I've been itching to book a November or December solo trip but I've been waiting for Southwest's fares to come down a bit. So when I saw RT fare in the $170 range (from Denver) I jumped. Booked a quick trip for November 4-6, staying at the Gold Coast since that's the only comp rooms that I have.

Soooo... Woohoo, I have me a countdown!! :)

Now I just have to play the rental car game, waiting for THOSE rates to come down.

WooHoo!!!! We are there at the same time. Yeah we've been waiting months for the car rental rates to go down. With the Sema Show, they may not move down much.

    Good job on the airfare.
I guess/hope I got real lucky and booked a rental from payless for Nov 9th - 14th for $156.00 for a standard car. Since I booked I have not seen anything under $200.

Never rented from payless before so the hope is they are ok.

Well done! I have no idea what fares are usually like from Denver, but $170 RT sounds incredibly cheap. I would think I hit the airfare lottery if I could find $170 for one way from my neck of the woods.

I love November trips (I dig Vegas November weather) and I love solo trips. I’m in the “waiting to see if fares come down” stage right now myself.

Seems like not so long ago, you could rather easily find RT airfare DEN-LV in the $120-$150 range. It's a relatively short trip (about 1 1/2 hours in the air). The best fare I ever scored was $88 RT, when Southwest first started flying that route.

The rental car price game is crazy. I usually find the best rates somewhere between 3 and 6 weeks out, checking every single day and booking/rebooking frequently. Once in a while the prices drop right before the start of the trip. I haven't even booked a tentative car rental yet because the prices are ridiculously high. Gotta go check those prices right now. ;)

Hi BigDogmom, it's good to see you're hitting our town solo this winter! I did my first solo in July this year for two nights at the Fabulous Flamingo. I had a great time, doing anything I wanted, eating anything I wanted, and most important.....gambling anytime I wanted. Good luck & have a blast!

Btw, hope that big storm didn't affect you too much. My brother in Longmont got hit pretty bad.

Hi Sam! Sorry to hear that your brother got hit. I live in Aurora, which got some flooding/damage last weekend, but my house stayed dry. The creekbed 1/2 block away flooded over, though, and caused a concrete retaining wall at a nearby condo complex to tumble down.

I love my solo trips! Besides being able to do whatever I want, sometimes I just like to sit in my room, enjoy some peace and quiet, and read a good book.

And I ended up rebooking my flights - I checked prices on Frontier and the same days, similar flight times, saved me $30, so $139 RT fare!! I'll have a Southwest credit, but I can definitely use it up, either to go to Vegas again or maybe Florida.

I had something similar happen to me. Last week I got a mailer from 4 Queens for 3 free weekend nights, breakfasts, and a slot tourney from Fri 11/15 leaving Mon 11/18. Checked SW and while the flights weren't as cheap as I would have liked I had enough points for a free RT trip. Cheap solo impulse trip booked!

I've also never been to Vegas in November but I've been the last 2 Decembers so I imagine the weather will be similar (pleasantly cool).

For anyone also going to Vegas that weekend just keep in mind that the Marathon is that Sunday (11/17) and that makes traveling to/from anywhere difficult. I plan on watching football DT all day so it shouldn't be a problem for me.

    Again, can't wait!

    Chris

That's a great fare from Frontier way to go! I know what you mean about quiet time, I got bored gambling at one point, so I went to the room ordered a pizza and crashed till about 4am then my gambling juices were back so I went down to the casino and played VP til 10 then breakfast. Crazy huh but that's the beauty of going solo have a super trip!

I am happy for you. I have been looking at airfares and no such luck from Milwaukee to Vegas. SO I guess I will have to safe my money until next May and hope the rates get better. I so want to be there now. :grrr:
