To piggyback on sindustry's thread below (I didn't want to hijack his/her thread)...

I am going to book a trip soon...likely November 27th through December 2nd. I have not been to Vegas since February 2012 and back then I did not have the bankroll to even think about a host. I would get mid-week corporate offers from NYNY and I also had a few offers from Venetian and of course the middle tier Harrah's properties.

However thanks to a nice raise and promotion I am able to significantly increase my bankroll.

I am mainly a dice player. I will play 12 hours of dice a day without batting an eye. To mix it up I throw in some blackjack and roulette but the craps pit is where you'll find me more often than not.

At the local places I usually have $90-160 out per roll on a $10 table which includes my odds. As as mentioned above I will play 8-12hrs a day especially with this being a solo trip.

My bankroll for this trip isn't set in stone yet but will be $5000-7500.

    The questions I have are;

I looked at The Mirage's site and see 11 "slot hosts" listed. I assume these are the regular hosts too?

Would my play be host worthy?

Do I just pick one and e-mail them?

Does anyone have a recommendation for anyone in particular?

My history with MLife is very low and I am the lowest level right now - what could I expect up front, if anything?

I am mainly looking for my room to be comped and have some F&B credit. I am going to gamble and I don't care about shows or fancy restaurants on this trip.

I'd even be happy with just the room being covered.

Any advice and thoughts are welcome.

    Thanks!

If you have an Mlife account you can:

    • Log into your account and see if you have any offers.
    • Call the regular Mirage reservations line and see if you have any offers
    • Go ahead and email one of the slot hosts.

Anything you get up front will be based on your history - a promise of play means nothing. If you don't have much history, it's likely the host will just tell you they'll look at things on the back-end.

Odds don't count. Let's say you have a $50 average not counting odds - 6 to 8 hrs a day should be enough to get a room comped at Mirage. Make sure you ask the box what you got rated at.

If you can't get anything comped up front, book the best deal you can find here or on smartervegas.

The slot hosts could help you but they are not the table hosts. The table hosts are rarely if ever listed on the website. If you wire the money ahead of time you can probably get 3 nights comped upfront from a host even with little play history.

    Thanks guys.

In my previous trips I never really had the roll to get noticed nor did I care or even think about concentrating play to certain properties. I was happy to take their reduced room offers (from the MGM resorts) and free rooms at lower end CET joints (Harrah's and Bally's).

I looked at my MLIFE offers and I have some nice discounted rates for Mirage during my dates.

I also looked at TR and I can get Harrah's, Bally's, Flamingo, PHo for free 5 out of the 6 nights.

So what I think I am going to do is take the CET offer at one of those places but play quite a bit at Mirage to get on their radar.

I plan to go into the host office and introduce myself to someone and see what they'd look for in play for what I'd want in comps.

From my time here I recall you being a dice player, right Chuck? It sucks that they don't count the odds (do any of the "loyalty" programs count the odds in town?).

On a $10 table I'm going to have $10 on the line with 3x-4x-5x. I usually start $34 inside but will cover all place bets up frequently (especially when I shoot - then I start with $81 across).

I also tip well which I know helps boost the rating.

It is my belief that it is better if they don't count odds. It might be better for the player that ONLY does PL/Come bets always with full odds. I think it doesn't work well for others.

$50 PL bet with $250 odds and add in $130 across.

Total bet of $430. with 3 outcomes

    1) They just rate you at the ~0.4 % House Edge because a majority of your bet is on free odds
    2) They rate $300 at 0.4% and the $130 at some sort of number they value on place bets.
    3) They keep track of every bet and do exactly house edge

Well #3 will never happen. If #2 happens, it is no different than not including odds. #1 is horrible to the player.

I do not want #1 to happen and the only reason it can happen is when they rate odds. No casino is suddenly going to give you extra comps because you are making a bet that has no house edge. I feel it can only hurt you in whatever averaged house edge they do end up using on your bet.

yep, that's correct. Natedogg proved it when he played at Cosmo, which does rate odds, and found his theo considerably lower than comparable play at the other properties that don't rate odds. his avg bet way higher, but theo lower because they deduct so much for including the odds it's worse for the player.

Good point on the odds. The fact that I like to cover the place bets up frequently will help offset that loss of odds in the total rating.

I just finished booking my room at Harrah's and I am comfortable with this plan to stay there and then play a lot across the street at The Mirage. The Harrah's offer is comped for all days, which is six nights.

Hopefully with my new level of play compared to previous trips it will help lay the groundwork for my Super Bowl weekend and March Madness trips.

it's worth a few minutes to call Mirage and ask to get in touch with a host, tell him your plan and see what he'll do. you might be surprised, but worst case you already have the backup plan in place.

Good idea - I will give them a call and see.

I called V/P and they have me down for three nights Su-Th and $175 in match play. I may book that too. Stay at Harrah's Wed-Sat and then Venentian Su-Tu.
