Table Games Craps on the strip

Hi all I am going to Vegas and would like to try my hand at craps. I am very much a novice as I am still learning the game.

What is the cheapest place to play on the strip? And what is the minimum bet on the tables?

During the day you'll find a lot of $5-10 tables. Most of the MGM casinos have an electronic craps game (electronic betting terminal, the dice are big oversized dice in a pop-o-matic style bubble) that goes from $2.50-5.00 minimums (depends on the casino).

Many casinos also offer free gaming lessons (usually in the morning) where you can learn to play with other players. These'll start off as instructional tables but then become live, usually with low limits, once the lesson is over.

The instructions are a good way to start: they won't necessarily explain whats the best way to bet, IE: what has the best house edge and things like that, but will cover things like how to buy in, how to bet, how to cash out, what you can and can't do, etc

 

$5 is pretty much it, but believe there "may" be a place or two on the strip that does less. If not, off strip or down town would have it but really not worth hunting for a table that is $3.

Take a free lesson then just slow play until comfortable. Be forewarned it won't be long before you get hooked.

 

Thanks $5 would be fine. All I plan to bet on is the basic pass Line bet.

 

You can usually find a $5 game mornings on the Strip at Excalibur, Hooters, Tropicana, Monte Carlo, PHo, and Ballys. I've seen it a couple times first thing during weekday mornings at Cosmo as well

You better put some odds behind that pass line bet to give you close to true odds on your point when it hits, otherwise you're only making even money on your pass line bet.

 

What do you mean?

 

Your pass line bet only pays you even money, (you bet $5, if you win, you win $5). Putting odds, (normally double your pass line bet), behind your pass line bet will get you almost true odds of the point that you need. If you need to hit a ten and it hits, you would get paid double that of what you put down.
Don't know the true odds but here goes:

4= 2 to 1 odds
5= 3 to 2 "
6= 8 to 6 "
8= 8 to 6 "
9= 3 to 2 "
10= 2 to 1 "

 

I'm pretty sure that the payout for either 6 or 8 is 6 to 5. And all those are the true odds. There is no house percentage on the pass odds.

 

That is correct. Six and eight pay 6 to 5 on the odds bet

 

My last trip was my first time to play craps. I started downtown but later in the trip I really enjoyed playing $5 craps at Margarittaville. It's a great place and since the craps table is right by the big opening to the sidewalk it's a great atmosphere. I had the table all to myself and this was in the middle of the day. I was tipping the dealers and they were great!

Yes, for your own sake. A little online research and you'll be all set. If not, ask questions here, and we'll get you on the right path....

 

I'd also like to add a +1 to Margaritaville regarding low-stakes gambling in general. Decent 8-deck shoes at $10, PaiGow and the craps table is at $5 a lot of the time. Read the blackjack tables carefully, some are 6:5 but there are always 3:2 shoes and the dealers have been, in general, pretty friendly. The CW talent is outstanding with one of the sexiest costumes on the strip (basically a bikini with a small see-through beach sarong.)

As earlier posters indicated: You must take odds on pass line bets!!
It is the only bet in the casino without a house edge.

 

Ok trying to get my head round this.... If I bet on say a 6 does that mean my next roll of the duce has to equal 6 or I lose?

 

no, as they said, you need to read up on the game before playing. I would highly recommend the casinos that offer free lessons so you can learn how to play before you actually start gambling.

Unlike bj and other table games, it isn't very easy to pick up on your own without instruction, you just can't put down money and learn the game.

For a newbie you should go in the morning as the craps tables aren't very crowded and the dealers might help you with the game.

and while there are $5 tables, in the afternoon and evening those tables get filled and the action is fast so might be confusing for a newbie.
