I have always heard that North Las Vegas should be avoided when looking for residency. :But Aliente area is OK ,where do you draw the line at Lake Mead Boulevard? What would be the east / west boundaries for a safe area looking at Decatur right now.

I live in Aliante. It's a nice area. I'd say to stay west of Losee Rd. and north of Craig. Some east/west streets that are good are Centennial, Ann Rd., and Tropical.

I'm not sure where on Decatur you're talking about -- Decatur is mostly industrial/commercial, and most of it is in Las Vegas, not North Las Vegas. It may be the dividing line between the 2 cities.

There's several nice areas to live in North Las Vegas, but a big problem right now is their city government and the tax structure that goes along with it. The recession and some poor decisions made during the good years have left them in a real pickle. We've all got our fingers crossed for NLV to navigate the choppy waters well...

Get a map of Vegas. Take a ruler and place the top in the NW corner just above Sahara.. the middle of the ruler should be just left or west of the strip and the bottom of the ruler should be around Sunset and Wigwam. You want to live on the left side of the ruler.

We took a ride up there yesterday on the Decatur bus from Flamingo.
Took quite a while. I guess the price is what caught our eyes. Going to keep looking.

We purchased our condo in southwest area near the 215 and Rainbow. It's not really close to any casinos but I can get to them and the strip in 15 minutes. Normal everyday shopping (Walmart groceries Home depot) and restaurants are within a mile or two.

Even though the northwest area can be lower prices I think the travel time would get to me.

Decatur and Lake Mead is not in the city of North Las Vegas. It's in Las Vegas. It's in a commercial area, not far from Texas Station and Fiesta Rancho. It's not a very good neighborhood.
