Getting married march 14 need a to do and not to do list

As the title suggests I'm hoping for some of you vegas regulars to give us some ideas on things not to miss and also some places too miss ie bad restaurants/shows

to do: tie the knot

to avoid: getting crazy and stressing about every detail and everybody who's coming and losing focus on the real point of the whole thing so that it becomes unfun.

 

There will be no real worry as everything is paid up front and we are not bringing anyone out with us (too many family issues) so we only have to get to the chapel on time.

 

For starters, where are you staying and for how long? Will you have a rental car? Gamblers? Foodies? Drinkers?

That might get the ball rolling.

Hi mate I suppose details like that would help.

We are staying at the Venetian and we are there for a total of 9 nights

We are not gonna be big gamblers but we will have a go.

We are trying to rent a car but neither of us have a credit card so trying to find a company that doesn't need one is proving difficult.

We both love food and we have plans to go to the peppermill restaurant and then the fireside lounge for a few drinks.

But that's the only plan at the moment.

Do you have a debit card? Most rental car companies will accept those but you may not want a hold on your actual cash. Same with the hotel. I'd suggest at least applying for maybe the Amex green charge card just for the holds and related room charged etc and just pay cash when you check out or pay it right off.

 

If you are looking for shows worth the time and money see:
Absinthe (you can find discounts online). It's raunchy but really fun, the venue is really small and no bad seat in the house.
Human Nature at the Venetian. These guys are great, don't let the former Australian boy band moniker fool you. If you like Motown music, this is the show to see.
Love (Cirque) at Mirage. Beatles songs, great acrobatics, can't miss. Really fun show and Mirage is practically across the street from Venetian.
Comedy: Vinnie Favorito (they always have 50% off coupons in vegas magazines) Guy is funny and has like a photographic memory.
Free show: Big Elvis at the piano bar at Harrahs. This guy is the best Elvis impersonator. He's lost a lot of weight but he used to be so big he sings sitting in a big Elvis chair. He does two or three shows every other day I think. It's free and you'll be surprised at the following he has.

 

Oops! Forgot to mention: Don't bother with Crissangel. That show is really corny and definitely not worth the money.

 

If you want a great lunch deal at a very expensive restaurant, go to Milos at the Cosmopolitan. For $22.13 per person, you get a three-course meal (you do have choices and extras you can pay for) that's absolutely fabulous at a beautiful restaurant. If you go here for dinner, it will easily cost you over $200 for two. Definitely try the grilled Lavraki (mediterranean sea bass) as your main. Out of this world.

 

Don't ride the gondolas. A super big rip off and not that romantic. If u have a lot of people 15-20 get a party bus and go to the bay and visit the mix lounge. Also is a dance floor in the middle of the casino.

 

Staying at Venetian? Bouchon is a really good place to eat. Not sure of your musical tastes or ages but I loved Rock of Ages. I also loved Carrot Top at the Luxor and we always eat at least once a trip at Earl of Sandwich at Planet Hollywood.

 

Hi mate yes I do have a couple of depot cards and I was planning to have one just for holds like you have mentioned.
I will try and call a couple of rental companies and find out what they will hold as I can't find any details about companies accepting a debit card at all.

Fingers crossed I can rent a car though as I really wanna go for some drives as I love driving.

I've read that the Chris angel show is a bit crap.

We are in our early 30's and into all sorts of music so rock of ages could well make the to do list. The Jackson show is already on it.

 

Must do: Bellagio Fountians & Eiffel Tower
and my hubby and I found the gondola ride (inside) very romantic. Guess it's each to his own.

 

Don't make an agenda or a list of stuff you "must" do. Just relax, wake up naturally and see what you feel like doing that day.

 

That's pretty much what we will do but I just wanted to get clued up before hand so I have as much knowledge as possible so I don't miss anything that we would enjoy then find out about it when we get back.

Really can't wait to go though. I love reading the trip reports on here.

Does anyone have an idea how much money you need for your average day in Lv without gambling (too big a variable that one)

Do

The Bellagio fountains and conservatory are must-dos. The pirate show at TI and volcano at Mirage, much less so. (But they are free and right across the street from you, so no reason to avoid them.)

Casinos I think are worth going to just to look around: Cosmo, Aria, Bellagio, Wynn/Encore, Venetian/Palazzo, Caesars Palace and Main Street Station (downtown). But really, you'll be there a while so you'll have time to see about everything on the strip and downtown if you want.

Cocktails at The Chandelier Bar at Cosmo and Parasol Up (or Parasol Down) at Wynn.

House brewed beers at Main Street Station.

Steaks at...well there are a million great steak joints in Vegas. Browse the Restaurants/Buffet section. (My faves are SW at Wynn and Craftsteak at MGM...but Venetian/Palazzo have a handful of top notch places so you really don't need to leave the property.)

Buffets...I'm not a huge fan but you probably need to do at least one. Again, check the rest/buffet section for ideas. Cosmo, Caesars, Wynn and Bellagio seem to get the highest marks, but are also the priciest.

Eat outside with a view of the Bellagio fountains. For lunch, Olives at Bellagio and Mon Ami Gabi at Paris have great views and have decent, though not spectacular food that isn't very expensive (though not exactly cheap either).

Try craps (if you haven't already). Most casinos put on lessons in the morning where you can learn the basics. It's a fun social game and it doesn't have to cost that much if you don't go crazy with the bets. Plus, craps players love "virgin" female shooters (assuming your fiancé hasn't played before).

Don't

If someone approaches you asking if you want a free meal or show tickets, politely say "no thanks" and keep moving. They're trying to sell you a timeshare.

Don't try to hail a cab on the strip, they aren't allowed to stop. Each of the casinos have a taxi stand where cabs line up to pick up fares.

Don't plan too much for each day. Have some "must dos", but allow yourself plenty of time to play it by ear.

It's a desert - don't forget to drink plenty of water!

There are gift cards for VISA, MC and AMEX that got up to $100.

 

Money per day can vary per day and per person. Each hotel is so large that you can just walk around and spectate for half a day or if you go to a show it might cost more. Also food costs can vary. People are posting deals daily on this site, however you can always find a Mcdonalds and eat a $1 Double cheeseburger if you need.

Thanks to all of you for the latests posts. Some really great advise there.

I have tried to join myvegas but I only have an iPad and i can't seem to get it working properly but ill persevere with it as I read about people on here getting a lot of offers from it.

My fiancée hasn't played craps before and neither have I so we are both looking forward to having some fun that.

We will end up doing a bit of gambling but neither of us have any illusions that we will be walking back to our suite with our pockets stuffed with cash :evillaugh so purely fun only.

I'm still loving the trip reports on here and I promise to write one ourselves when we finally get there.
