I find it ok enough for surfing but not great by any means. I think the Skype quality would probably be poor.

The three times I stayed at MGM, the wifi was kind of hit and miss, but was never great.

Same as the above two. I had to go in a hallway once to have good enough reception to FaceTime.

It was pretty spotty for me last week. I was in a Spa Suite, and service was terrible on the couch, but okay-ish at the desk. I didn't try in the sleeping area. I also at one point tried plugging my laptop into the ethernet port at the desk, and either I was doing something wrong or the port wasn't working.

Agreed, when I was there I did Facetime for a few minutes, it worked, but don't expect it to be perfect, but yea it's not super fast Wifi or anything.

I did notice at Mandalay Bay, I think I was in the Events Center and there was an option to purchase faster wifi. I don't recall if that was the case in the rooms.

Just got back from the MGM and the room wifi was meh....ok at best.

Tip if you want to Skype.........try the poker room it has its own wifi and it was super fast and always available with no scaling or problems during a video chat. Spent a few minutes between games catching up with family etc.

Do the rooms have wired LAN ports?

I don't recall if we used the wired lan or wifi primarily, but I recall my husband complaining and even calling down to the FD once when we had no service for either.

There was a card that stated they were upgrading the service and to expect outages. That might or might not have been the issue.

It was rather slow and even with the resort fee we would have had to pay for faster service.

We were in a newly remodeled grand king and I didn't remember seeing it,........... but I tend to miss some of the finer details of things after a trip to vegas too

They do, in the media panel that the various resorts' renovated rooms have, but they didn't seem to be working. I tried plugging in my laptop after getting frustrated with the wifi, but it didn't do anything (my computer didn't acknowledge even connecting to a network, let alone getting to the internet).

I had the same result a few weeks ago. Since the resort fee includes LAN access you could call support but I was too lazy.

    Shoddy

I stayed in one of the renovated Tower Grand King rooms last month. The wifi would drop every 5-10 minutes with light web surfing, so I complained about it at checkout. The staff seemed to know this was a common problem, and they refunded the resort fee (for each day of the trip) without much fuss.
