Staying downtown for the first time. Are there any clubs worth checking out. Not looking for the young bump and rub ultra lounge vibe. Looking for something like Cleopatras Barge or just somewhere with good drinks and music where my wife and I (we are both 35) can hang out and dance a bit. Any ideas.
I don't think downtown has much of that. There is the Gold Diggers lounge at the Nugget - I have no idea what the drunkographic is there though. There are lots of good bars in Fremont East with live music etc. that might be worth checking out.
I think you'd LOVE Gold Digger's upstairs at the Golden Nugget... great little balcony overlooking Fremont Street.
Clubs Not many clubs down town. There is a couple in the mall but they were dead when we went. There was a club in the plaza but it was closed. Zipped into the glitter gultch club for a few minutes that was fun. Seen one at Golden Nugget but did not go in. I believe it has a balcony. We took a cab a few miles away to the Revolver club at Santa Fe station and it was a blast. Only open Wed - Sat. Free dance lessons and free entry before 10.
I tried to grab a beer and some old video game playing at Insert Coins last week but it was not open, even after 5:00. I am wondering if it is now closed. Jerry, the following site has a very good list of the good/bad/ugly bars downtown but it's not updated very often. Still good though: http://www.fremontstreetbars.com/
I'm 44 and went to Gold Diggers last October on a Friday with fiance, her 2 gf's and friend of mine and hung out on the outside patio while they play EDM and had a blast. Gold Diggers itself was also cool and packed that night but more rap/top 40 which was not the group's style. Got in for free due to some passes that were given to us outside the casino. $10 if you didn't have a pass. This past July for the bachelor/birthday party hit Fremont on a Thursday night. Went to DCR, very lounge focused and the music is more of a Chicago house/jazz vibe. Great drinks there and now understand the word mixologit vs. bartender. Age range 27-50. Vanguard lounge also but was more EDM music which follows more of the Skrillex variety. Personally Gold Diggers is the way to go out of the 3 and regret not going back there that Thursday evening but I don' know if it was even open that night.
Have to give my thumbs up for Gold Diggers as well. Great little bar, totally awesome balcony to people watch, and free passes if you look for them out in front of the GN. How can you go wrong with that triple treat? Insert coins is kool for a retro evening and the Beauty Bar has great live entertainment on some nights. Both are E. Freemont places.
Las Vegas Country Saloon Hello first time poster. Mostly read (and lurk) so I thank those that post for us to learn from. We went to LVCS (their website says Live Music Venue) last Saturday evening - someone gave my husband tickets to see a band called Resurrection. It was a little confusing to find it as it was our first visit to downtown and Fremont Street. It was upstairs above Henesseys Supper Club (looked like a good place to eat next time). We took the escalator up and found a guy playing a guitar and a bar with inside seating and also outside where the smokers were. When they opened the doors at around 8pm we went inside and it was a big place. We found a booth off to the side and got a couple drinks at the bar. Later on there was a waitress also. Cold beer on tap and they seemed to have a full bar too. The first band on was just ok - nothing special. The second band was Resurrection and was really good - not sure how to describe their music but it was all original. Their flyer on the table called it Rock with an Edge. We danced and had a great time. I'm 35 and hubby is 39. We got on their website and are going to see them again. They list their show dates so we know when we can go see them. The place really emptied out after aterwards so we finished our drinks and roamed around outside. It was nice to finally get to downtown. Parking was $10 for the whole night but it was convenient so worth it. Maybe we will see you there sometime! We will for sure be there on the 14th.
We're in our late 30's/early 40's and we went to Gold Diggers as part of a class reunion last year. We had a really good time. As others have mentioned, there were coupons for free entry near the elevators downstairs. Early on in the evening the crowd was really fun, but we left around 2:00 a.m. as the vibe of the crowd changed.
