Just got back from 6 days at MSS. This was our first time staying downtown and will not be the last. It was Great! MSS was so much fun! The dealers were all fun and friendly, as were the pit bosses. The drink service was the best, you had to be careful or you could easily get hammered in a short time. The people that we met at the blackjack tables really helped make the stay memorable. We were a little concerned about the atmosphere on Fremont St. before we got there, but it turned out to be very laid back as well. We were at the Third Eye Blind concert on Saturday and although crowded, there were no problems while we were there. Just a lot of happy people. During the day it was a joy to just walk Fremont and take in the sights. It was all very relaxing which is what we were looking for. Nice clean room, bed was very comfy, and no problems with the trains at night. And maybe best of all....NO PORN SLAPPERS! Thanks to all that recommended MSS!

Win or lose, I have always found the blackjack tables at MSS to be a lot of fun. Great dealers & easy-going pit-critters who aren't afraid to let a $10 player get a meal comp!

I also think it's a great looking casino! Wonderful 'feel' inside.

Glad to hear it... I poke fun at the Boyd "lovers', but I bought some BYD stock a few years back and continue to do pretty darn good with it.

Based on the love MSS gets from Joe and other folks on this board, I finally gave it a decent try one night a couple trips back. I had a blast playing blackjack in the wee hours of the morning. I loved the whole vibe of the joint. The dealers, pit boss, and the other drunk 3:00 am blackjack players like me made it alot of fun . Drink service at the tables and Boar Bar were excellent. I did not love the fact that the Boar Bar didnt have 9/6 DDB when you can walk across the street to the Cal and get full pay. The rooms were nice and quiet. I have to give it a thumbs up too!

Just don't attempt to get more than one "discretionary" comp from the pit per trip...no matter what limit you're playing...

Glad you enjoyed downtown and MSS. Even though we stay at the CAL (we use the pool and love the location), we are usually at MSS every day during our seven day stay. For sure we ate at 777 three times, my son needs to go to the Boar daily,we love the vibe of the entire property, and the dealers, pit, and servers are all fantastic.

P.s. next time when eating at MSS, order the loaded potato chips for an appetizer....one of our new favorite items on the menu.

The small pool is very basic. However, it suits our needs in the morning. No bar area, but we always bring our own refreshments. On the plus, there is no fighting for lounge chairs as we typically have the pool area to ourselves. I believe if you are staying at either MSS or Fremont, you also have access to the pool.

Just be aware if you are staying at MSS, you have to go to the front desk at Cal to get a card for pool access. I don't know if staying at Fremont allows access to the Cal pool.

The water in the pool has been very cold when we've used it. Also from MN and use to swimming in cold lake water.

Huddler ... Just an FYI ... The 9/6 DDB game is really not "full-pay", only rated at 98.98%. The full-pay version (10/6 DDB) is available at all of the "Stations and Fiesta" chain of properties, rated at 100+%.

I REALLY like the MSS rooms now that they have ditched the huge TV armoirs and installed the minimal credenzas with flat screen tv's.

I also like the 2 royals I hit there earlier this month.

One funny story re the MSS. While checking in a few years ago, I noticed a white mouse running along the baseboard behind the desk clerk. Fearing a ruckus, I kept quiet so the check in girl did not see it. I just wanted to check in and grab a nap.
