Is anyone familiar with a rental car company who rents to persons using a debit card (with a minimum amount of hassle) or cash for rental?

The money is there we just don't use or have credit cards.

I see several companies who take debit cards but there seems to be a lot of additional confusion surrounding these transactions.

I swear that I've previously used the Visa branded debit card at Dollar with little formality.

I know some of them have a sign posted saying you can use them as long as you can show them a return air reservation.

I think you can but they will authorize the total amount of the rental PLUS a per day deposit on top of that. Kind of like a hotel. If you choose to do this, just keep in mind that it will tie up your funds for quite a while. I've never known a car rental agency to rent totally with cash. You could pay the rental portion with cash but they still want a card for a deposit. In case something happens with the car.

I rent on a regular basis for work, as in 20-24 times a year. It totally depends on the company and the location. Don't ask here on the forum, call the company you intend to rent from in Las Vegas and ask for a manager and get the details. Some will be no hassle, some will be big hassle (for example, Enterprise in little ole Grand Junction will allow you to use a debit card but you have to bring them a copy of a utility bill, go figure) and some will flat out NOT allow it. Call them directly, BYPASS the clerk, and talk to a manager and GET their name. Just my two cents worth.

Good advice. Flying to Vegas Monday for two weeks and thought we might rent a car and drive down to Laughlin a few days.

I like Laughlin, totally different vibe, very laid back. Plus if you have a car, it should be pretty good weather time to hike Red Rock Canyon or Valley of Fire. Just depends on what you like to do but I love getting off strip and finding fun places to go. If you are into Vegas History, I highly recommend the Neon Museum, Neon Boneyard tour, http://www.neonmuseum.org/ You will even be there for their special Boneyard Bash. :D

Sounds good. I am a little worried about being there for so long. Even I can get tired of the casino after a long period of time. I have never been to any areas that were not on the strip or downtown. With this much time I can look into other things. Of course most of my time will be at Pai Gow as usual. They got rid of the table here locally at Horseshoe so I have to get my Pai Gow fix in Vegas.

A friend used a debit card with Alamo and unless their policies have changed in the last few years it should still be painless.
    Even used the self-service kiosk.

Don't plan on going to Red Rock while the government is shut down. The entrance gate is locked for now and you won't be able to see much until Congress gets it act together.
