Saturday I dropped my daughter off for an all-day event.
I stopped at the local to kill the day playing $0.25 Bdlx. I played for five hours on $25.00 FP and $40.00 cash.
When I finished the session I had $125.00 and I was happy with the outcome.
I took a break and had a bite to eat.

I still had two and a half hours to kill. Returned to find all the quarter VP packed and found a seat at the dollar bank.

The first hundred went away in about fifteen minutes; I hit quads on the second hundred and bounced between two hundred and four hundred for quite a while.

Then in went on a rush of quads and ran my total up to fourteen hundred.

I cashed my TITO’s and was headed for the door with a smile on my face.

But, I had to walk past the bank of VP machines on my way out.

Of course I couldn’t resist the feeling that that machine wasn’t done paying out. I sat back down and in goes a hundred.
I was right it wasn’t done yet, I hit quads again.

This is where the stupidity and greed comes into play.

I played about 70 hands at one dollar; the machine had been hitting quads between 40 and 80 hands. I bumped it up to two dollars and nothing. I slid in two hundred more, same result. In goes two hundred more with the same result.

I know this thing is ready to pop.

I switch up to five dollars.

I know I’m going to hit.

    It’s due, I’m on a roll, I’m a gambling god.

    Nothing,
OK 200 more it has to hit.

Well it didn’t, I kept up the two hundred more until I gave it all back.

I walked out even but felt like I such an idiot.

I read other post’s regarding similar situations and just wanted to share mine.

yuck, leaving even after being up big feels worse to me than getting slaughtered right off the bat. I've done it too many times to count, so I've now vowed never to let that happen again.

Ouch I could feel your pain. Crazy how trying to win just a little bit more often ends in such bloody carnage.

Me too, and if there's one thing us gamblers are known for is sticking to those vows. :poke:

true, but enough pain can give you the willpower to stick to anything. just have to get to the point where you can't handle it anymore.

That is exactly correct. If you haven't felt the pain you can't really follow thru but its true what they say; "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger". I finally set downside limits once I'm up and stick to them. Probably helps that my bride and I are usually together and she asks,"what is your cash in point?" And then I have to say it out loud. Unless you're really a gambler you have no idea how hard it is to walk.

Been there, even bought the t-shirt...
One night, had my entire bankroll for the next day set aside ($1000)...well, proceeded to dig myself a big hole playing UTH, miracously on my last $100 (of the $1000 bankroll; to which I was supposed to use to play the next day to put in my quarterly coin-in amount) I ran it all the way back and promptly cashed out at exactly $995!!
The bad part is, after playing my coin-in, I had finished with $1700, so I thought what the hell, I'll get that other $300 on UTH no problem...i proceeded to dump the entire $1700 in the span of one dealer (after playing even for like 3 hours, this ONE dealer absolutely cleaned me out)
Needless to say, I felt like shit, considering I DID have a $700 win AND had played the required amount for the quarter!!

I think at one point or another we've all been there in one form or another. I did this very early in my gambling days about thirty years ago and was so disgusted with myself that I vowed I wouldn't ever let it happen again. So far it hasn't. I guess the only thing that can be worse is when one chases his/her losses and ends up in a nightmare situation. I guess as casino gamers all we can hope for is to learn from our mishaps and get stronger through them......:peace:

I can definitely relate to this...UTH is my game of choice! Was playing at Mirage a few days ago. I immediately started the session losing...being down $800 before I got on a heater. The heater got me back in the black and at the high got me to +$2000. The heater ended and within the next hour, they beat me down to be a $3000 loser for that session. Should have walked, but alas, I was in the "this is my last night, so who gives a f**k" mentality. I hate when that mentality takes control at the tail end of trips.

Here's the lie I tell myself.

I came here to gamble. If I could make more working my day job then the win was not enough.

After giving back my winnings I'm always kicking myself. Why did I just fkng self destruct

OMG I've done that too many times to. Nothing makes me as sick as knowing I was WAY up and instead I'm now down because I kept chasing a loss that wasn't even a true loss because I was really up.

Many of the same for visiting a casino, "Man I was up X amount and then I gave it all back and some of my own money as well."

Now I sometimes ask is the casino really the enemy or I am my own enemy. Realize once you can honestly answer this question, going forward you might come out a winner one day and stay that way.

I'm sorry, brother. I do feel your pain!

After my recent huge-win-turned-huge-loss this past weekend, I swore I was done gambling until my March trip. And (I told myself) if I didn't have to be in Vegas on business in March, I wouldn't even gamble that soon.

Then, about five minutes ago (before I was distracted by a VMB-check and found this thread), I picked up my iPad and thought "I wonder if Delta has anything decent for Thanksgiving weekend".

My name's Kyle, and I'm a degenerate gambler.

A casino doesn't beat the player. Rather a casino just enables a player to beat his/her self.

I can't remember who said that quote, but its so true. Although these days, the rules/odds lean more toward beating a player than ever. We still beat ourselves on occasion.

My worst ever "give back" was $800. I'd just arrived to a casino 100 miles from home, and had hit for $800 on video keno of all things :evillaugh . Should've turned around and went home, because that $800 all went back into the machines over the course of the night.

These days my roller coaster rides seem to go up and down almost instantly. It doesn't help that the cheapest minimum for BJ at the local casino (Maryland Live) is $25/hand. One can go from +$300 to -$500 in a matter of minutes. For a while, their cheapest craps was $50 min . I stood and watched as every player seemed to have one bet on the table, don't pass, no odds :evillaugh. I think the place wised up that people will lose more money at craps with a lower minimum, as they spread a $15 min game, and bets really fly all over at that table as per a normal craps table.

So true. The casinos may have a very tiny edge but when they are able to take advantage of people's natural penchant for greed, that tiny edge blows up to big numbers for them. Because we are naturally programed to overreach we end up losing more than we can handle. Once we realize it is too late. The casinos know this and take advantage of this human nature.

Yet when we are able to develop proper risk management, knowing ourselves, educate ourselves on basic math/probability and the game(s) we like to wager our money on, then we can regain control and become profitable every time we head to the tables. This skill can be developed but it will take time.

Anyone who believes THAT is a true degenerate gambler (unless of course we are talking about poker).
