I'm heading out to MGM in 3 days (so ready!) on a comp offer I received via email. The offer was a suite for two nights, I am "Paying" for the other two nights myself. The total including resort fees will be around $350? They advised of course "You don't have to pay until check out... we just want to you come have fun and we will evaluate everything when you leave"

This is obviously their way of rating my play before they comp me the extra two nights... my question is: Based on peoples experiences.. how much would I really need to gamble to get that covered?

I plan on gambling a few hundred bucks day (which I guarantee you I will go over as I always do).. would that cut it? It is also my birthday which is why I am going so I plan on asking for some extra comps upon check in (along with room upgrade)... Think I could score some food/beverage or resort credits as well?

    Thanks in advance!

In the world of offers and comps, they have actually "fronted" you the room with assumed play to follow.

Not until you play enough to cover the first two free nights will you get anything extra. At a few hundred per day, it is not going to happen. You will leave there being "in the hole". Since they already offered the room, they will not charge you back though.

The best the checkin people can do is an upgrade and even that is marginal. They will not be able to do food, etc.

By the way, I would bet that the suite you get is actually a large room, and not a true suite.

you're not going to get any F&B or resort credits at check in because it's your birthday. that stuff comes from the host office, not the check-in desk. it just doesn't work that way. also, if they were going to give you that stuff, they'd have offered it before you got there. any extra comps beyond the 2 nights is going to be on the backend depending on play.

it's hard to say for sure on such limited information, but based on "a few hundred bucks a day" it's unlikely that you'll get any additional comps on the backend after the 2 nights in a suite are covered.

That's right, you need to gamble like a baller to get a door in your suite! :evillaugh

What would constitute them throwing in the second two nights free as well? In regards to level of play? I know I'll hit the sportsbook hard.. I also know that doesnt factor into much for getting things comped on check-out..

Like I said I tell myself I'll do a few hundred a day, that can easily turn into 500+ a day.. I am just trying to use control :rolleyes2:

Yeah the GF wants to see the MJ show at Mandalay I am just hoping I go on a tear and get everything I want covered by I leave.. and win some cash

$X per day doesn't say much. that doesn't mean anything in terms of comps. it's all about what games you play, how much you bet and how long you play. however, off the cuff, even $500 a day isn't going to get you the other 2 nights comped unless you hit an incredible run and put a ton of play in. in general they want $150 avg bet for 4 hours a day just to cover 1 night of one of those suites.

If it really is $350 for two nights (which seems low for MGM), then to have a chance of getting all four nights comped you will need $700 in primary comps.

    35% *(Theo) = $700

So you will need ~$2000 in theo...and even then you are not guarenteed to get them comped...

And I dont think the sports book is rated play...they never accept my players card when I place bets...

yeah I would expect to pay the $350. I've stayed at MGM a few times now where I stayed 4 nights and they only comped 3 nights up front(both in standard grand rooms and a suite 1 trip). At the end of the trip all they would do use my express comps for any additional charges. I have not have them give me the extra night for free or pickup any food charges or resort fees. I usually plan $500 a day gambling which typically turns into $700-1000 a day playing 50% slots and the other 50% between let it ride, 3 card poker, bj and craps.

They might pick up 1 of the 2 extra nights but I wouldn't expect them to pickup both nights for $500 a day gambling budget. As people on the site always mention, don't play more than normal or above your comfort level to chase comps. Expect to pay it and if they pickup the charges at the end, that's a bonus for you.

I have asked before at Excalibur and they said they don't take the card for any bets under $1000. I've never put in a bet for that much so I don't know if that is even true.
When I asked if they take the card the last time I was at MGM's sportsbook, the attendant flat out said no... I had around $350 in total bets going in at the time. It might be b/c he knew I wasn't betting enough total.

Just an FYI, sports betting at an MGM property will not factor in at all unless you are betting five figures a game. I wouldn't factor that in when you are trying to determine what comps you are entitled to

Even if they took your card at the sports book, it would be worth so very little it would not matter - unless you are booking big numbers - like many thousands.

You are paying 350 $ for 4 nights (if reading correctly).....like less than 90 $ a night......don't press beyond what you are comfortable doing or you will risk 2000 $ for food......can you EAT that much unless at the most expensive restaurants over 4 days..??? Just be careful because it sounds like you are going into uncharted territory (for you) with a thick fog bank.....Why not just play your level over those days and see what happens in the end. Then when you come back on the next offer(?) you will know your comfort zone and the offers......if no more offers at least you weren't chasing ..... good luck.....

Yeah the reason it is $350 is I am paying for Sat/Sun and they are comping Mon/Tues.. I haggled on the phone with them originally for 20-30 mins to get that deal so I'm not sure what else it entails. I was just curious as to what level of play would warrant the two free nights and then the additional as well...

Sounds like much higher than my budget :evillaugh

The GF hates gambling so I am going to have to do it on my own time.. I'll just have to stick to my limits and hope I get lucky. I just try to get any comps/freebies whenever I can like the rest of us

We usually get 1-2 nights comped recently at Mirage and get around a $40 rate for the paid night (s). In the past we have asked on the last day about even getting food comped and the answer is always the same "you were given your comp up front on the room. The best you can do is use your express comps"

We play about $1000 a day for a 2-3 night stay, which computes to more than that coin-in since we are mostly slot players and still that is the answer. I remember years ago, when our bankroll was alot smaller and we played more BJ than craps (not even getting rated because we played mostly $10/$15 tables) our offers were better...usually 3-4 nights comp and then they would throw in a buffet or show tickets during our stay. These are the perks that had kept us coming back twice a year for so long. The old bait/hook game. They got us.

    Things have certainly tightened up!

Worse thing you can do is chase the comp. The comp will cost you more than the goods you desire. I work in a casino, I see it all the time

Yup. Just take $350 out of one of your $500/day budgets, and spent most of the day at the pool instead of the casino. Then just play whatever, whenever, and how ever much you feel like.

The only time I've been guilty of chasing a "comp" was when I was trying to advance to a higher tier before the cutoff date for some of the perks. For instance, this trip I'll be close to Mlife Platinum with just my regular play. If towards the end of the trip I'm within 5-10k points to hit platinum, I'll make sure that I hit it. A lot of the perks aren't that great, but the line skips are awesome, and you get a free cruise for platinum, which I probably won't use but you never know.

As stated, do not chase the comps.

My friend is a $50/hand blackjack player and he gets crazy comps. He can easily get 3 nights in a suite with a fairly generous resort credit.

I on the other hand play $10-$25 a hand and only get 2 night offers at Mlifes cheaper properties. Last trip I decided that I was gonna play a few hours of $50/hand to help me in the comp area. It was an absolute disaster. I get some better room offers now, but I paid $2,000 at the BJ table in order to get a free $200 room. I could be staying in a penthouse suite for 2k.
