Can you (still) board and ride a bus (Deuce, numbered routes) with cash or do you absolutely need to have a ticket?

Yes, yes, yes, yes, I know that purchasing a ticket is trivial. This is for an older technophobic friend who will be visiting shortly. Can she just hop on the bus with cash in hand (yes, I assume exact change here) and ride?

I was under the impression that only the WAX took cash on board.

This question is kind of specific to the buses that run like along the Strip and from the Strip to downtown.

Well the WAX does run from the Strip to downtown. Catch it outside NYNY. Dropoff outside the D $2.

You must buy a ticket, neither the deuce nor the sdx accept cash.

You need a ticket prior to boarding because the driver is locked in a little cabin away from the passengers. There is no ticket machine. It makes boarding way smoother and faster then in the past.

the wax bus is old school where you put the money in.

The nice thing about the duece and sdx is you can get in in the back door so it faster.

what i noticed a number if times last month is the buses will clump up so there will be one right behind another one. If you see this, get on the second one. they are going the same place and everyone will be crowding their way onto the front one like lemmings.

The Deuce DOES accept cash. I am positive about this.

But bring the exact amount. They don't make change.

I have a "stupid bus question" as well

If I wanted to get from Rio to downtown (and back), what is the best way to do this, via bus?

Take the Rio shuttle to Bally's and catch a bus in that area, or is there a better, more efficient method?

    Thanks, in advance!

Excellent thread. Is there a bus that goes from CC to any of the other Casinos on the strip? Anyone know how much it costs or if I need a ticket for it?

you can check out this site http://www.rtcsnv.com/transit/
for info on the busses and routes
I almost missed a show back in april because I tried boarding the deuce bus with cash and I was denied because I needed a ticket, but, maybe they have gone back to accepting cash ;)

that would be great if the deuce went to a ticket before board system like the gold express.

maybe then the bus wouldn`t sit at every stop for what seems like forever while people are trying to pay on the bus.

would be a nightmare for them to ensure everybody pays I guess.

ok, I found my answer, we are staying at MC and I guess there is a Walgreens directly across the street where I can purchase a 3 day pass.

To the previous poster: the Deuce bus runs 24 hours a day and will take you up and down the strip. A 24 hr pass is $8 and a 3 day pass is $20. I believe they have a 2 hr pass as well but can't remember the price. They sell these passes at several stores but the only one I remember is the one I mentioned above. Hope that helps.

This one seemed answered well. I'd just add that whenever you can take the SDX. That Deuce is still overcrowded much of the busy times of the evenings. And sometimes you have to fight a crowd for a space in line to board.

    COSTS: 2 HOUR $6.00; 24 Hour $8.00; 3 day (72 Hours) $20.00

All these above are ALL ACCESS which means you can ride any of the buses....the Deuce, the SDX, or any of the residential buses including the WAX anytime and as often as you would like. These can be purchased at authorized vendors as well as machines at major bus stops.

On the topic of bus questions, what's the deal with people (not authorized vendors) trying to sell tickets at bus stops? On several locations, I've been approached by what seems to be locals trying to sell me a ticket at a reduced price. Assuming it was a scam, I never considered it but does anyone have any comments?

Personally, when I have a 24hr pass with a few hrs left knowing I won't use, I give it away to someone waiting at a stop and make their day! Pay it forward!

Either, they've used the ticket to get to where they need to and trying to re-coup some of the purchase price.

Or, they've collected discarded tickets from bins that still have a few hours left on them (I reckon a lot of tourists would by a 24hr pass in the evening to go from the Strip to Downtown and back and then chuck the ticket when they get off the bus)
