Have you ever gotten to the airport only to find that you didn't have your ID?

Also, the bit about whacking Macker is just a joke; I have a $50 freeplay at Bally's so I figure I'll suss him out and give the leg a good whack...

I can honestly say that's never happened to me. I just feel naked without my wallet in my pocket, so it would never be possible.

Flew from Philly to New Orleans in April and somehow left my DL at the Philly airport. Not sure if it was TSA, gate agent, US Air club or whatever but I was clearly not paying clos enough attention.
Fortunately I had my passport with me but it's a pain to use that for ID everywhere you go.

That gets packed the night before to avoid such a scenario.

Now I have miscalculated the time to leave from the house to get to the airport. Instead of leaving and making it to the airport with plenty of time to spare we left the house at the time I calculated we would arrive at the airport.:eek:

Luckily my wife didn't figure out the miscalculation and luckily she was driving as we still made it. Right when we got to the gate they just started boarding.

One time my neighbor called me from out of town saying that her husband's wallet was still at their house. Somehow he had talked himself through security and onto the plane, but they told him he had better find a way to get it if he wants to get on a return flight home. Made no sense to me, but, whatever...

I had to go over and hunt through his gym bag and find his wallet and FedEx it to him. They made it home without incident. :)

Almost happened to me. Stopped at a strip mall on the way to airport to exchange a new pair of walking shoes. Was almost out of the parking lot and back on the freeway when I remembered they took my ID for return (this was many years ago). Went right back to the store and thank God, as it was closing time and I had to actually knock on the door to get back in to get it.........whew!

Lol, you're right, sorry. Just got back Thursday, so all the Vegas hadn't quite worked out of my system. The stay itself was nothing out of the ordinary, 5 nights at Aria, 5 nights at Caesars, had a great time, did really well gambling (ie. my total loss for the trip was only about 20% of what it normally was - feels like a free trip to me).

So the license story timeline -
    • 6:00am flight MHT -> MDW -> LAS. Arranged for Presidential to pick me up at LAS at 10:00am scheduled arrival.
    • 4:30am, get to MHT, park in the garage. The night before a trip, I always stick my license in an envelope with my flight and hotel reservations and a fiver for the curbside check-in guys, so I don't have to fumble around.
    • 4:31am, get out of the car, grab the envelope out of a tote bag. No license.
    • 4:32am, almost puke.
    • 4:33am - 4:50am, turn the car upside down looking for my license, nope.
    • 4:50am - 4:55am, walk halfway across the bridge to the terminal thinking I'll find out if there's some way around this problem, stop and realize there isn't. I'm gonna have to get a duplicate license.
    • 4:55am, head home, it's about an hour drive
    • 5:25am, realize I need to get onto the Southwest website by 5:50am and change or cancel my flight.
    • 5:45am, walk in the door at home, go on the Southwest site and change my flight to 1:40pm. Only ticket left is Business Select; costs me an additional $300.
    • 6:00am - On the Registry of Motor Vehicles site finding out what IDs I'll need to get a duplicate license. Grab as many of them as I can find.
    • 6:45am - pull up to the Registry office, which opens at 9:00am. There's already one guy there. I just sit in my car listening to the radio, stressing out.
    • 8:00am, there's now 10 people in line, I get out of my car, go over to Dunkin Donuts to take a piss, then get in line. From listening to the conversations, I guess a lot of people are there for hearings for shit that happened over the weekend, or whatever.
    • 9:00am, doors open, I go in, lady give me a form to fill out, says I don't have to wait again, I say "I'll be able to walk out of here with a duplicate, right?" "Yep"
    • 9:05am, my number gets called, lady has trouble bringing me up on the computer. Gets it sorted, give me an eye test, lol, prints out a license. I thought it would be an exact duplicate (ie. a card). Nope, it's a piece of paper with my picture on it, and also these words in a nice red banner "NOT VALID FOR IDENTIFICATION". FUCK!
    • 9:10am - What do I have to lose? I head for MHT.
    • 10:15am - In the garage again at MHT. Before I take my stuff out of the car, I go down to where I had parked earlier and look around underneath cars looking for my license. Nope. Head into the terminal and find a TSA guy and give him the brief story, show him my temporary license and ask him if it's good. He says as long as I have some other form of ID, they'll take it. Whew.
    • 10:30am - grab my stuff, check it in, go up to security, look for the guy I talked to earlier and make sure I go through the line he's in. He did kind of keep an eye on me in case anything went wrong.
    • 10:45am - call Presidential ask them to reschedule my pickup. No problem.
    • 2:00pm, wheels up. The extra $300 on the plane ticket also scored me A1 on the connecting flight at MDW, so I got the golden seat.
    • 6:00pm, land at LAS, go out for a smoke, guy from Presidential was there. They gave me a stretch instead of a sedan, no problem.
    • 7:00pm, walk into Aria, check in at the VIP line, kid's not sure about my license, has to check with his manager, comes back a couple of minutes later and checks me in, gives me a free fridge (yay). Says "I'm able to check you in with this, but they won't take it at the casino..." Great. I'm in Vegas for 10 nights and won't be able to get rated?
    • 7:15pm, go to the cage, tell them "I think I have a problem, I wired money a week or so ago, but I blah blah.."you know how sometimes you have to keep repeating the same fucking thing over and over? No problem, she goes and gets the slip for me to sign. Whew again.

After that, I had no problems. Someone ended up finding my license and turned it in at MHT. My new license came in the mail a few days later and I had it express mailed to Caesars and got it the day before I left. And then picked up the original when I got back to MHT. So now I have 3.

    Don't ever lose your license.

About 3 years ago my wife lost her wallet on the way to the airport for our flight to Vegas. She still got on the flight. I don't exactly recall what hoops she had to jump through at the airport, but she got on the flight w/o a DL.

My brother drove us to the airport and found her wallet in his car and mailed it to our hotel for the return trip.

This thread does make a person think how important an id is on a trip to vegas, because it's not just getting on and off the plane - especially if you are staying on a comp where you need id, getting cash at the cage, etc. Most places also want id with your credit card when you pay.

** TIP** Although I have never had to use it, I have a color photocopy (front & back) of my drivers license hidden away in my laptop bag just in case of an emergency. I know it still isn't legal id but may get me out of trouble if I really needed it!

I bring my wallet with my drivers license in it. I also bring my passport, just in case.

One option people should consider is to also get a State non drivers license ID simultaneously when you get your drivers license. It's usually cheaper than the fees for a drivers license and comes in handy in the process of replacing your lost Drivers License and getting by until you are able to replace it.

In Illinois, the drivers license is red and the ID is green.

Glad you were able to enjoy your trip despite the not so pleasant start.

I misplaced my ID at check in once. It was our wedding trip and took me ten minutes of digging to find it in my purse. Hubby has me telling the story on video after we got checked in. Never again will i take the ID from the wallet before check in..LOL

Thanks for finishing the story...when you disappeared after the teaser, I wondered if we should be trying to raise bail for ya, lol. I Gave a group of Vegas newbies heading down for a birthday bash a bunch of Vegas tips a couple of years ago. They had a bast!! Unfortunately I didn't realize I should include "don't have a party in your room and leave your passports in amongst empty chip bags and trash". The room that hosted husband and wife evidently did, so when packing up day of return flight and not finding passports in the safe, they both remembered a drunken discussion about ugly passport photos and taking theirs out to show everyone. Their group left and they had a bonus 2 days in Vegas while getting it all sorted through the Canadian Consulate in Vegas and a complete re-purchase on their return flight with an airline as they were booked on a charter, no changes flight. PHo did take pity and comp the newbies the extra nights though since the maids tossed the passports amongst the trash.
If I leave a half- empty bottle of beer, housekeeping leaves it there until I throw it out. Housekeeping definitely not at fault and even they knew that as they said there was quite a mess of bottles and snack packaging left in their room.
Good thing you only needed a Driver's License!

I Lost my license in the Gaslamp area of San Diego. Walking back from a baseball game I took money out of my pocket to give to a homeless person, and unknowling dropped my license. My husband was SO MAD.. We walked around for hours trying to see if anyone had turned it in, as we didn't know how I was going to get back through security to come home. We called Delta, and they told us what the process would be. Come early, fill out paperwork, be prepared for some questioning etc. Luckily his boss was coming to San Diego - so my daughter took my passport to him, and he brought it out. The nice end to the story is someone mailed me my license :). Now I have two and bring them both. I have my husband keep one in his wallet, and I have the other with me.
