Here in Canada when we did new bills two years ago at my local casino it took about a week before the TITO machines were converted to accept and break the bills down and then another week before some of the machines were converted to accept the new bills (slots in the high limit room, nickle video and dollar three reel slots on the casino floor) and then about another month before all the machines on the floor were converted.

Even years later some of the machine still have problems with the new bills where you just have to keep trying over and over again to get the machine to accept the new bills. At my local grocery store it took about a year and a half before their machines regularly accepted the new bills - for a while you had to pull them tight width-wise while feeding them in to the machine so it could read them.

We've been updating money counters for the new bill for the past couple of months. We have some cash acceptors that aren't programmed yet to take them. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a delay of a week or 2 before they work in the machines in Vegas... but I also wouldn't be surprised if they had already been setup.

I hope they work in all the machines by the time I go. Would like to bring more of them home than I take.....as if that ever happens. :Þ

Many of the old school 3 reel slots, like Double Diamond Deluxe, Haywire, Red White and Blue 7's, etc; don't take the newer $5 bills. Usually this is in the quarter denominations. We'll see if they take these new hundo's or not!

    Let ya'll know in 3 weeks. :wink2:

It's true, you do learn something new every day.
    From the article:

"The $100 bill is actually the second most common bill in circulation, behind only the $1 bill. It's actually slightly more common than the $20 bill. "

Interesting. Now, how can I structure a bar bet, to make money from my new found knowledge! lol

You have to think the reason is drug related, wouldn't you?

not just drugs, but anybody who wants to hold cash long term uses $100s. if they had $500s or $1000s still, people would use those, but they don't. so you're stuck with $100s. as it says later in the article, most of the cash in circulation is held outside the US by foreign governments and wealthy individuals.

That sparked a memory! I had a wealthy uncle and he used to have $1,000 bills in his pocket. Probably 50 years ago since I saw one.

Right, virtually all cash transfers to foreign institutions is done in $100s. There are literally cargo containers of $100s being shipped around daily.

As far as the bill acceptors I think it would be odd if they weren't set to accept these right away. This bill has been planned for years and I remember the last time when they made the big update to all the denominations I read an article explaining how the Treasury released some sort of signature codes (called billsets) prior to their release that was supposed to be installed into the firmware of bill acceptors. That was of course a much bigger deal because they were rolling out changes for all denominations.

I've always liked the look of Canadian Currency. Great design.
Didn't you guys just have bills made with a plastic see-thru
window in it? If so, I heard it would melt if it got too hot. Is that true?

yep the new bills have plastic and I think it's dumb and nobody I talked to up there liked it either. It feels weird and doesn't fold up in your pocket as nicely as the paper. not sure about melting though, but I can only imagine it would.

I'm Canadian. Our new plastic bills will melt with fire put to them yes, but you can't rip them, cut them (easily), tear them, basically unless you throw them into a fire or put a lighter to them they will be ok.

Oh yea, going through the laundry machines won't hurt them either! :p

These things are virtually indestructible. They are also very slippery and sometimes you have two stuck together and don't realize it because they continue to have that new bill feel and look.

I have a couple stashed n my wallet for emergency use only that have creased and it is very difficult to straighten them out so I literally have to iron them to get them to lay flat.

Had an interesting convo with my banker today. She mentioned that there's a lot of people pre-ordering the new $100 bills because the people are looking for bills with unique serial numbers. Never knew a $100 bill with a unique serial number can be sold for 5 figures... Maybe I should pre-order a few K's myself!

I went to my local bank to try to get a brick, but the teller said they didn't get any yet. I wanted to see if the new bills would be my lucky money...lol.
