Table Games BJ Tourney

My host in Dubuque, IA put me in a free tourney for tonight. I know how to play BJ but have never been in a BJ tournament. Can someone let me know the difference in style of play or a strategy that works well for this kind of play? Thanks in advance!

 

Throw the book out the window when you're playing in a tourney.

Do some crazy things anytime you feel you need to get more chips on the table - split 10s, double hard bust hands..etc.

Counting your opponents chips with some degree of accuracy is crucial.

Most importantly, have fun!

 

I play fast and aggressive...either bust out early, or go deep. Sadly, I've only made it to semi final rounds...lol. it's elimination, so you need to have more chips than other players on your table for each round. Trackong chip stacks and the fonal bet for each round is crucial.

Keep track of everybody's chips as accurate as you can be because you want to be in 1st during the last few hands. That'll make people play more erradic than they're use to playing, and that favors you.
I've done 2 of these BJ tourneys, and my suggestion is to truly feel out when you think you're going to get that 20 or 21 dealt to you, and up your bet...
Let's say everyone starts off with 1000 in chips, and you're betting 50-150 each hand, then this "I can feel it!" hand, bet 250-400. That will likely get you out in the lead, but bet according to your stacks against theirs at the time of that gut feeling.
Counting cards/seeing the previous hand have a big lack of 10s/Aces can be a great sign that it may be "that breakaway hand" where you go for the lead.

if your playing on the far end bet small when they bet big and take a hit on 20 with teh dealer showing a 6. They do these up north from me at a card house. They're a lot of fun if you can handle the inevitable loss.

 

Try to get a seat at third base.

Be ready for absolute bedlam towards the end of each session. You'll see plays like doubling on hard 18, and all kinds of crazy stuff. Remember you are playing against the other players as well as the house.

These tourneys can be fun, but they are mondo frustrating.

Thanks for the help guys. The seats were assigned so I was at 1st base. Long story short, I was up over a thousand chips with 2 hands to go. I played very conservative the last two hands (lost both with a $50 bet). Everyone went all in both hands, 3rd base won both of his. He won.

Last few hands are often the only time to bet BIG. Betting big early in session may result in you no longer playing at all.
