Instead of arriving at 9pm downtown on a Saturday, should I pay $100 to arrive at 11am? Almost a no brainer for me but gf doesnt want to shell out the extra cash. Wondering what the rest of you guys think. Personally I hate arriving late evening because it feels like Im wasting an entire day.

It might help to know how long you'll be in Vegas. An entire day matters a lot more over a weekend trip than one lasting for a full week or longer. We much prefer early arrivals too, but occasionally go at night if other commitments dictate or there's a big difference in airfares. Is the extra $100 for changing each ticket or both? Personally, we never ever change air once booked. At least on Delta, it's far too costly.

I try and book my flights to get in as early as possible. Although, I have gone on a whim...I didn't get checked in until 11:30 pm. I think I would have done the 100 if I could.

Maximize the time you have in Vegas my friend. Granted, 9:00 p.m is still super early for Las Vegas, to me getting there earlier in the day just sets the right tone. Think about this, yes it may be an extra $100, but what if you get there early and while waiting for the room sit at a bartop and hit a royal? Maybe a nice hit on a slot machine? Hell, I used to take the 5:20 a.m non stop from Tampa just to get there as early as possible...Of course I'm one of those annoying as hell chipper, chatty, "morning persons." :evillaugh It's $100 well spent imo.

Getting into Vegas at 9pm? Why? You wasted a whole day. I always get into Vegas by 10am. It gives me a whole day to party. I would pay the extra 100 bucks to get there earlier.
My vacation is 6 days. I book my flight to have me in Vegas by 10am. Why waste a whole day traveling?

I usually get to vegas at about 3pm. That way I'm in the hotel room by 5. If you land in vegas at 9 then you are in the room at 1030-11. No brainer to me to be honest. You never wanna waste a saturday in vegas no matter how long you are there.

My "standard" trips are three nights. When that's the case, I always try to arrive earlier - preferably before 3PM, but always before 6PM.

Now, when my trip is a four-nighter, I will deliberately book a late-arriving flight, and actually go to work on my departure day, and head to the airport straight from work.

Not that it's pertinent to this thread, but on those rare "two-nighters", I look for the 6:30AM departure so that I actually get two full days of gambling.

(I always enjoy the looks I get ordering a tanqueray & tonic on the plane at 6:30AM out of DFW) :wink2:

I'm not an early morning person like Gino, so we usually get the 12:50 PM non-stop flight that arrives in Vegas at 2:50 PM. There is also a ns 9:15 AM flight, but then we have to kennel the dog the day before ($30) and no time for breakfast.

All that being said, I'd spend the $100 and arrive early. Is that $100 each, or $50 pp?

Its ~$50 extra per person with Southwest and we're staying from 12/21-12/24. In the past 2-3 days have been plenty when we've stayed on the strip but the last trip, we were downtown for 2 days and I felt I wasn't ready to leave. Still so much to do.

Oh and those times already have about an hour added from the time the flight lands so that would be in downtown at the hotel time. I figure we get in around 11am and grab a buffet and start our day relaxed instead of in a rush to grab dinner and then hit the casinos.

I would pay the 50 per person.

not a lot of money and life is short.

I almost always fly in late and love it; allows me to crash and have a full next day in Vegas without the travel hassle

Just looked at SW prices again and they jumped up another 26$ per person. Guess I'll have to wait till next week to switch. They're not fooling me :nono:

    Definitely as early as possible.
It would be hard arriving late and be expected not to over do it on that first night.

BTW, we attempted a late night arrival once and will say there seems to be more opportunity for problems. We not only had flight issues but also room issues.

As Gerry53 put it, life is too short. I'm sure the memories and experiences you'll have that extra day on vacation will be worth more than a 100 bucks when it's all said and done.

I've fallen victim to this on most trips. I always overdo it the first night on 2 night stays which leads to losing an entire day to a hangover  :drunk:

We have been taking a non stop SW flight out of OKC that leaves at 11.15 am (central time) and arrives in Vegas at noon. That leaves us the whole day in Vegas and we don't have to get up too early and rush around.

I won't take a flight that early even if it's way cheaper. I prefer an afternoon arrival.

Since the only two choices on the Poll are before noon and after 9pm, then I would choose "Before Noon" as it is closer to my preferred arrival window of 1:30pm to 3:00pm.

I have a long flight from the east coast and like to hop on a 6 or 7am flight arriving before noon in LV. Get to the hotel, check in, settle in and you have the whole day (nap if you must); then a good sleep and I'm on Pacific time. My last day is all about travel so I take a late morning or early afternoon flight which allows me to sleep, have a good breakfast, before packing and checking out and heading to the airport.

My next trip in feb I took a late flight as the only affordable flight to get me there in time. It saved me enough to pay for a room, then having full days to do my thing for 7 full days before the final day and flight home.

Generally I agree with this. However, if you're arriving at 9pm the night before your vacation starts, you actually gain a night in Vegas, rather than lose a day! :drunk:

I've done that a few times: Leave town in the evening, after my last day of work prior to a vacation, rather than wait until the following morning. Bonus night! :woohoo:
