Recently, I changed healthcare providers and had to pick a new general doctor and dentist. I went with females in both cases on the theory that I would have a better chance of getting someone with small fingers to be stuck into uncomfortably tight orifices. :wink2:

Anyway, it got me to thinking about whether I have any gender biases about gambling, and also whether the casinos seem to have gender preferences for their employees in positions that would seem to be gender-neutral.

Clearly, women are more likely to get jobs staffing VIP check-in desks or handling seating at restaurants. Being young and pretty is the norm there.

Slot attendants also seem to be mostly women. But the gender breakdown at players club desks and cashier cages seems about even to me.

For casino hosts, I prefer women. The female hosts seem to respond more quickly to emails and do a better job of keeping me informed about the status of reservation requests. That said, both of my current hosts in Las Vegas are men ...

As someone who primarily sticks to slots, I don't pay close attention to the tables. But it seems to me that tables with female dealers tend to be more full, even if you exclude scantily clad dealers such as the Pussycat Dolls blackjack dealers at Caesars. Certainly, the major poker tournaments seem mostly to have women dealing the cards on the TV tables, though that may be an effort to slightly offset the fact that almost all the players are male.

Most celebrity chefs are men. (With Paula Dean's troubles, that gender inequity is probably even larger now.)

    Thoughts anyone?

(I hope I haven't just opened a new thread for hooker stories!)

Gender: does not matter as long as they are friendly. I hate robot dealers.

I have had very good and fun male dealers - and horrible female dealers. But nothing is better than a pretty female dealer who is also both friendly and skilled.

I must disagree. I've found men hosts to be much more reliable and quality. the women are either a) the bottom of the totem pole or b) so worried about being the bottom of the totem pole because it's such a male dominated field that they're total bitches to everyone. I do have one female host and she's absolutely the bottom of the totem pole. she's great in terms of attention and reliability as I'm by far her biggest player, but when I actually need to get something done, I call her boss.

in terms of dealers I've had great dealers from both sexes. and terrible dealers from both sexes. my 2 all time favorite dealers are 1 male and 1 female.

as I said, I find the female hosts to be more responsive to my standard requests, but I see your point about most of them being in lower-ranking positions with less leeway to handle special requests. still, one of my first Vegas hosts was a woman who overcomped us when she switched casinos and tried to lure us to come along. (she didn't last long at the new place.)

regarding dealers for table games, anyone know the actual ratio of women to men? I did a quick Google search but couldn't find a statistical breakdown.

according to my very unscientific observations, I'd say it's close to even. it doesn't seem to be dominated by either sex.

No preference for male or female except that I am sexist enough to prefer female drink servers. I prefer friendly dealers and generous shot pourers of either sex.

Male-Female..if they are paying me out I could care less. Hell they could even be transgender.. As long as they are nice, on the ball, and like I said paying me it's all good.

No preference on the dealer's gender. I like an efficient dealer, who manages to be friendly while getting the job done. I don't like overly friendly dealers who delay the game to tell you some story about their family, co-workers or the miserable customer who wouldn't tip them.

    This.

Other than the party pits, I'm never looking at a dealer to decide whether to sit down or not.

It does generally end up that I'm on a table longer if the dealer is older. I'm not saying they have to be 60+. It is just that the dealers that are dealing as quickly as humanly possible are not what I'm looking for. These are also the dealers that are young and just got out of their dealing classes.

Sometimes a young dealer can be helpful in ways that wouldn't happen with an older dealer. Otherwise, older is usually better, except for the old woman in Deadwood who kept beating me with funny sounding hits.

Gender is no difference for me. Much more important if they have a smile and laugh at my witty comments! :D

I am just the opposite. I hate slow dealers. Was at Caesar's last week and started at a table with a nice young dealer who seemed very good. Turned out she was just the break dealer so pretty soon the primary dealer at that table return and is was an asian woman who had to be over 80. Took her forever to deal a hand. Told myself to get up immediately but decided to be polite and wait until the end of the shoe to move. Bad decision - cost me a couple hundred dollars in addition to alot of aggravation.

I do enjoy playing with competent, fun, and personable dealers of the opposite sex, and it's a plus if they are attractive as well.

I do scope out the tables and if there are dealers (of both genders) that I've known to be surly, indifferent, or rude I won't play that table, no matter how attractive they may be (the females, that is, lol!).

I'm looking for positive, fun experiences, and won't waste my Vegas vacation on dealers that seem to not want to be there. It's harder when playing craps because sometimes there are only 1 or 2 tables and you can have a fun crew except for 1 sourpuss.:thumbsup:

More interested in results than gender whether it be a host or dealer.

I've found good success with the sexy blackjack dealers at Planet Hollywood after 8PM. Always have been personable, fast and competent, (and good looking). Look for the small 4-table pit near the high limit and casino cage. Usually $25, one 2-deck table and three 8-deck shoes.
