I used a host for the first time on my last trip to Bellagio. In my thread after Memorial Day I explained that I was offered an upfront comp of RFB 350/day for 3 nights and limo transport. Basically, my host was not wiping off the charges as the trip progressed and said he couldn't comp anymore. Some story about how I wasn't playing enough to justify the comps, then used a number he expected, which I was exceeding. Anyway, I let him know my displeasure in a professional way.

I tried contacting another host at the B and let him know that I was wanting to use another host. I have not received a response, so I am thinking about trying out Aria this trip. I averaged $500/hand BJ for 12 hours over the 3 days. That is probably on the higher side of my average play. I am probably more of a $350-400 hand player over the long haul.

A referral of straight-shooting, HONEST host would be appreciated. My MLIFE offers are okay, but I feel I can get much more upfront from a host than the corporate offer.

I've had good experience with my host there and I referred her to a couple people here who have also said good things about her. I wouldn't want to pass along my name but if you're happy with just her contact details I can PM them.

Does that guy have a brother or something named Eric who works as a host at Bellagio? I met him earlier this year, same last name so kind of odd.

I am not trying to be a jerk, but you were way over comped at B.

    Lets do a little math.

    500/hand x 80 hands/hr x 12/hrs = $480,000 bet.

Lets say you play pretty good BJ and you lose at about .5%.

That means an expected loss of $2400.

Expected comps should be $960 (on the high end).

I am sure you can do the simple addition to figure out how you were getting over comped.

Kicken, just pm me. Don't need to use your name. Just need a contact of someone who is easy to work with and handles a lot of players at my betting level.

those numbers are low. $500 avg bet for 4 hours a day is pretty much exactly what they look for to get a basic suite at RFB 350. the theo on that is going to be closer to $3k.

I never ask for a suite. I was just in a standard lakeview room. I only spent about $650 on food over the three days and my host took $350 of my express comps. Anyway, I just want to have a straightforward offer with everything spelled out - no surprises. If host says, I need X amount of play, I would know what I was stepping into. Like most people, I prefer a guarantee upfront. If I don't meet that play standard, then I wouldn't expect future offers. I only need about $200/day in food and a basic room. I would think my play justifies that at any vegas property.

Shifter, you nailed it. My prior host sent me an email upon request and said the theo was $3000, with 40% available for comps. On my prior trip, without a host, I lost $13000 and this host contacted me after the trip. I didn't redeem a single comp on that prior trip, so I should have had a "bank" of comps in the system, but a new host may not be able to use those. All water under the bridge now. I have an offer from my host in tunica to take a private charter with the general manager of mid south properties to Atlantic city, but I would rather go to vegas. But I was honored by the offer. It was the typical junket offer. What I find interesting is I have never been asked to take this trip, but after two big losing trips, BINGO, I am invited. Casinos love losers.

Things are changing and become more advanced quickly.

Was he playing in full games or by himself?

What game was he playing in, if he was playing in the .28% house advantage game they run then he was probably getting a lower expected loss versus the better house games.

On top of all of that Hosts are no longer relationship managers they are sales people. Yes they can get anything done by asking their boss but the days of discretionary decisions are long gone. The computer spits out the decisions on what can and can't be done.

The Host may have handled the situation poorly, but he probably had very little say in the matter.

Well, to enforce my belief that the host was being a d***, the front desk clerk took off my $250 dinner at prime the night before that my host was unwilling to take off. When I asked the clerk about having someone look at getting that charge removed, she looked at the computer for a few seconds and said, "oh, no problem, I just took care of it." I truly believe the host was ticked that I won a fair amount of money on my first trip with him. I actually overplayed my previous trip by $150/hand, which is what he made his upfront offer from. I do play a low edge bj game, but I always have. I have been gambling for almost 20 years and have always traveled under corporate offers and rarely pay out of pocket. I feel like I understand the comp system pretty well. However, this was my first time using a vegas host. I don't expect to be over comped, just fairly comped.

this is not entirely true. yes, things have changed and hosts have less discretion than they used to. the host on duty is certainly just a button pusher. but a good personal host is still a relationship manager. he's more limited in what he can do than the "good ol' days", but he does have discretion. the bosses give them parameters on what they can do, but they can do more or less in that range based on what they want. obviously they don't give everyone as much as they possibly can because the less they give you, the better their numbers are. but if you have a good relationship and are a good player, hosts are invaluable in getting things done and pulling strings to do things every once in a while that you really don't deserve.

    Shifter has it right!!
Prior to my recent 5 days at Aria I was concerned about getting a one bedroom in the SkySuites.
On arrival I checked into a penthouse suite in the SkySuite tower.
    Really nice surprise!!
That is normally way above what my play would allow but I have been a loyal player and he took care of me.
It was during the week and that made it easier but the hosts definitely have discretion.
There have been several other cases where he went above and beyond what I was expecting.

Ha! That's funny. Eric was very cool and invited my gf and I out with him and his colleagues to their table at Bank the night we met. We grew up near each other. I figured he looked like he was in his 30s, maybe late 20s. So his dad must be a pretty senior guy.

I don't know what you consider senior, but most of the bigger players in the casino business (or most businesses for that matter) are in their 50s+.

add 23 years or so to Eric's age. Most of the better hosts are older as they have more experience and are dialed in to their jobs. He has been doing this 20+ years.

Not to hijack this thread, but I have a question regarding something someone said earlier.

Does it matter if you're playing bj at a full table or solo? Obviously you are dealt more hands playing solo or with one other person. Do the casinos take this into consideration when determining theo? I feel like I read this somewhere on the forum but don't remember exactly. Thanks.
