Basic scoop: I arrive on Sunday night, Oct. 27, with girlfriend in tow. She's fine with an average room that's not grungy. We wanted to stay at Orleans our first three nights, but it turns out that Sunday night is inexplicably sold out. So here are options, which would you choose if you were choosing for one night? (We'll be moving to Orleans on Monday morning.)

    Expedia is offering:
    Quad for $19
    Palace Station for $22
    Riviera for $23
    Sam's Town for $28
    Circus Circus for $31
    Rio for $34

Boyd says most of its properties are sold out that Sunday, but it will offer Gold Coast for $35.

I'm pretty flexible for that one night, I don't need to be downtown, or on the strip. All of them should have resort fees. Without looking, I'll assume it's apples to apples, unless I find out one wants a ridiculous rate for the privilege of staying at its resort.

So which would you choose from this list, and why?

Unless you are against the strip, I would do the Quad. Great location and cheap.

I'd do Quad just to give that strip location for a night.

There is a music festival happening in downtown on Sat 26th and Sun 27th Oct which is estimated to draw 30,000 people per day.

A lot of downtown and mid-range Strip properties will be showing as sold out or limited on these dates.

I would do the Gold Coast. It is a nice property, about on par with Orleans, and IMHO, much better than any of the others listed. Resort fee is going to be lower also, so that should make up the price difference.

Of those you've listed, I have to agree with above... Gold Coast is the pick.

Gold Coast or Palace Station. You couldn't pay me to stay at The Quad.

Also, Priceline and other OTA's have rooms for Orleans for that night, as low as $45 if you don't want to move....

I'd also go with Gold Coast.
Not sure if you're planning on renting a car, but if not, you can take the free shuttle from the Gold Coast to Orleans. I know you're not supposed to take luggage on the shuttles, but on a Monday morning it shouldn't be a problem.

Gold Coast first choice but now includes a $9 resort fee..Nice clean room always and Rio second, higher resort fee by a few dollars but nicer spread out room..One of those two and as mentioned just take the GC shuttle to the Orleans. If you stay at the Rio it's no big deal to walk over to the GC.. Good luck whatever you decide, you can't go wrong with either!

If you go to Gold Coast make sure you hit up Ping Pang Pong!

I've never been to the Palace Station, but out of that list maybe Sam's Town. Something that offers more than gambling.

I didn't get a good vibe at the Gold Coast, and I went specifically to Ping Pang Pong. I had their dim sum. Hit and miss, the chinese sausage was shitty hot dog, but the rest was good, the soup's looked really good. It was really like eating at a Chinese restaurant that people from China would eat at. Some unusual stuff that if someone else was with me I'd try. I forget what it was now, but you take a double look when you see it on the menu. Other than that GC was old and smokey.

If you've never been to the Silverton, that would be my pick.

At $45 it might be worth the trouble to pay a little more and not pack up on Monday.

Yes, I'll have a rental car, so location isn't an issue in this scenario.

    Thanks all for the feedback.

UPDATE: Thanks for the Priceline suggestion. With tax and resort fees the room is about $61. Sure, there's cheaper to be had elsewhere, but the time not spent moving between hotels is worth something, so this made sense.

I rather stay in one place, so my vote is to stay at the Orleans if you can. I stayed at Palace Station about 20 yrs ago and Gold Coast also in the same period.
If you choose to stay at Palace Station make sure to get a tower room. I really enjoyed my stay, but never wanted to try the courtyard rooms which never seemed as nice.
I enjoyed the Gold Coast and know the room were recently renovated, but they are on the small side.

Since you will have a car, have you looked at Sunset Station, I stayed there and enjoyed the casino and the area.

Quad is fine especially for location. It's not exactly on-par with the quality of the Orleans.

But if you want places on-par with Orleans, I would say Sam's Town, palace station, Rio and Gold Coast. My favorite of the four is Gold Coast. All of their rooms are modern, clean and recently renovated. Rio is a bit more upscale than the rest although it's received some neglect and is in dire need of renovation. Sam's town is beautiful and spacious but far off-strip. Palace station is very manageable and clean (but off-strip).

Ditto GC or Rio and shuttle to the strip. The Quad location is great, but it is just nasty!
