    Stardust
    Westward Ho
    Frontier
    Dunes
Barbary Coast (before Harrah's screwed it up)
Imperial Palace ((before Harrah's screwed it up)
Las Vegas Club (before they screwed themselves up)
Horseshoe (before being taken over by Binion's)
Binion's (before they screwed themselves up)
Plaza (before they screwed themselves up)

Okay, a few of these are still "open" in that they still have the same name, but in no way resemble what they used to be. Can't type anymore – I'm getting too sad!

Obviously the Stardust and I would add Desert Inn and Sands for their storied history. The Dunes, but only as it was in it's glory days. The last years of its life, they let it go to hell in a handbasket.

Downtown..... Binion's. Yeah, I know it's still standing, but sadly a mere shell of what it once was.

Bills. It will never be the same in my opinion when they reopen it. Rooms will not be cheap either like they used to be.

The place that used to be just across the street from the original MGM. Not Barbary Coast. Was it The Mint? Or was that on Fremont?

Can't remember the name but it was a primo hunting ground for hookers. The bar at any time would have 5 or 6 sitting there and they were all honeys.

Was it Bourbon Street by any chance? It was right to the east of Barbary Coast on Flamingo and closed in 2006. The original MGM became Bally's. The Mint used to be connected to Binion's downtown.

Bill's by far. Sands and Desert Inn died to give us our two favorite places, so their deaths were not in vain.

Me too. I miss all of the above and wished I visited the Stardust and Frontier before they were gone.

Just before it closed, I played blackjack with the most intimidating dealer in Las Vegas history at The Frontier. He was huge, with huge hands. His name tag identified him as being from Bulgaria. If you made a bad play, he would look at you and say, in a thick accent "You make bad play". He said it in a deep guttural voice, making you almost believe you would be taken to an underground chamber and tortured if your bad play continued.

As soon as he went on break, my tablemates and I dubbed him "Lurch".

When he came back from break, you could feel everyone sitting up straighter and paying more attention.

    Maxim Hotel[edit]

The property was originally opened on July 1, 1977 as the Maxim Hotel and Casino. Though smaller than typical Vegas resorts even before today's megaresort era, the Maxim had a popular following because of its attention to personal service. It thrived during the 1980s, but went into decline as flashier, larger resorts opened on the nearby Strip.

In 1999, the casino was closed in a dispute between the casino operator and hotel owners. The hotel itself remained open without gaming, until closing entirely in 2001.

The Maxim was the site of the infamous shooting death of rapper Tupac Shakur in 1996. Shakur was a passenger in a BMW that was driving in front of the casino, when a man in a Cadillac pulled up and opened fire, gravely wounding the rap star. He died a week later from his injuries.[3]
