Wynn Renovation

I've read a couple threads from different areas on the board here where people mention Wynn being "in disaray" and "all tore up".

Does anybody know exactly what they're doing there and is it just the casino and is it Wynn and Encore or just Wynn?

I can’t give you any more info than what we spoke about a few weeks ago, Dino. But I thought I’d chime in with my observations in case anyone else was wondering about it – or can elaborate on it as I was there at the beginning of the changes.

I arrived at Wynn on June 15. It was business as usual.

On the 16th, I came down from my room to see that the quarter of the casino near Red 8/Tower Suites lobby had been roped off and the machines turned off.

On the 17th, the entire half of the casino to the south of the walkway that goes from the cage to Parasol Up (your left as you’re walking toward Parasol from the cage) had been roped off. It also appeared that many of the machines in the quarter of the casino that had been roped off the day before had been shuffled around, but had not been turned on yet.

On the 18th, the south side of the casino was still closed for business, as well as a very small section on the northern half – near Parasol. It also appeared that many more machines on the south side had been moved around.

On the 19th, I left early. It didn’t appear that much had changed from the day before by the time I headed to the airport at about 9ish.

A dealer I spoke with mentioned that they were going to do a pretty significant reshuffling of the casino floor, including moving some of the tables around to different areas.

I’d imagine that if they haven’t finished by now, they will be finished soon. From the way it looked and from the way the dealer talked it was going to be more of a rearranging than a renovation (though, a significant rearranging). At least I hope that’s the case. Hopefully someone with a more recent stay can add some more information.

Encore did not have any work going on while I was there.

Dino, it looks like I’ll be back again over Labor Day. I’ll let you know what’s going on then if no one has any more relevant info for you.


BTW…this seems like a pretty trivial thing to worry about for someone staying at Bellagio! poke:

Well....you know me, I still have my Encore reservation and it's really 50/50 at this point...as you know, there's numerous issues tugging at me

It will be interesting to see what they've done...I kind of like that they are changing the casino around. We play there so much I feel like I could walk straight to my favorite spots in the casino in my sleep or

Meas....did you notice any big change up in the casino layout? Looks like you were there after Carve and it sounds like it would have been hard for him to tell what the final layout was going to be.

 

there's people who work for the casino whose entire job is to figure out how to maximize revenue through the layout. they are constantly drawing up models and looking at underperforming areas and figuring out how to reorganize to increase those areas. I talked to the guy who is in charge of this at a casino and it's amazing all the data they collect from every table, different timeframes, etc. they know exactly what machines and what tables provide the most revenue and what areas don't. so then he takes those areas that aren't performing well and figures out how to reshuffle things to hopefully increase revenue. just like any other business that moves merchandise around the store regularly to promote certain items and try to get underperforming items selling better.

 

Roger that. I was in the Wynn on July 10-11 and noticed nothing.

 

We were there June 10 throught 13 and the north half of the casino had been in total disarray. Asked a few of the floor people and they said the goal was to have more of the machines in a "carousel configuration" and fewer rows of slots. They had finished up most of the north half by the time we left.

I know shifter is right, but it looks to me like the carousel configuration requires fewer slots and thus, keeps their expenses per machine down too. I would be willing to bet that they have 40% fewer machines on the floor now than they did when they first opened.

We will be there in a few days and I can post again. I will be most unhappy if they have removed my favorite all star poker machines that were by Red 8.

 

That would explain why I couldn’t find the 100 play nickel VP machine over by the valet that I like to play with my morning coffee. Glad I’m not just losing it!

 

I was there on May 11th - 15th, normal as could be at that time. Loved the room.

That's right, but I hope they know that many VMBers don't like changes of any type and may stop coming to Las Vegas and the town will die!

 

Another interesting point about the redo of the game configuration into more carousels is the timing of this one. It was less than a year ago when they replaced all of the carpet at Wynn. Now, I'm just a lowly engineer, but wouldn't it have made sense to do all of this renovation at the same time rather than have to redo all the electrical twice? It can't be very efficient to move all those machines and ensure you have the proper configuration underneath the casino floor twice. They were also having to adjust all the lighting to ensure you didn't have the lights shining directly on the machines and creating a glare.

 

I was there a few weeks ago and saw no issues in either casino.

 

Steve Wynn is not about efficiency. He is very willing to spend enormous amounts of money and time to change some tiny detail, so that everything is exactly the way he wants it. And then do it again when he changes his mind.

 

I can't imagine that the casino floor isn't wired and lighting placed to accomodate a lot of different configurations. Based on what Shifter brought up, they know during the design phase that they'll be making numerous and frequent changes on the casino floor.

After all, this isn't the first casino Steve Wynn has built.

I'm glad they do change things up.....I can see where it will make me go hunting around the casino in places I probably have never been.
