So I just came into a sum of money from winning a sweepstakes. I am putting most of it away, but want to use a small portion of it to live a little.

I would like to spend 2 weeks in Vegas, and take my girlfriend. Only problem is I'm 20 and she is 19, so we can't use the casinos since we're not 21. Further, we want to stay at the Circus Circus due to their low rates among other things, but it has a minimum check in age of 21.

But, here is our plan: My buddy is 21, and he looks VERY much like me. I have used his ID to buy alcohol before with no problem. He said he would let me borrow his ID.

Likewise, my girlfriend has a 22 year old cousin who looks almost identical to her, who will loan her her ID.

I can also get my friends old bank card, just in case the hotel or casino ever requires two forms of ID (When 2 forms of ID are required, your driver's license and a credit/debit card with your name and an expiration date are pretty much always acceptable.)

Then we can use my friend's and her cousin's IDS, claiming we are 21 and 22, to check into the hotel, use the casino, and on the off chance we happen to win anything in the casino, have the acceptable identification documents to cash out.

In short, for hotel check-in, casino access, etc, it would seem one doesn't actually have to be 21, as long as they can access the id of someone who looks like them and is 21.

Could we pull this off, or is there anything preventing it from working?

Also, a followup question, what's the worst we'd be facing if Circus Circus somehow found out two of their guests aren't who they say they are, and are under 21? It's not technically illegal to lie to a hotel is it?

So worst case scenario, would they just boot us from the hotel, and we just walk down the strip and check into another one?

You have to pay a deposit for most rooms in Vegas, which may require a credit card. Is your friend going to allow you to swipe his debit/card to pay for this deposit? If not, how are you going to respond if the clerk asks you why the name on your credit card does not match the name on your ID?

If you do follow through with this plan, I highly recommend AGAINST trying to use your fake ID's at nightclubs in Vegas. The Vegas bouncers are the best in the business at spotting fakes, and you may get your ID taken away (they wouldn't let my friend in that had a real ID once because he looked so much different than this picture).

My advice to you is stay at a hotel just off the strip that doesn't require you to be 21, which will allow you to use your real identification and credit cards to check in. Then you can just go the strip to walk around, hop from casino to casino and use your fake IDs if you get carded. Either way, Vegas is tough on fake IDs, so I would be careful where and how you use them.

On an unrelated note, the Circus Circus is a dump and would not be fun for your age group, so I don't think its worth risking your IDs getting taken away right when you check in. Stay somewhere else that does not have a casino onsite so you can check in with your real IDs. Try the Jockey Club suites, they are right on the strip.

For some reason, I want to see a pic of you guys and a pic of the Ids. I know you cant/wont do this but security is trained for this type of thing. I wouldnt risk getting kicked out of any hotels, casinos, bars, or possibly arrested.

checking into the hotel and gambling are two entirely different beasts. the check-in clerk will take a passing look at your ID and if it looks OK, you'll be fine and they'll never know a thing.

now if you want to actually gamble, that's very different - and very illegal. if you want to play tables, you'll likely get ID'd by the pit boss and possibly multiple times by different staff. they will actually look at your ID, so if there's any chance that they will think the picture is not you, you're screwed. if you get caught they will kick you out of the casino and may arrest you, although that's unlikely.

as far as slots, that's a bit safer, but you still may be asked for ID by passing security. same situation with the table games if they catch you. also, if you hit a handpay, they will take your ID and ask for your SSN. you can refuse to give them the SSN and then they will take out 25% withholding. but if they suspect that the ID isn't yours, they have every right not to pay you - and kick you out.

the bottom line is this isn't Vegas Vacation and you're not Mr. Papageorgio. they take the gambling age very seriously and will do everything they can to prevent you from playing and especially prevent you from winning if you're not of age.

I agree with the others, Vegas is probably not the best option for you and your gf. If you really want to take a gambling vacation, you may have options in the Caribbean that have 18 and over gambling. I am not sure on this, but you could check the Bahamas or Puerto Rico maybe. It's not the same as Vegas, but you may not have to pretend that you are someone else.

Put your money into a savings account, gathering interest, and add to it for two years and enjoy Vegas when you're supposed to.

I contacted the Circus Circus to ask this exact question actually, and was told that a credit card is only required for a reservation, but if we just show up and ask for a room we can pay cash.

We are not completely set on the Circus Circus tbh, but we are looking for a hotel with low enough rates to stay within budget, as we want to limit the hotel costs and have more money for other things.

However we want to truly experience Vegas (As well as know we are safe walking around at all times) and for both experience and safety, the strip seems to provide that, so we aren't willing to compromise staying on the strip, not having a casino in the hotel.

Also on a side note, if we did go with a different strip hotel that required a security deposit, don't they accept a security deposit in cash, for however much they would reserve on your credit card? I mean, for security deposits, they don't put a hold on your entire spending limit do they?

I could but I won't. Reason being I don't have any assurance you won't forward it to the Circus Circus.

To answer your question though, here's what I can tell you: My current ID has my pic from a year ago. I had a beard, wore glasses. Now I have lost 25 pounds, and am cleancut and have contacts.

That being the case, my FREINDS driver's license actually looks more like me than my REAL license does.

And yet my real license just got me through TSA on a flight a few weeks ago with no problem.

As far as my gf, she looks so much like her cousin that they are practically twins.

I recognize that Vegas are the best in the world for spotting fake IDs as far as civilians go, but I wouldn't think they are any better than National Security, are they?

And I use "fake" loosely because the ID is very much real, just belongs to someone else.

I would say don't start your history with Vegas off with having to tell people stories of how you visited underage and "It sounded like a good idea at the time..."

Wait until you're 21 and do Vegas right. You'll have happier memories.

I appreciate your input, but it would seem that everything you just said is an answer of "Yes" to my OP question of "So worst case scenario they kick us out of the hotel, and we just walk down the strip and check into another one, right?"

LOL. That's like saying it would seem you could drive drunk as long as you don't get caught.

Good luck if you decide to go through with it, just be sure to write a trip report when you get back! :evillaugh

No, worst case scenario is that both you, and possibly the person who gave you the ID, could be subject to arrest. As an example:

    http://elkodaily.com/news/fake-id-tips-off-casino-leads-to-arrest/article_cc7ba8fa-9040-11e2-b997-001a4bcf887a.html

Even if the ID is real, and you're not in "possession of a forged instrument", you could still hit identity theft, as well as things like providing false information to an officer. According to the internet (I honestly don't have the time to track down code citations, so take this for what it's worth), if you're using it to gamble or obtain alcohol, then it's only a misdemeanor, but you could nonetheless be looking at a $1k fine and up to six months in jail.

I'm not your lawyer, and this isn't legal advice, but I'd listen to the people here telling you that this is a bad idea.

EDIT: Yeah, looks like you could indeed hit identity theft: http://www.criminaldefenselawyer.com/resources/criminal-defense/crime-penalties/penalties-in-nevada-for-an-identity-theft-convic

The issue is that you're using someone else's identification for purposes of committing a crime (i.e., gambling and/or obtaining alcohol while underage). I definitely do not practice criminal law, let alone in Nevada, so again don't rely wholeheartedly on what I'm saying, but I don't think it's unreasonable to read this as at least a possibility.

You sound like the kind of client the casinos are looking for. If you should be a loser at the tables you can surely figure a way to get back to even. Worst case scenario. You won a sweepstakes. Why go cheap with CC? Go out with a bang!!!

And lest we forget, there are ways that this can come up even outside the context of just getting caught gambling/drinking underage. What if you get sick, robbed, hit by a bus, etc.? Are you going to have your own ID on you as well if you have to be admitted to the hospital or fill out a police report, or are you planning on traveling only with your friend's ID? If it's the former, then you're screwed, and if it's the latter, both you and probably your friend are screwed.

I think you're pretty set on doing this so doubtful anyone can talk you out of it.

If I were in your shoes, I would stay at the Palms and memorize the SSN and address of whomevers ID you and your gf plan on using and have one of their valid CCs as well. You can hash out the tax details with them later incase you hit a jackpot.

Personally Id never trust my friend with all that stuff especially in Vegas but to each their own. I've been burned before. Best of luck and have a great time. :drunk:
