    My Trip Report

We go to our local riverboat about twice a week. Always on Tuesday or Thursdays for the free liquor in the DL. We went tonite to use my free play that I am sent for about every-other day....small amounts and don't always use all of them.

    But tonite......
There was a lady playing the penny Sun & Moon slots tonite at the boat that has left me scratching my head..... She was playing side-by-side machines at $5 level on both machines about as fast as they can be played. She was playing $10 total about every 30 seconds unless a bonus was running. When I got there, she had $200 in one and about $300 in the other....when a machine went below $100....she got in her purse and pulled out a bank withdrawal envelope containing $100 bills and would put $400-500 in that machine. (Saw at least $1500 go in while I watched) In about 40 minutes, I only saw her win over $100 a couple of times. WHY would anyone feed over $1500 in penny machines when the payoffs are small. Why not go to a $5 or $10 machine that could really pay a large amount. Oh, she was knocking down the screwdrivers pretty fast too!! LOL

At max bet, the payoffs aren't always small. Myself I have hit at $6K and $3K jackpot on pennys. However most of the time they are few and far between. At Sun and Moon I am guessing you would have to hit 100 free spins to get your money back.

Table players ask the same question, why would people play slots, when there is such a disadvantage in odd's vs table games. To each his own, personally I would not put that much thru a machine with the payback that penny's have. She could have bumped up the .25 cent level and play less lines and possibly higher return / comp earnings.

HSI has gone way downhill in my book, since they re-themed a couple of years ago. When I go to places like the new one in Cincy or Gary Indiana it makes me think I will never set foot in these other riverboats. Not to mention the smoking and poor ventilation in HSI.

my cousin works there and hates it plus he isnt allowed to gamble there even though he just does maintenance and doesnt get any discounts at the property.

that lady would get the highest comps playing penny machines for high limits and the way she was playing them means that she is addicted. i know a lady that lost her entire savingss and her house in less then two years after her husband died because she became addicted to high limit penny slots. :nono:

I've had some really nice wins on penny slots but my real point is at $5 a clip on 2 machines as fast as she could push the button....with only small returns...the $$ was going fast....why continue to feed those particular machines. I would have given up before dropping over $1500. I would have tried my luck at some $1 machines that are known to pay off regularly for $1000 or more each time. Just my opinion though..... :)

The problem with this scenario is that Sun and Moon isn't designed to hit big, it's designed to hit frequently. When you play them often, the odds of getting the 50 games aren't bad. But if the game is not hitting, it's silly to keep reloading it like that because you aren't going to get that big hit to recoup it all.

She is either uneducated or just doesnt care. I play the penny machines sometimes. My excuse is I like the sounds and colors like a 4yr old.
