Talk about kicking a guy when he is down. They discovered a 3cm tumor on my oldest brother's brain and he is going in for surgery today. A six inch incision behind his ear and then they are going to drill a "quarter" size hole in his skull to try and remove it.

In prep for the surgery they did a chest xray to make sure his heart was healthy and they noticed some spots on his lungs. They then did a CAT scan and he also has lung cancer.

I don't need any thoughts and prayers are with you replies. I'm in the Bill Maher fan club.

My only point is enjoy life while you are able. You never know when this sh*t will happen to you.:poke:

I am a firm believer in enjoying life while we can.

I am very sorry to hear that and like it or not, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

And apt reminder, Joe. As Zevon said, "Enjoy that sandwich."

I'll not be asking for ethereal intervention or guidance any of that stuff, Joe. As you know, we're both kinda skeptical that way. Live life well. Leave good memories. Be kind to people.

Be strong, my friend. Tip a glass in your bro's honor.

Snaps you back to reality when you hear stuff like this.

Somehow my little aches and problems dont mean much compared to guys like your brother. My best wishes to him.

I never take my health for granted.

I tell myself that there are so many people that would appreciate the health I have.

Sound advice from Joe. It sucks it takes a unfortunate event like this for us to be reminded to enjoy life.

So very sorry Joe. We just had the same thing happen to my 50 yr old cousin just after he lost his father & got his wife thru breast cancer. It just all seems too much at times. Our family is trying to make each day special for him as I'm sure your family is doing for your brother also. I'll be thinking of your family as our paths are much the same now. Take care.

We never know when we will get seriously ill

I recently met a man in his 60's who found out he had three cancerous tumors
in his neck. He had surgery and he looks okay but my heart went out to him.
I wanted to take care of him and let him rest in one of my bedrooms instead
of having to keep on working in construction.
My brother worked in construction and he died of a cancer in his throat so this
man reminded me of my brother.

He is married and has two adult daughters so I know they are trying to take good
care of him. But I have noticed that there are some people that get cancer but want to keep on working even if they are seriously ill. I leave him in God's hands
    and I pray for him.

Joe, you are so right that we have to enjoy our lives as much as we can.
We all have a future and we never know how long we have to enjoy our lives.
I am presently enjoying myself as much as I can and doing what pleases me.
I am also thoughtful of others who have less than I do and I am very generous with my time and money to help others. It gives me joy to help others the way some people have helped me. That is my present life. LucyR.

Damn man that sucks big time. Losing majority of my 20s and finally getting rid of my colon last year at the ripe age of 33, I understand the last statement too well. I'll send some positive vibes his way!

Agree with your philosophy. Appreciate what you have and enjoy it while you can.

    Update

The surgery took 5 hours and he is now in ICU breathing on his own!
The surgeon believes he got all of the tumor but...thinks the cancer might be metastasizing from another part of the body. If it is from the lungs, they have a plan to treat that. If somewhere else, who knows...They are going to give him a full body CAT scan as soon as he is out of ICU.

My brother is 75 and a tough guy with a positive attitude, so just hoping this all works out!

Thank goodness he has Medicare and supplemental insurance or something like this would bankrupt a family.

    CANCER SUCKS!

Not related, but my life long friend's wife had to be transferred from one hospital to a specialty hospital by ambulance. The trip was 34 miles. Ambulance cost $2,100. Healthcare in this country is screwed up.

I'm proud of this fact about my friend. We met 55 years ago (1st grade) and have been best friends ever since. We don't get together as much as we would like, but I think 55 years and counting is an accomplishment! We see each other 2-3 times a year and a few phone chats. He doesn't use a computer.

Glad to hear he's doing well!!
Just had this conversation not to long ago with my wife. Most people in my family live pretty hard lives but manage to live well into their 80's and some into their 90's. Some people say "what if he didn't do this or do that, he might have lived a few more years!" There's comes a point where quality is better than quantity...........Enjoy what you have while it's here!

I hope to have friends like that when I get older. I have 2 friends right now that I met in middle school and have been good friends with ever since, a good 15+ years. The one we still go out and have beers together on a weekly basis. The other I don't get to see as much, maybe once ever month or 2.
