Can you get money from the cashier using your own personal check? I have gone to the atm and withdrew without using my pin. Essentially, you are writing a check through your card, paying huge fees.

I do it at Hard Rock all the time for up to $5k thru the Certigy (sp?) system and there's no fee. I get the feeing that Certigy is some kind of subscription service that many of the properties belong to. I don't even have to give ' em a check anymore... Just my ID.

I have heard there is a limit on the number of times you can do this on a trip. It may be something like once a day or once every few days. Just something to keep it mind if you were planning on doing a bunch of small transactions for some reason.

there's Certigy, which has limits, usually very small unless you've used them a lot. the other option is putting a check on board, which is similar to a marker account. they take your check and you can pull markers from it. you have to get that approved though.

Certegy is a fine service but the amount is pretty low. I can only get out $500 every 10 days. I've asked many times to get that amount raised and I've gone from $400 to $450 to $500. I don't know what criteria they are looking for but I must not have it. I've got a 790 credit score with not a single late payment/bounced check or anything. I don't write checks so that could be the case nor do I keep more then a few thousand in that account.

I believe if you're platinum/diamond with CET there is no fee. MGM (at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi is the only place I've used it) charges $4 despite being platinum. It is nice to use cause once you're set up all you have to do is show your ID and players card. I set it up at the Rio and its worked at every CET property I've gone to in Mississippi, Nevada, and Iowa plus the Beau Rivage. I would imagine that it would work at any other chain/casino that used the Certegy system.

I've never cashed a check above $1,000, but the cashier tells me I'm good up to $5,000... I've also never done it more than once per visit.

Weird. I don't typically take more than $1500 a day or so with me so $5000 would be fine. I suppose for that amount thats why they offer credit.

they actually didn't charge me the last time. not sure why or why they charged me the first couple of times, but it seems to be waivable. but the amount is paltry. only reason I even bother is just to mess around on some slots or something.

I thought the fee was waved for gold and platinum but that must be in vegas only. You know how the Beau likes to nickel and dime you for everything. Even at $4 is still cheaper then the ATM fee which are becoming insane these days.

Not sure if this is a typo or not, but I thought all ATMs require a PIN.

Either way, using an ATM to get $1,000 with a $5.99 fee is quick, simple and easy.

They process your debit card like a POS transaction and that way you can get around the daily ATM withdrawal limit. Similar to a credit card cash advance but with less insane fees. It's still an insane 10% or so but your band doesn't charge you another 10% or so on the back end.

Not every bank will allow $1000 ATM transactions. The credit union I used to use when I was in college only allowed $400 a day.
