Circus Circus - Why all the hate?

Although I've never stepped foot in Circus Circus (just never got around to it), I've often wondered the same thing. I see a bias happen with other properties and sometimes think there may be no truth to all the hate for other places too.

 

My personal feelings aside I think you find so much vocal hatred because it brings out groups of very vocal haters:

1. The anti-"kids in vegas" crowd are going to jump on the band wagon pretty quick.

2. the anti low budget crowd or those who like to dog low rollers will also pile on.

3. And as if that weren't enough the clown-phobes are going to REALLY hate the place! That giant sign is like something out of a nightmare for my wife!

Personally I just find it everything I go to Vegas to get away from. Over-run with kids and kid type activities and It's got a gritty, carnival, low budget kinda feel to me. I wouldn't hate on anybody who goes there, but I would go out of my way to warn anyone who is thinking about staying there lest they go in without the facts and find themselves as dissapointed as I would be.

 

I think the dank and dingy casino does it for me. Plus the few times I have went there are kids everywhere and there were stressed out parents with them. It was not a fun atmosphere.

 

While I don't think I would stay there, I find it interesting and quirky.

 

it was indeed my self Sonya that asked why all the hate with Circus Circus. As i said in the previous threat i stayed at CC lasy year which was my 1st time in Vegas so as of yet i have nothing to compare it to. Thatll change when i go to the Mirage in November

 

I have had friends stay there in my younger days. The rooms are old and dingy. My friends wanted a late checkout and were denied. The casino was okay when I was a broke college kid. I ventured over to their sister property slots of fun and had my Nextel brick phone stolen. I received little help from security. I think a vegas virgin might enjoy it if they were young and broke. I once went to vegas without anywhere to stay and opted for the Sahara.

 

Dont like the kids and the location

 

LOL I didn't think of the "Clown Phobes" aspect, but I bet that really is part of it for some!

Another thing I hadn't thought of was the kids aspect. Like I said, I've never had the time to even stroll through the casino, but are the kids running around the casino as well? Or are they mostly around the AdventureDome area?

 

I have always enjoyed playing there and at Slotsafun. I admit I have never stayed in the hotel. I find some older/different slots there than elsewhere on the strip. I sometimes wonder if "some" of the haters have ever stepped foot in the place. I notice on all the boards even posters with few posts will dog on CC, Quad...and a few others just to join the bandwagon...I think.

Personally, if I don't care for a place I don't comment on it. We all have our own likes/dislikes.

 

For me, it's a few things:
1. The last 2 or 3 times I went in there, there was a large (and I mean a lot...dozens) contingent of young black guys dressed as though they were gang-bangers. I have no racial issues, but that particular vibe is not something I'm comfortable with.
2. During the last of those visits, I was barred from playing blackjack. Yes, I was counting, but I never once bet more than the table minimum. They did it because I called them on their shuffling - even after just one hand - anytime the count went positive.
3. The dealers and cocktail waitresses really seemed miserable... and it showed in their demeanor toward gamblers.

Now, to be fair, this was back in the early 2000s...it may be quite better since then - I wouldn't know, as I've never been back since about 2003 - that last visit when I was barred from blackjack.

In the 90s, it was a fun addition to that mini-circuit which existed back then. We'd make the rounds from Stardust, to Westward Ho, to Circus, to the Riv and every now & then to the 'New' Frontier, (always enjoyed crossing the perpetual picket-line!), and then start all over again.

Not sure when it happened, but it stopped being "fun", even before they stopped my blackjack play...but not too much before. It was definitely something that happened in 2000 or 2001, if I'm recalling correctly.

 

Same here. I often see the same user names railing against certain businesses on various websites and wonder if they've actually been there to form an opinion.

 

It was the first place in Vegas to comp us rooms, so it holds a soft spot in my heart, but that was late 70s. The circus act overhead was always a cute touch and we loved The Steak House, still do.

No hate here, but you just move on. I would sooner gamble at Slots of Fun than CC and there were just too many kids moving through the casino. I read here somewhere that SOF got rid of the crap table that was almost out on the sidewalk. That was my favorite spot to play craps on the strip.

Our rooms were always clean and roomy. Crap, we stayed in the old Stardust motel rooms, I forget what they called that, but it was a sh*t hole compared to CC rooms.

 

I have never stayed there, and do not have an opinion one way or the other. It was one of my grandparents favorite places back in the 70's and 80's because it had the RV park that they like to stay at in their travel trailer.

A coworker of mine took his family last year and stayed for a few nights while also making a Grand Canyon trip, and they enjoyed it with their kids.

 

We used to call them "the barracks". And you're right. Nothing says "Vegas" like cinder-blocks for walls.

...but I only stayed in them one time...$19 a night... after that, I paid the little bit extra and stayed in "the tower" (which they didn't really have yet, but it was an actual 'hotel'...with 'floors' and elevators!)

 

I agree. I would include myself in the "anti low roller" crowd, however I have no issues with CC. My wife and I wandered down there on our last trip in June, and had a good time.

 

My husband wanted to check out CC on our first trip to Vegas It wasn't "BAD" but it wasn't anywhere I wanted to be on vacation either. It felt worn out and was overly crowded. It was probably nice in it's day, but now it isn't even as nice as our local casinos. We spent a few minutes playing and then decided to leave. We didn't even use or comp meal.

I'm not bashing CC but it's just not my cup of tea; I want someplace that feels a bit more upscale for a vacation.

It's just that there's so many other great, quality options in town... time and money have passed this property by. I look forward to the re-opening of The Sahara (SLS) and the new mega-billion $$$ joint where the Stardust once stood. Perhaps it will then be attractive to reinvest dollars back into CC and The Riviera will make a comeback. I'd love to see a clean, well-developed and profitable walk from Encore to Stardust... one day.

 

When me and my lady stayed at CC on our first trip We loved it. Over time ofcourse we stayed at difference places and realized we could get more out of a hotel for the same price (sometimes even cheaper).

Stayed at their 2nd tier rooms all the way up to their 2nd to last tier rooms. We had no issues with "kids screaming"

all that being said i dont think we will be staying there anymore. Thanks to our vegas connection and El Cortez Cabana we love having a fridge

i wont ever say CC sucks because we still go back to play.

and I'll always recommend CC to 1st timers that just want a cheap room.
