I was just in AC for a few hours and played super times VP at the 0.05 cent level (3 and 5 hand). Anyway, after I lost my 1st $20 I put a $100 into the machine, smallest bill I had thanks to the ATM. Guy sits down next to me and continued to put $5 into the machine at a time, explained to me that's how he does it and that way he doesn't lose all the money? (BTW, I didn't notice this strategy, guy informed me of how he does things) His wife was sitting a few machines down and he would occasionally cash out and hand her the ticket and put another $5 into the machine.

Question: how many of you have a similar or different strategy? Maybe I don't fully understand his, but I am curious as to what others do.

I've seen people play and almost continuously cash out and re-feed the machine.

For the life of me I can't figure that one out! Maybe it's supposed to bring good luck, like rubbing the screen or something?

    My SIL does that.
She puts in a $20, if she gets to $40, she cashes out the ticket and puts in another $20.
I do not get it. To add to the confusion, she sometimes forgets to cash her tickets out before leaving the casino (sometimes even Vegas) :goofy:

I do that sometimes. Keeps me from burning through all of it. If I pocket the $40 ticket, put in another 20 and lose that, then I'm even. If I don't cash out I'll possibly burn through the winnings and initial investment ( not that it's an investment). I usually start with $100 though and cash out at some predetermined amount like 140-150. Then start over with a new $100.

I know a guy whose wife plays the $50 and $100 slots. he makes her feed the 100s into the machine by hand so she goes slower and loses less. so she feeds 2 in, hits spin, feeds 2 into the machine next to her, hits spin. does this with 3-4 machines at a time. that's one way to help mitigate the losses. also, anybody who plays those slots plays 3-4 at a time since they lock up for a hand pay every few minutes anyway.

I like to cashout when I get to double what I put in...

Lion's Share I always cash out at 360...then put the 60 back in and keep playing. Did this 3 times in one sitting over memorial day weekend...but ended up putting all 1080 back through chasing the progressive

I've tried many things to limit losses on slot machines. I expect to lose at times, but I feel a lot better when I doubled my money and actually get a ticket in my hand proving that I won.

I don't do this all the time, but fairly often on trips. I will take a $100 bill, go break it up into $20s and go to 5 different machines with each of the $20s. If I hit a bonus or nearly double my money, I'll cash out and move on to the next $20. At times I'll even play the same machine.

At the end of all of that I should have 5 tickets, and I see how much I lost/won. I may end up doing the process all over again.

I do the same for table games as well. I'm simply forcing myself to take wins when I can. I know I'll just head to another table, but if I NEVER took a win, then I have 0% chance of coming out ahead.

One thing that I noticed is when I start with larger amounts I dont recognize (or appreciate) the wins as much. For example, If I put in $20 and get up to $100, then cash out and take the ticket to another machine... if I get to say $180 I dont see that as a very good win..."its not even double what I started with" (100) but really its a very good win from the 20 I actually started with...so I keep playing and usually lose it all...

To mitigate this, I try to avoid using larger starting amounts and/or continuing on one ticket

I do that quite often. My husband on the other hand will just keep his winnings in the machine and say "I'm just going to play it down to..$X" Then he gets down to that amount and it's so easy to say ..."well, maybe just a little more...I'll play until $X.." and on and on until it's gone completely.

If I cash out when I'm ahead and start with another new $20. Once it's gone, I'll walk but then I still have that ticket in my purse that I go cash out. I take $20 out and put the overage in a separate pocket in my purse. Most of the time it works.

That's how we came home with at least some of our bankroll in tact this last May and I plan on using this strategy again on my next trip.

That is a money management tip many people use, but I can't be bothered. If I'm in a casino to play VP, I'm there to play and not screw around with small denominations, multiple tickets, etc. I'd rather put in a hundred and play. Being forced to play with $5 bills would drive me crazy. I don't even like playing with $20's. If I'm playing with $20's, I'll feed five of them at once to start the session with $100. But, to each his own. As the old comedian said to his grandson, if everyone liked the same thing, everyone would be after your grandma!

This is a great late night drinking story.

Wife when to bed. If there was a drinking limit for playing the slots I well exceeded it.

I took 6 $100 bills and would play one until I opted to cash out and play another machine and if I got way up I would cash out and put in a fresh $100.

After a while I put another ticket in my pocket and reached for a fresh $100 and guess what there were none left. I figured "Oh well it was fun."

Before heading to the room I cashed in my tickets and it resulted in something like $1600. It was a wonderful surprise.

That is a great f*cking story! I do stuff like that all the time, preserving my wins on my TITO and then get to the room and have all these tickets but they sure don't always add up like yours did.

Kind of a weird twist on the topic but here goes. I introduced my GF to VP a few months before our July trip. I got her set up on WinPoker and she started to understand the strategy.

We are in Vegas a couple of days into our 7 day adventure when she goes on a full on tilt. I've never seen anyone chase a loss like that, and to make it worse she just wouldn't take a break and start fresh a little later. It must have been the 3rd time she hit up the ATM that I really started to pay attention. Oh hell no she had discovered Ultimate X. She was hooked and it was bet max 10 hands turbo give me next months lunch money.

I knew I had to slow her down so I finally convince her to go from quarters to nickles, still no change. At that point she kind of looks at me and says what do I do. I have never ever played Ultimate X, well never bet the Ultimate anyway so I throw a 50 into the machine and pull this wisdom out of my ass.

I am just trying to slow her down so I say " This Ultimate X is different, you bet max, then the next hand you bet 5.

I play a few hands like that and then on max I am dealt a FH which gives me IIRC a 3X pay on the next hands.

    Sooooooooooo

I back the bet down to 5 on ten hands and hit deal.........

    I am dealt 4OAK.

I draw her attention and hold, hold, hold, hold.

    Deal.

    Bang nice hit.

It was the worse thing that could have happened but it was the best too as far as my win and her sudden change of luck, now she is not losing but more like breaking even.

The next morning she rips a page out of my book and leaves me to sleep while she goes off for some wonderful Baily's and coffee and a early VP session.

I awake and she is gone, no big deal I do it all the time. I hit the shower and towel off when she busts into the room. She is ecstatic, she has a hand full of TITO and a bunch of pics on her phone.

Turns out she did play Ultimate X with my made up BS strategy and it worked LOL

It worked well enough for her that in the next 4 days she worked out of a 8K hole to end up 1.5K down.

It's the only way she plays now and it sort of works, sometimes LOL

Myself I know I made that shit up and although I don't play Ultimate X often, when I do I play it that way LMAO.

On the rare occasions that I play slots, I put in a $10 or $20 and if I get up to $100 I cash out to avoid the temptation to keep increasing my bet. It's much more tempting to play a max bet of $3-5 when there's a hundy in the machine than if there's $10 or 20.

I put in another $10 or 20 and when that's gone I move on. I hate the feeling of a machine taking back my winnings. Of course, I'll spread the winnings around and eventually lose it, but psychologically it feels better that I "walked away" from that first machine. Silly logic, but my fun/my rules.

I don't play slots often but when I do I use the same stragety. I figure if it's not gonna hit on my first $20 then it won't hit and Ill move on to another machine.

Like someone else mentioned it's a lot more exciting to put a $20 and pop it for $100 vs having $100 in and winning $100.
