I got offers a complimentary weekend at Paris or PH. I've searched already but I just wanted more recent testimonials on differences between the two hotels. I understand that PH is a 4 diamond rated hotel while Paris is a 3 diamond (not sure how much that says).

Where would you all stay if you had a choice between the two?

PH is the "nicer" hotel. But I still wouldn't call it a four star hotel. The rooms were very "meh" to me. Nothing special, and not comparable with MGM property rooms.

PH has the more lively casino, with loud music, scantily clad dealers, and a lot of young d_bags.

Paris has your typical Vegas casino. There's nothing really distinguishing about it at all. The ceiling looks like the sky? That's about it. I've never stayed in a room at Paris but if they truly are a step down from PH, I never want to.

So I'd definitely go with PH for the lively casino and "nicer" rooms.

Both are crappy hotels. Neither is above a three star rating. Think motel 6 circa 1990 and then lower your expectations.

If you're thinking about any other CET brand hotel, Harrahs, Quad, Ballys, etc... start thinking the same thing. They're all alike in so many ways.

Caesars has a tower or two that's nice. Think Super 8 circa 2010.

Stayed at Paris for 5 nights comped and liked it a lot. Mostly because its not crazy busy and/or loud. I also like how the elevators for all towers is next to the checkin and they lead you right into the casino. Walking to the strip takes 45 seconds. I also am staying there next month as well.

I too favor PH over Paris... I don't know why so many on this board refer to the younger crowd as young d bags, but that's why I prefer PH... I like the energy they provide far more than "geezerville" (downtown) and some other strip properties.

I was talking about the rooms, not the casinos. I don't believe an apt description of the rooms at PH is "geared toward young people." My description was of the rooms, obviously.

Both casinos are fine. Think of a nice AMC movie theater and then lower your expectations. That's typically what you can expect from CET casinos.

I haven't stayed at Excalibur or Luxor in many years... but since MGM takes care of their properties, I would expect Luxor and Excalibur rooms to be like a recently built Hampton Inn.

Depends on which travel expert you check, as many websites (including TripAdvisor) rank them as equals.

As you probably know, Paris LV is one of the few places left in Las Vegas that still emphasizes a "theme," so, love it or hate it, you do see plenty of Paris-inspired decorations, French signage and a more than the usual number of French dining options. The Premier and Red Rooms at Paris are actually quite similar to other CET properties nowadays. Only the most basic rooms and the top-tier suites such as Le Mans continue to strongly emphasize a French motif.

Planet Hollywood has been revamped more recently, in part to de-theme it from its days as Aladdin. There's some pop culture memorabilia around, including inside the rooms, but the look and feel is relatively generic. It reminds me of Universal Studios City Walk, actually. If you've stayed at almost any other CET property in the past few years, the furnishings in the PH rooms will look familiar.

Both have good mid-Strip locations, and since they are next to each other, both offer the potential for excellent Strip (and fountain) views. Very good entertainment options are situated at each property, with Jersey Boys at Paris being one of the top 5 shows in Vegas, in my opinion. I think Paris is better for fine dining, but PH has the better coffee shop and quick bite options. Both have good-sized pools, but neither is especially known for it.

I think that CET perceives the target market for Planet Hollywood as younger and hipper, whereas Paris shades older and gets more families. For what it's worth, I've noticed that a fair number of foreign vacationers seem to be drawn to Paris LV.

Whichever place you end up choosing, I would suggest spending some time at the other property too, in preparation of a possible later trip. If you will be there when crowds are light, you might just ask for a look-see inside a typical room at the other property for future reference. You could probably even switch hotels on the fly, if you're so inclined and don't mind the hassle of it.

The OP is trying to judge the difference between a comped stay at two CET properties, so a blanket condemnation of them all is not very helpful. If your point is that PH and Paris are similar in terms of room decor and amenities, that is generally true in the Strip-view options that tend to be assigned to comped players, in my experience.

I enjoy the vibe at Planet Hollywood more that the Paris casino. I wouldn't compare it to any Motel 6 I have ever seen. The one thing I like about PHO is that you can check in and take the elevator to your room without going anywhere near the casino since the casino is one floor up from the lobby. Never have liked pulling a suitcase through the casino.

I have stated before I am not a fan of Paris or CET in general.

That being said, the post misrepresents the actual property including the rooms and will not help any newbies looking for helpful info.

The posts by mdm4sfest and lmondun are accurate.

To add my two cents: I stayed at Paris (strip view Red room) in December, and at Planet Hollywood (strip view Hollywood Hip room) last week. I enjoyed them both. I'm a mild-mannered midwesterner in my 40s, not the PH demographic, but I did not feel out of place. I did more of my gambling at Bally's and Paris--as usual--and they are very close by.

Paris is quieter, but by no means dead (contrary to what some might say). I suppose it depends on when you're there. PH skews younger and livelier, but the real "too cool for school" crowd is across the street at Cosmopolitan. I sensed a pretty wide variety of folks gambling in the casino and staying in the hotel. It was a bit loud, mainly at night, but like I said I was usually gaming elsewhere at that point. It wasn't insanely loud, but louder than (say) Paris or Bally's.

The PH room seemed a bit more dated and "beat up," but it was certainly acceptable. The view was the best I've had--37th floor, I could see from Cosmo to Caesars and back around to Bally's and Paris.

I went in with low expectations and they were exceeded. I would definitely stay at PH again. Paris might still be my preferred option, but just barely, mainly because it's convenient to Bally's and (a bit further, for true low-rolling) Ellis Island.

I also prefer a young crowd that's closer to my own age but there are young crowds and there are young d bag crowds. Based on my one stay at PH I'd agree it has A LOT of the d bag element. Especially the lower end d bags, like midwestern jocks/frat boys that walk around without shirts or in tank tops all over the hotel drinking yard drinks and grunting.

I remember one obnoxious drunk one who was pissed about something and seemingly tried to pick a fight with our entire elevator and when he started going overboard and I stepped to him he backed away. So they're pussies too.

Overall I didn't like PH even though it grew on me after a day or two. It is definitely geared towards that frat boyish type crowd, not the young crowd places like Cosmo, MGM, MB, or Wynn for example attract. If that's you're thing than go for it. The suite and housekeeping service were the shoddiest I experienced in Vegas. Not really bad or anything just clearly inferior. The gaming isn't great. Not bad at higher limits but for example the DD pitch game is H17 while at MGM properties its S17.

The hotel also allows anyone to use their pool. I don't know if this is normal for Vegas hotels but I thought it really diminished the experience for guests and brought in way too many bozos off the street that reminded me of the crowd at the crappiest beaches on the jersey shore. I wrote about some of these issues in the guest survey they sent me and the head of their Diamond services actually reached out to me and offered to personally manage my next stay, and also said she didn't like the pool policy but it is out of their hands. So I give them credit for at least not ignoring guests experiences and for offering to help make things better for you.

Quad is close to what I expect from a random motel 6 though. But the price is ~right.

Maybe it depends on when you stay? Or the time of day? I had a midweek stay in the middle of summer and the crowd did not seem excessively "frat boyish." That would've driven me crazy. As I said, I didn't gamble at PH all that much, but the people at the tables with me included retirees and laid-back Canadians.

Now Cosmo, on the other hand--I think it's a beautiful property but if you don't fit in to the crowd (which I don't), it just doesn't seem like a fun place to stay or gamble.

The people I gambled at the tables with were all great and we often became friends. Even exchanged numbers with one guy in the high limit room who throws a lot of parties in AC. He was middle aged and fairly ugly but had a bunch of hot women friends. It was more the non-gamblers just hanging around the property, at the pool, or staying in the hotel. I'm exaggerating somewhat of course. That was just one element of the crowd, but in my opinion a much more noticeable element than I felt a few days later when we moved to MGM.

I was also there during EDC which may have contributed. But I don't think that crowd is part of the EDC scene. Maybe they are though and I just don't know. Being in my 30s I've stopped paying attention cuz they all just look like kids to me.
