Ive enough points on my BA card to go business class . Im going in November so looked around and also phoned BA to get the best deal .

    1st is what I got online myself . £990 + 75000 points .

2nd is what the guy on the phone offered . £1141 + 25000 points .

BOTH are the same flight and times etc .

Question is what is the best one to go for ???

How much is a flight without using any points?

If you look at it for three flights then you can figure out which will cost you less out of pocket...assume you have only 75000 points.

    ----£990 + 75000 points + Price without using points *2 = Out of pocket cost (£???)

    ----£1141 + 25000 points *3 = £3423 out of pocket

Since the first option uses all of your points the ticket price without using points will need to be less than £1216 each for the first option to be worth it.

There are some assumption here, but that is how I would decide.

Wow you made my head explode there :eek2

This is how I normally choose my ticket . This is the prices I had to work with this year .

The price for economy was £750

The price for Premium economy was £920

The price for business was £3500

These prices were all without using points .

I would never pay for business so that's always out . If I can get prem econ for around 20% extra than an economy ticket then that's what I do .

For me to be able to upgrade these tickets I would have to pay for a flexible reward ticket which was obviously a lot more .

I hope that made sense .

I thought by using all my points up and paying the lowest price would be the best option as I don't really use the points much .

definitely go with the higher price/lower points. 50k points is worth way more than $150. generally points are worth at least 1 cent, so 50k would be $500. better to save those for later and pay the extra $150.

    Higher price and lower points.

Assuming the flight's rack rate is $3500:

990 + 75K points values your points at about 3.3 cents (pence?)

1141 and 25k points values your points at about 9.4 cents (pence)

Yeah that's the info I needed . Didn't work out the price of the points .

BUT I went onto look at the flight prices and availability again and theres only 1 left at this price so ive decided to use all the points and lower price .

I understand whats been said about the points worth but I only really have ever used them for connecting flights from Glasgow to London NOT KNOWING I get FREE connecting flights ! ! ! !

I accumulate about 20,000 points per year so will save them again .

Thanks for the info guys ( and gals if any  )
