I have been saying this for years, the clubs are HUGE revenue for resorts, and are becoming as important as gaming to bottom lines.

My host at Wynn told me that, prior to the opening of Hackensack at MGM, XS (or whatever Wynncore’s big one is) would bring in more revenue than the casino on good weekends.

Gawker did a piece pulling some of their favorite quotes from the article:

    http://gawker.com/the-10-most-depressing-parts-of-the-new-yorkers-e-d-m-1379714380

I just skimmed both pieces and will read them later, but first thing I notice is everyone involved seems to be disputing other people's figures. Wynn management disputes the figures the club owners and promoters are stating, the CEO of the clubs is disputing the figures the DJ's agents are stating, etc.

In Wynn's 10-K all the net revenue from their clubs is just wrapped into general FB&E corporate wide so its nearly impossible to split out what comes from where. Margins on the entire FB&E revenue are a lot lower than they are from gambling though. It's a big money maker for the hotels for sure but as the piece makes pretty clear with, not nearly as lucrative as the club promoters and owners like to claim.

As far as I can tell, there really aren't any published figures on what these clubs contribute on a net basis, only top line revenue.

Most of the clubs are doing 30-40 million in alcohol sales and the top ones up to 70 million. Marquee was the highest last year. That's just alcohol. Now add in entry, tips, cash. There is a number ppl put out there and there is a reality number. I cansay that number varies 25% or more.

It still amazes me that people are paying that kind of money for a bottle of liquor.....sheez, that is almost as dumb as gambling:poke::evillaugh

Although, at least w/ gambling you have the opportunity to break even or win but hey, everybody is entertained in different ways that's for sure and Las Vegas proves it every day.

What does surprise me is since it's mostly the EDM crowd, is they haven't (that I've read) had any MDMA (or any of the copy cat drugs) deaths in these clubs like they have at the fesitvals. Or maybe they just keep it very hush hush?

These high end vegas clubs have a slightly older demographic then the kids at these festivals who are ODing. I've been around the EDM scene a lot and I've been to many music festivals. Too many. The kids are younger, that's where the issue is, IMHO. However, don't kid yourself. every one of these big vegas clubs has these drug problems. As other have stated, it just kept under the radar.

the festivals have a lot if teenagers too is they are a younger crowd like a high school and college crowd. but the clubs are young too, like max wrote it is slightly older. i would say at hakassan it was mostly around my age (25-26) and younger. i saw some creepy older guys like the old guy that hangs around your frat house in college and a couple of older looking groups at tables but mostly the same scene as the festivals just not teenagers since it is 21 and over. :peace:

Yea, you gotta figure it's Vegas so if anybody is going to do drugs anyway, they're certainly going to do them in Vegas. I was the same way 35 yrs ago which I'm not overly proud to say....it scares the shit out of me now to think about taking something that who knows who mixed up and you have no idea what's in it or what it's been cut with.

There is absolutely nothing as fun and carefree as your youth but it's a double edged sword....you live on the edge and nothing scares you. The other side is if you're wild....you need a little luck to live through it.

I'm in my mid 30s and still attend these festivals with friends in our 30s. Yes there is drug use in the EDM scene and I'm sure in the Vegas clubs as well.
You can see coke use in the bathrooms and even at the tables at these Vegas clubs... and many other clubs all over the country.

The difference between music festivals vs clubs is that festivals are usually 9-11 hrs long. There are many factors such as dehydration and just over consuming the amt of MDMA in a long period of time. At a club, at most its open for 6hrs and the peak of the night is usually at the 4hr, so the chances of someone overdoing it isnt as much as at a festival.

Hydration is key at a festival and while they provide free water, its usually only at 1-2 places in a huge event or youre buying them at $6 each, which can go quick and expensive on a long night. Clubs are a totally different scenario.

You'll probably see more people experiencing alcohol poisoning at a Vegas club vs drug overdose.

yea, I think you're spot on...we were in Vegas last year when the Elec Daisy Fest was going on and I saw some kids out at the pool one morning that cleary hadn't been to bed and they were all painted up and they didn't act like any of the night club crowd you see in the AM. They were spaceddddddd out.....but kind of fun to watch:evillaugh

Club Rio was the first nightclub in a casino and did huge numbers. I worked at The Beach, then went to Club Rio and it was crazy busy. Places like Pure, Studio 54 and Rain made a killing in the early to mid 2000's. People talk about the amount of money clubs make and employees, and I can tell you that they report only credit card alcohol sales. A lot of the cash to enter and special event sales aren't even calculated. You see Marquee with I think 70million in alcohol sales last year, think about how many people paid entry. The numbers are mindblowing. The reason why the big management companies are doing so well with clubs and choking the little guy is huge investors and tons of marketing.

As a resident of Nevada I encourage everyone to visit our clubs and spend foolishly. After all, what's a few hundred for a bottle of liquor while someone plays records?

You just have to wonder if this crazy 5 digit bottle service is going the way of the housing bust. It just smells like a bubble that can't possibly keep getting bigger. Some will say that's not possible but as I recall there were a few thousand that said that about housing too. Time will tell....

EDM scene is actually pretty calm for the amount of people that attend. 100,000 people each night for 3 days straight, 12hours of dancing and music. No Deaths or anything major at EDC this year. Try those numbers at a rap/hip hop event, and I guarantee that the results wont be the same. Electric Music fans are pretty calm, chill and in it for the music. You're rarely going to see hundreds of drunken fans all rowdy and causing havoc after the events. LOL.

The only way that the bottle service bust will happen is if the clubbing industry flops as well. Right now the big draws to these big clubs are the top DJs, specifically EDM genre. If that hype slows down, it'll take the numbers away from the clubs as well. Less people, they cant pay the big money DJs to come. Clubs will downsize and get smaller and will end up catering to a dedicated group who still enjoy the club scene. Prices may come down then to fill up the tables each night.

Also, as far as music goes, Vegas is the new Ibiza. Ibiza was the center of the EDM scene for so long since most of the top DJs played there. Now they are all over Vegas. Socal and everywhere else, with Vegas being the "new" capital of the EDM scene. So they say.

So right now, the party scene is in Vegas and that brings the crowds and bottle poppers into town.

Things will evolve in a few years. I dont think its predictable right now as there are other factors like I said about where this music growth will end up in the next few years. It could be a huge thing and will keep on going for many more years. It seems that way.. and it may end up like how Rap started 30years ago when it was still new and not mainstream. The Electronic music scene has been around but is just starting to be embraced by mainstream so it could last many more years in Vegas.

At the same time, theres always some new gimmick that can pop up in Vegas. We never know.
