Walking from Shuttle Drop off to the Flamingo After Dark?

I've been to Vegas before and always wanted to try the Flamingo. Perhaps my timing was off for my first solo trip with all this construction going on

The shuttle pass is a prepaid part of my holiday package.

As a female, traveling alone, who's plane wont land until after dark, I am concerned about the walk from where the shuttle will drop me off, to the reception desk.

The length is relatively short and I am not worried about that, but I am concerned about adequate lighting?, security people? and/or the presence of undesirables that may be lurking around Bills?

Can anyone offer me any advice , or encouragement about this situation?

I personally have never done the shuttle drop off.

But we were at the flamingo in August and we parked in the self park Parkade.

I imagine the shuttle could drop you off somewhere near there.

It didn't feel sketchy at all and I would be fine with it.

 

Ask the shuttle driver to drop you off at Flamingo on the Strip. There is a place in front of Flamingo (near Margaritavillie) that has bus, cab, and shuttle drop offs. You can then just walk into the Hotel. There will be plenty of lighting like always on the Strip. If it's any of the regular airport shuttle services, they will drop you off at the side Flamingo entrance right outside the front desk area. It's well lit and there will be a doorkeeper and bell staff on duty 24/7. Very safe day or night. Hotel desk will be inside, up the stairs/escalator to the left.

... however it says right on my transfer that due to the construction happening around the Flamingo that shuttle passengers have a ten minute walk( does not appear that long, maybe 5 mins) from the drop off spot in the lot across the road from Baristas restaurant on Audrie Street.

It looks like I could duck in through the parking area when I use google street view but if there is construction around there perhaps it is blocked off?

Hopefully, since it will be dark they take pity on me and drop me closer to an entrance, any entrance! I don't care if I have to lug my suitcase through the resort, just would rather not do it outside along a sketchy area!

I took a shuttle last month when I stayed at Harrahs. The Flamingo drop off was right before ours and they dropped them off in a n area across the street behind the hotel. Then, the people had to walk across the busy street behind the strip with their luggage. I remember thinking how sketchy it seemed to be dropped off by a chain link fence in a construction zone. This was during the day. It did seem like it would have been a long walk too, especially with luggage.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't see any strange characters or anyone that might be lurking trying to rob people or anything. It's just not the way I'd want to begin my vacation. I would definitely pay to take a cab in this situation.

While you're there you can ask where the shuttle picks up and check it out. If you feel comfortable with it you can always take the shuttle back to the airport.

Or, you could have the shuttle drop you at one of the other hotels and take a shorter, cheaper cab ride to the Flamingo.

 

Thanks Skylar. That helped me formulate a plan. If no other people are getting off at the Flamingo shuttle stop, I will carry on to another property and cab it back...or even walk if it's along the strip.. it's the side street I don't want to hoof alone in the dark

 

We were there last month. Used Delta out of MSP, We called the shuttle number we were given before at the airport. They picked us up. Took us to an area close to Flamingo and we had a very short wait for the next shuttle. We felt it was safe. Were then deposited at the Flamingo. Same process for the return trip.

 

Any idea when the shuttles will be back to using the old entrance or any new entrance to replace it?

I Wont be there till late january hopefully things will be better by then

If not will it be better to get dropped off at Bally's, Ceasars or Quad ?

 

We walked from the Mirage to Flamingo with luggage 2 years ago. 10 - 15 might walk on the strip. Not a bad experience at all!

 

Excellent! My friends will be staying at the Mirage while I'm down in Vegas. So i'm assuming that's a 20-25 minute stumble from the Flamingo

On a more serious note.. does anyone know how long the construction will be going on for?? I was kinda bummed out after I booked the trip and found out that the Flamingo will be doing some construction.

 

If they are dropping you off at Ballys shuttle drop off (that would be my guess if it is across the street from Batistas - unless they mean in the alley? then just cross the street at the walk & you will basically only need to walk around the front of Bills vs. going down an alley.

Otherwise ask to be dropped off at Harrahs - this will be in the back area. Once you have gone inside you can either go straight thru to the front and walk a short distance down the strip to Flamingo, or cut across the back monorail access walkway & thru the Quad & out the front to avoid crowds at Carnaval Court. Or ask for Quad and cut thru to the front and down the strip. (Quad is closest & Harrahs only slightly further). There will be signage to get you to the strip.

Not sure exactly what they are doing right now. A few months ago they were working on the drive and had overflow construction from Bills - may still be that.

Also doubt you would get dropped at the front right now. There are no bus stops out front with the Linq construction.

 

There are definitely homeless people and bums all over that area especially after you go up the escalator to cross over the street between Ballys and Bills. I wouldn't want to walk alone in that area either. I would just take the shuttle to another casino like they said and walk on the strip. You will be fine on the strip alone. I wouldn't want to be on a side street or even behind the casinos alone though.

 

Like i said before, have the shuttle drop you off on the Strip in front of Flamingo/Margaritaville. I am looking at the Linq live cam now and there's a place for the driver to pull over (where the Linq construction is in front of the driveway next to Margaritaville). It will be after dark, and you are a female carrying luggage alone. There's no need to carry luggage up and down elevators/escalators when you don't have to. The safest and easiest spot to go into Flamingo is on the Strip where there are many more people, even late at night, than a place off Strip.

 

You can get dropped off at Paris or Harrah's and then take the monorail.

 

You could call Flamingo and ask them exactly where the stop is and if they have any suggestions.

If no one is getting off with you, ask the driver to drop you closer and explain why. A nice smile and $5 or so would be worth it. If you are travelling light it will be easier for the driver to justify this.
