I looked at map and it seems to be a mile or so to walk from downtown to CC? Is it a safe walk during the day as far as sidewalks and neighborhood? this would be for a good sized man

Safe? Sure. But it's a bit of a haul... looks more like 2+ (maybe even close to 3 by the time it's said and done)

Just used maps.google.com and it says 2.8 miles.

    Would I walk it?

Depends on what I was wearing and what I was going to do when I got there. If going to convention, you will get a few miles walking once you are there. If warm out, I would be sweating.. not fun. With that being said, it is not unusual for me and the mrs. to walk 5 miles a day in Vegas.... but we usually hit a few bars along the way.

I did some more checking and it looks like it's more like three miles and goes through some rough areas. Probably best to take cab or bus or drive. We have a car but prefer to park it so we don't have to worry about drinking and driving.
    thanks

If you are worried about drinking and/or parking, then the bus is a solid option. The SDX will pick you up at the corner of Fremont @ Casino Center (right by the Binion's Three Card Poker table) and take you very close to the Convention Center (the stop is called "Convention Center").

It's a long walk, whether it's safe depends on how tough you are.

Not a safe walk. Friend of mine is a metro cop and they don't even go to calls in that area alone

Three miles doesn't look like much on paper or a computer screen but I never saw miles as long as in Las Vegas when you are walking! You can take the SDX or I believe the 108. If you want to walk, take the Deuce to Circus Circus or Guardian Angel Cathredral stop and walk Convention Center Drive; it takes about 15 minutes....all safe.
