Santa Fe Station

Has anyone here stayed at Santa Fe? any info? How are the rooms and surrounding neighborhood?

Never stayed there, but my wife bowled on leagues there for a couple of years. Casino is OK and they also have a movie theater, but there is really nothing around the area to walk to. Rancho is a major highway and very busy.
I am not afraid of much, but I would not be out after dark walking around that area. Just my .02.

 

I visited Santa Fe Station one time with a local, played BJ for a few hours, had the buffet (free), and subsequently received some decent offers. I haven't stayed there, but the local guy described the rooms as your basic "decent." I might have considering staying there, but when I posted a similar query to yours, Joe told me basically the same thing and I decided to pass. That's mainly because I don't drive in Vegas, and it sounded like a death-defying walk from the nearing bus stop. If I were driving, I'd give it a go.

 

I would only stay strip or downtown. Even if you have a car, that casino is far from the strip. I you want to stay in locals type casino try the Orleans. My brother has stayed there and said the rooms were pretty nice. Also the Rio has nice rooms, I've stayed there back in 09. If you go downtown I would stay anywhere but the Golden Nugget. They have by far the nicest rooms downtown. Over the years I've became I little bit of a hotel snob. If I can't afford a decent room ill just stay home. I can't bring myself to spend my hard earned money to stay in a dump even if its comped.

You will get hundreds of reviews and pictures. The place is very cool but isolated from the strip.

 

Rooms are standard, nice enough. Bathrooms VERY small, I hate them! Casino has a lot of good playable VP, including two bartop progressives at the Cabo Mexican restaurant and the bowling alley bar. Sportsbook area is nice. If you have been to Sunset Station, I would say the casino atmosphere is on par with that. Lots of machines, stays pretty busy but not overly so. Tables pretty popular too.

I agree that there is no surrounding area to speak of. Highway and houses, sketchy places.....but the hotel and casino are safe and fine.

 

Just wanted to add a tip. If you play at the bartops in the sportsbook area, the paytables are different from one side to the other.

If you sit on the side facing the big screens, you get another point on the FH. Sit on the other side, and you lose a point.

This was ~3 years ago, but the DDB on one side paid 9-5, while the other side paid 8-5. It always struck me funny/odd because this is a locals place and you would think they know better, but that side of the bar always had players, even if there were seats open on the "good" side.

 

Actually, Joe, a year or so ago they removed all the good paytables from the sportsbook bartops. Shame, as I used to like to play them while the husband was watching football.....
