    My Trip Report

Hi all. My DH and I went to Las Vegas May 4 - 7.

We had previously stayed at the Mirage in Sept. 2010 and had met a host from close to my hometown in NY. We contacted him and he was able to hook us up with comped rooms for three nights. We were met at the airport my Mirage Limo transportation. (Very nice, but a little outdated). Upon arrival at the Mirage, we were met by our own bellman (who knew our names) (very nice and personal touch by the Mirage) and escorted to the VIP Check In. We were given a room on the 24th floor, which we loved because of the express elevators. It was available upon arrival at 10:00 am which was awesome so we could freshen up and unpack.
Room: Nice. Inspected for bedbugs and was clean!!! Our view was of the mountains and very nice. I would have preferred a strip view but did not ask for one. We did not spend a lot of time there.

We were not aware that we would receive all these nice personal touches, which made our arrival very nice. We have previously stayed at the Mirage but did not receive the VIP treatment. The VIP check in area is very nice and stocks coffee, beer, soda and water at all times. My husband loved this as he was able to go get coffee in the mornings and grab a beer before leaving the hotel for various activities.

May 4th - After arrival we hung around, played and went to BLT for a quick bite. It was Derby Day and the casino was extremely crowded waiting for the race. Great burgers and good shakes at BLT. We then went to the Elton John concert for my birthday. Great show, but I will never book another show for the night of arrival. We travel from NY and between the plane ride and time diff, we were exhausted. Afterwards we went back to hotel to sleep.

May 5th - We walked to the MGM Grand for the buffet breakfast, which I received for MYVegas comps !! Was pretty good. Very long walk!!, and with the construction on the sidewalks of the strip was sometimes hard to navigage. The buffet was good for the price (free!). We then went casino hopping and just sight seeing. We love the different hotels and seeing any changes. We were tourists for the day and just enjoyed perusing and drinking. I have to be honest, I don't think we ate dinner that night because we were drinking all day and were just a little tipsy. We went to the Lobby Bar for a couple of hours just to chill and had a good time. The bartender (Tom) was great. I had purchased a coupon off of groupon for buy three drinks get three free (I think that's how many) and we drank those plus a couple more. (LOL). I normally don't drink a lot at home because of my children, so when we go away, all bets are off!! We had fun just people watching and hanging out with some people we met there.

May 6th - We had booked massages for the morning. My massage was actually a wrap called the blueberry bliss. I usually like this type, but was not overly impressed with this one. I will go back to normal massages. My husband gets a 50 minute massage with a facial. He absolutely loved it. I do like the spa at the Mirage. The people are very nice and accommodating. I do not like to talk during my spa experience and thankfully, I did not have an overtalkative therapist that day. (I have in the past). After massages, we went to the Carnagie Deli for breakfast. WOW. The amount of food you receive in this place is overwhelming. The portions are huge.
We went to the aquarium for the Shark Reef (free from my vegas). Never again. First of all, I felt like I walked 10000 miles just to get to the reef in the hotel. Not worth it. My husband was laughing at me the whole time. I felt like I wasted an hour of my life. We spent most of the day partaking in alcoholic beverages and gambling.
We went to Onda for dinner. It really good meal and a very nice restaurant. The service was wonderful. Afterwards we walked to Bellagio for the fountains and to see the Volcanoes outside Mirage. (I love that stuff).

We are in our early 40s and do not do the night clubs. We did go to the Rhumbar late one afternoon and had a nice time. I was surprised by the hooka (sp?) menu there. But people seemed to enjoy. The bartender there was wonderful and attentive. She asked our names immediately and remembered them the whole time. We flip-flopped from the outside bar to the inside bar a few times and just had a good time.

We had an awesome time in Las Vegas. I like to play slots and roulette and my DH likes to play blackjack. He plays slots just to hang out with me. I love to sight see there. We love the frozen drink bars and Rhumbar at Mirage. There is a bar upstairs at NY NY which makes great drinks also. We found the service at the slots to be a little light. There were not enough waitresses. The service is better at night. The casino is very nice. I like the smaller casinos when we travel just the two of us. Easier to find each other. They were still building the new steak house so that area was under construction. The new Sports book is very nice.

May 7. I went to the concierge desk and they were able to print our boarding passes back to JFK. Our flight was at 2:00 p.m. so we just hung around the Mirage and played slots all morning. My husband hit a jackpot for around $1500 before leaving which was awesome!! I did not fair as well :(. Our host had arranged for a late check out and transportation back to the airport. We were not even able to hook up with him at all to say thank you. We did go to the Casino Host area to see what they would take off our bill as we charge everything to the room. They were able to take care of most of our food and beverage. Not the spa charges. I believe we ended up paying about $400 for our trip (plus airfare and trans from our house to JFK). Not bad!! We have found in the past to charge everything and see what they will cover. We always ask as you never know. We left there with having a great time and a nice little get away from everyday life!

Since it had been over two years since our last trip, I had no rating. I leveled up to a Gold member during our trip. We have airline miles that have to be rebooked by Dec 26. I recently received an offer from Mirage for a comped suite, freeplay, casino credit for food and bev, limo and tickets to love. So we rebooked our airfare at no charge and are heading back Nov 2 for three nights. I know there are nicer hotels and bigger casinos, but I love the Mirage. I have stayed there 4 times and have always had a great experience. Whether or not we are treated to the VIP area, we have always found the staff to be very attentive. The dealers, front desk, waitresses, bartenders, etc. They are always on top of their games. Our experience was great and I can't wait until November for our next trip. We normally would wait two years in-between but, with basically just our spending money we figured what the hell!! See you in November!!!

Sounds like you were well taken care of by the Mirage. Congrats to your husband on the exit win and to you both for having a November t-time.

Thanks for the very nice trip report. The Mirage is nice. My tentative plans are to stay there over the Thanksgiving holiday. Sounds like you have a great host.

Yes it was!! I thought I had read that it was closing down, but was still open in May. I like the frozen "girlie" drinks. LOL.
