Is it true that you cannot bring any food or drinks up to the skylofts?
Do I have to pay the 250% markup from the in house selection?

I plan to be there in two weeks and now wondering if it wasn't the best choice as I plan to have a group of people over for drinks and supper from a restaurant of MY choice..

    Mac

Has anyone had problems bringing stuff up?

Stated policy and reality are far apart.

People take food, drink, etc to rooms all the time with no problems. Can not imagine Skylofts are any different.

Housekeeping would know once they start cleaning the room and see bottles of beer or hard liquor.

Except they sell all that stuff at the hotel gift shop, too. I can't imagine the policy being that you can't take things you bought inside the casino up to your room.

We stayed at Sky Lofts Sunday through yesterday. We didn't see anyone trying to bring in groceries or drinks. Nor did we see anyone toting their own luggage.
Your Sky Lofts host/concierge will stock your refrigerator with your choice of water and nonalcoholic drinks for free. Since you are planning on entertaining a large group for dinner and drinks, why not just ask your concierge about other food and liquor at the time you submit your nonalcoholic requests for your refrigerator?
    Enjoy!

I read in the policy manual and also got an email confirming I "can't" bring anything up to the room.

I stayed in the terrace suite MGM a month ago and brought 8 bottles of booze, 5 pizzas, and about 20 people back for a snack before we headed out. All the food and booze was there when the maids cleaned.. nothing was mentioned?!?! Maybe its just a skyloft policy.

I respect MGM but feel thats a bit unfair. Also confusing is that I can ask the butler to go grab me a burger from In and Out and off he goes to bring it back up to the room.........

Maybe Its one of those policies that is just not really enforced and used only if people start throwing wedding parties that are catered etc.. I'll let you know.

I could never afford one of those places but it just seems weird that a hotel would not let you bring outside food & drink into a hotel.

If it was a wedding i could understand but i would be a tad upset paying good money and i couldn't order a pizza.

If it is their policy though you have to be careful, they can ding ya if you sign as such.

you can bring whatever you want if they don't see it come through the lobby. Once it's in your room the only one who might see it is the butler. Just make sure to tip them well and you'll have no issues.

Really? It is the stated policy of just about every full service hotel to not let you bring in outside F&B. They want to sell their own services. In places like the Skylofts, where people generally aren't showing up with coolers in tow, you will need to use some discretion--wine bottles in the suitcase=no problem. Cases of beer on the bellman's cart--probably won't fly.

I've actually ridden the elevator up to the Skylofts with a group of 6 early-20s guys who were carrying two 12 packs of Coors Light that I'm sure they just picked up at the local liquor store. they walked right through the lobby and nobody said anything. thankfully they weren't on my wing as I was headed to bed after a long night at the tables.

Generally these hotel policies, both in Vegas and elsewhere, are more directed at people hosting events -- if you want to host a reception in your suite, for example, then you have to use MGM's in-house catering or other approved vendors. While a policy like that technically includes "any" outside food or drink, in practice it's not like you're going to have trouble bringing a few bottles or some takeout.

It'll probably just depend on how big a group you're talking; a couple pizzas or something isn't likely to raise eyebrows, but if you're talking a catered dinner from a local restaurant, that might be more of an issue.

Not where i live in canada. With full service hotels here the only time you CAN'T bring anything is if it is an event or into the bar. You can take whatever you want into your hotel room. I also have worked in the hotel industry. So ya, this is weird to me.

Anyway, this is normal for ANY hotel ANYWHERE. There may actually be a few in the world that care and will enforce it. Those are also the same hotel that those people will never go to again, hence why hotels really don't enforce it.

Don't make it obvious and they won't care. If they do, what are you out? $40 for the left over bottles and some beer? You also won't spend another dime there. The hotel as an invested interest in letting you do what you want as long as you don't get rediculous. Don't bring up 20 bottles and party until 8am in the morning.

Even if its stated in the policy I doubt it's enforced. Put your booze in a bag and take it up. Unlikely anyone will stop you.

We had our wedding reception in a suite at Mandalay Bay in February. They also state that there was to be no outside food or beverage but we managed to pull off 49 people, outside catering, full bar/bartender, lighting and a dj with no problems. Just be respectful and tip the cleaning staff well.

MikeE hosted a kick ass party back in 2007 in the skylofts and offered up your general party finger foods. Cheese/veggie trays, etc. Everyone at the party brought a bottle of various liquor/mixers. There were no problems, and a great time was had by all.

Yea, people do, and I have, but yea I don't think anyone's really going to yell at you. Same for having more than 2 people in the room.

Also yes, you are staying at the most exclusive place in Vegas and are worried about overpriced food?

I wouldn't call it the 'most exclusive.'

Try Wynn/Encore Duplexes, Mansion, MO Mandarin/Emperor suites, etc for exclusivity. Skylofts, while fine, aren't that exclusive anymore and sure aren't what they used to be when they first opened. The level of service has dropped, the clientele rowdier and the suites themselves in desperate need of a full refurb.
