Is the famous Las Vegas sign walkable? We are in our twenties and will be walking a lot. I found an old thread that said you will have to run across the highway? Thanks.

its in the middle of 6 lanes on Las Vegas Blvd. plenty of space were you can take pictures without any danger , plenty of space , you just have to hurry because of traffic , maybe there wont be that much traffic.

If by walk able you mean safe, during the day you shouldn't have any issues walking in that area. It is a ways down past Mandalay Bay, and it is right in the middle of Las Vegas BLVD, so you will have to cross with out a cross walk.

Its a little under a mile from Mandalay Bay. Yes it is walkable, but yet like previous poster said, it is in the middle of a very busy road. from what I see, I think that walking on the east side will be a little easier to get a cross, but also depends on the time of day.

check the traffic conditions for yourself here

I see people cross the street from time to time, but I would imagine one day I will tune and see one or more of them getting picked up by an ambulance

Haha, thanks. The cam is awesome.

I'm stuck on what to do, it's my girlfriends first trip to Vegas and she has showed interest in seeing this.

Yup, that was what I was leaning on. Is there a parking lot there now? Would I be able to call and order one to pick us up to take us back?

no, but there's not much to see there. hop out, take some pictures, hop back in. unless you're going to stop for a picnic...

there are also buses that go past the sign. here is a map of bus routes in vegas:

    http://www.rtcsnv.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/SystemMapWebjuly2013.pdf

it appears the SDX passes the sign to and from the north strip. possibly the deuce also but I am not sure, hope that someone can confirm the bus passes the sign.

as others mentioned, while it isn't very far to walk to the sign there are other factors, weather (esp summer heat or winter cold), time of day, etc. there isn't much to see when walking from MB to the sign so IMHO nothing really special along the way. best to take a cab or bus IMHO.

My first time there I walked it. I wished I didn't afterwards. A *lot* of walking for 30 seconds of taking a picture. We actually hailed a cab to get us back.

With that said, do get a cab to go get the picture. It is a classic "I went to Vegas" pic.
