What are any of your vegas secrets, interesting facts or things to stay away from that you've gained over the years of visiting?

One thing I've learned is to NOT walk to the sign no matter how close it looks :yuck:

    1. Always use the Kiosk at the Rental car facility...the counter people are inherently ignorant.
    2. Use the WAX bus to get downtown from Airport ($2!!)
    3. Get VegasValues/Vegas 24-7 magazines for the coupons
    4. Always be polite at hotel counter with $20 sandwich ready to go.
    5. Avoid eye contact with Porn Slappers/street salesmen

    My favorite tip:
If you only have carry-on luggage, print out your boarding pass before you get to the airport and have the taxi/limo drop you off at Level 0 at Terminal 1. The escalators will take you straight to the security area and you don't have to mess with the counter area. This is also true if you are flying United as the trams in Terminal 1 take you to the D Gates.

    1. If driving from LA first thing to do in Las Vegas is fill up the car and hide a 20 in the glove box so you can get home.

    2. In summer plan all outdoor activities for early morning or late night.

    3. Hydrate and moisturize, the dry desert air is brutal

    4. A quick stop at Walmart for drinks/snacks/water can save you hundreds of dollars over mini-bar costs (not the hyperbole that it sounds like)

    5. Pops Cheesesteak and Frankies Tiki Lounge are my recommendations for lesser traveled spots for food and drink respectively.

    6. If you're a fan of mid-century modern take a drive around the Scotch 80's/Rancho area and drive by the sight of one of Vegas' most famous deaths (the murder/death by bad girlfriend selection of Teddy Binion) at 2408 Palomino Lane off S Rancho Drive.

    7. Once a trip I take $200 in 20's, and 20 singles and go on a VP bartop crawl of Downtown. Personal rules of my crawl. 1 drink per bar area, 20 bucks in machine and get drink, 1 dollar tip min, 2 if top shelf/fancy cocktail offered. Cash out in multiples of 20 above 40 or at 0. Max 3 drinks per casino. Continue until all singles are gone (never happened yet) or all 20's gone (even more surprisingly has never happened) or bed calls. I do this on all my recent trips and it's usually my favorite night of the trip.

use the companion restrooms. They are usually one holers with all sorts of space and a locking door. like your own private toilet on the casino floor.

raiding the VIP lounge at Bellagio, unmarked door by Baccarat bar.

tip the attendant a $10 spot for snacks & top-shelf cocktails for a group of 3 or 4 and everyone is happy.

(you gotta act like you know what you are doing to avoid the "evil-eye" VIP check-in chicks though)

    1. If you get a rental car from the Rental Car Facility then stop at the Rebel gas station at the intersection of E. Warm Springs Rd and S. LV Blvd to grab a case of water and some bags of chips. It's on the way to the casinos on the Strip so it saves you some time instead of going to the Walmart on E. Tropicana.

    2. Sign up for the free rental car loyalty programs (ex. Hertz's Gold Plus Rewards program) so that you can go straight to your pre-assigned vehicle instead of waiting in line at the counter. If you get a lot of rental cars you can also earn some free rentals which can save you a lot of money (ex. renting a free SUV at Aspen or Denver during ski season).

This one is huge. Just look for your name on the board and get your car and go. The LAS rental center counter employees are horrible and the lines are forever to just go through 3 or 4 people.

    Excercise Walking Tip

    Heynow....

FWIW I like to walk at a steady clip for exercise but I am never up in time to do the Strip before it's either too hot or too crowded.

What I found was that walking in the convention center halls in the mega resorts is great, they are massive, air conditioned, safe, and as far as the Mirage is concerned very well appointed with antique Asian art, Caesars has some nice art also. If the convention center in one hotel is full just head next door.

Anyway......for me it beats dodging porn slappers and strollers, though dodging things does burn extra calories :peace:

:wave:Fremont VP crawl sounds fun. I'm going to do that, for sure.

My tips: Get hold of a rubber door wedge for extra security while you are sleeping.

Bring along 2 or so snack bag clips (large ones) to hold the drapes together. There is always that one little sliver where light gets through.

Use ear plugs whether you like them or not. Don't know how many times I was woken up by violent, drunk arguments or just ordinary drunken hell-raising, and this in the finer hotels. Why is it that all of the great arguments are in Spanish? I'm a solo, so I can't be nagged, but if you or the partner want to get frisky, I'm sure you can work out a hand signal. The plugs are easily removed. Don't try this with a new partner, because your unresponsiveness to her sweet nothings could end up with you getting bruised ribs.

At buffets, serve yourself from the bottom up, the top stuff will undoubtedly be cold.

If you're solo, eat at the bar. You won't feel like an ass and it is easy to chat up other patrons or the bartender or watch a game. Table servers often (not always, but often) look down their noses at singles.

Unless you can deal with it, stay indoors or in the pool in the afternoons during the hot months. Not next to the pool, in it. Casino crawling on 100 deg days can result in the dreaded "Vegas Flu", from going from 110 to 65 in an instant.

If you are solo, don't let your guard down, which means you cannot afford to get drunk. Spread your drinks out and drink a water every 2 or 3 drinks. Ladies, never, never, never leave your drink unattended.

Always keep your wallet in a front pocket. Cargo shorts are best because they have Velcro closures or buttons. A thief will always look for the easiest mark.

Men, don't high five the hookers. While your hand is in the air, your side is wide open to her pickpocket boyfriend. Besides, there is no telling where her hand has just been.

Unless it is on your death bucket list, stay away from the crowds at TI for the Sirens show. All of those sweaty bodies packed close together is a time bomb waiting to happen. Unless you are in to the sort of thing.

If you encounter a tall, long-legged, incredibly beautiful hooker (usually African-American, not always, no racial profiling here) dressed in high end fashion clothes, better take a look at their throat, because it's almost guaranteed to be a transvestite.

If you are taking something out of the safe, check and double-check to make sure you have locked it back up. You can be careless, in a hurry or drunk. Rooms get broken into, I don't care how high class the joint is.

Look the time share people directly in the eye and say get lost.

The porn slappers are completely harmless and they are breaking no laws.

Is this really a thing? I have been getting propositioned by LV's finest working girls for 20 years and never has one asked for a high five. The only high fives I've been offered have been at the craps table during a good roll.

If you're not gambling, buy cheap beers from convenience stores rather than from the casino bars.

I'm not sure if overly cautious, is the right term.

And how come it has to be a black transvestite? I'm no expert on this subject, however I'm sure if we did a poll of tranny's around the greater Las Vegas area. I'm guessing whites would make up the largest demographic. Just a guess

If I recall correctly, in another post you felt the need to mention that a certain worker that gave you bad service was a black lady. Not sure if there is any reason to mention if someone's black or not. Just a thought, and that's coming from the most pasty white guy around.

But some great information, thanks for sharing.

The Adam's apple is a dead giveaway and I had to point this out to a drunken former colleague at a bar.

A great list and I will use several on my next trip, thanks.

    Keep them coming.
