Is there anywhere to get an advanced craps lesson, with an opportunity to practice rolling the dice? I understand the basics, but am a terrible roller and would like an opportunity to practice and get a few tips also. I'm heading out in early November.

    Thanks!

When mentioning "dice tossing" are you referring to dice control (dice influencing)?

If so, you won't find this on the strip. There are a few "dice influencing" clubs and one resides in Vegas.

Their lessons will be a few hundred dollars.

Not that I am aware of. Everyone would want to roll the dice for free if the casinos offered that kind of lesson. It's not that hard, but if you insist on practice, just find yourself a five dollar table during a slow time and start shooting

I presume you just want to practice so that you can avoid embarrassing throws off the table or into the dealer/boxman stacks.

Why not practice at home before you go? Get a pair of dice, set a cardboard backdrop about 8 to 10 ft. away and practice away!

I took craps lessons at NYNY about 10 years ago and looked into again for my next trip - looks like several casinos still offer them. Back then it covered the basics and you did get to throw the dice just as if you were actually playing, I would assume it it still the same.

I found this list of free gaming lessons but you might want to also check with the hotel because it states that the Monte Carlo offers lessons on Fri and Sat but the MC website says they are offered 7 days a week.

Formal lessons can be as early as 11:00am.
Tuscany lessons are (or at least were at one time) whenever the table is empty and the dealer is simply standing there.

Try getting to a casino really early in the day. 8 or 9 am. If no one else is at the table rules can be relaxed a bit.

Lots of empty tables in the morning, especially weekdays. Perfect for newbies.

Actually, rolling the dice is pretty straightforward. There isn't really such thing as a "terrible" roller. Every shooter has, at one time or another, thrown dice off of the table and level of experience has little to do with it.

In fact, the casino wants the dice to fly about hither and yon in order to insure that the rolls are random. It's the reason that the tables have that rubber pyramid lining around the edge of the table -to insure a random roll.

That being said, the only real "rule" is that the dice have to be in sight of the stickman at all times, so you have to pick op the dice with one hand. No rubbing them together before you shoot.

The best way to keep them on the table is to throw them either straight out or underhanded - no overhanded "baseball" type throws. I always repeat the advice I heard years ago to "throw the dice like you're throwing a drink in someone's face." That generally works pretty well.

You'll still throw one off the table every now and again, but don't worry. they've got plenty more in that little bowl in front of the stickman and they'll promptly let you pick out two more and roll again.

I did see a shooter throw all five dice off the table one time, but you have to really be trying for this to happen.
