I was chatting with my little brother a little while ago and he's watching a show that had some gambling scene in it. So he says to me, "Hey wanna go to AC? I'll drive". Ha! As if he even needed to ask....

Do you do many spur of the moment casino trips? Any actual spur of the moment Vegas trips? I sort of did that once, on a weekend. Ended up being costly!

Hmmm, sheepishly raising hand! I have done 3 trips to Las Vegas this year so far. My May trip was well planned, hell, I even had an itinerary typed up. My first trip of the year in February, I decided on Thursday before SuperBowl weekend to drive there for the Big Game (7.5 hour drive one way). My most recent trip was for July 4th, decided to drive about noon on July 4th, didn't have to return until following Monday. I guess those are spur of the moment! Have to admit, prefered the 7 night trip (especially with all the free MyVegas goodies on that one)

I've taken spur of the moment trips to local casinos (1-2 hours away) but never to Vegas.

Haven't done it for a while, but it used to be not so infrequent to be sitting in a bar on Friday afternoon at 5, fully planning to spend the weekend at home, only to catch a 7:30 flight to Vegas. Mostly did this from Newport Beach with the OC airport 10 mins away and the flight to LAS only 45 mins in the air. I can't see doing it from the east coast.

This is a good time to point out it is VERY useful to have a host when you call up on Friday night and say "I'll be there in 2 hours, what can you do for me?"

Well, since the local casinos are about 20 minutes away from where I work, we'll occasionally do a spur of the moment Friday afternoon/evening thing.

I've done this a few times from Houston......the most memorable time being after Hurricane Ike. Work was shut down for two weeks, the airports had been shut down for a few days and our yard looked like a war zone with 100 year old oak trees on the ground. We had just had our electricity come back on (never underestimate how much you need/want power) and I was at my computer reading online about Vegas. About 9 pm at night, got an email from Continental saying they were offering a special fare to Vegas because of Hurricane Ike and getting everyone back and flying again.

Sent a text mail to my host about 9:30 and asked if she could get me in........got a response back immediately saying yes. Booked my flight and left on the first flight out the next morning. Limo waiting for me at McCarran and for a few days, I forgot all about the hurricane. :)

Wasn't a profitable trip, but it was definitely on the spur of the moment!

    Spur of the moment? Nope.
Need to make arrangements with the kennel first.

Usually its an early work day. My buddy and I look at each other during lunch.

We normally do the Indian casino, but as the freeway split a few times we make the exit for vegas nad add another 1.5 hr to the drive.

a few times we flew out in the after noon and took the first flight home of the day and drive straight to work. Those trips just make me feel old an I cant hang anymore.

We went to the Borgata and Harrahs. Both were really lively and hopping. Gambling wise no big fortunes but we both left up about 1k combined. As usual blackjack and spanish 21 were fine to me while I was getting ass raped by VP. Then my self-destructive tendencies kicked in and I stepped up the denom and hit this shortly after, which brought me back:

2 Christmas Days ago, I was on my own and decided to drive 3.5 hrs to Reno to gamble for 4 hours before coming home to work 24hrs the next morning. I posted the trip here on the forums. Needless to say, I should have stayed home. Lost half of a 3 day bankroll in 4 hrs. At least I got a hot pastrami sammie out of the trip.

Crazy thing was that I was flying to Vegas on the 27th....

Back in college and before kids we used to drive to Reno spur of the moment. Pretty fun to just take day trips or late night trips. Early on I won $700 on let it ride and almost splurged on a room. Luckily the wife had some sense and we hit the road back home!

Did one today, while attending the John Deere PGA Classic in the Quad-Cities. Stopped at Jumers casino before heading to the course. Debated whether or not to go. After getting beat up at craps and BJ tables, the spur-of-the-moment decision wasn't such a good idea. Should have headed straight for course instead.

Usually at least once a year. Although there are a few casino's here, there's nothing like Vegas. It's an eight hour drive from here, and as was mentioned above, having a host who expects the occasional call asking "what do you have tonight / tomorrow?" is priceless. And I've gotten some great rooms doing that. Pack a quick bag, hop in the car and drive, it's a beautiful thing.

I woke up a Thursday morning once with the Vegas bug...I tried to fight it all day but by the afternoon I couldn’t handle it anymore...called MLife and got a room for 1 night. I texted a bud of mine and said "hey wanna go to Vegas tomorrow" he said "I dunno...kinda last minute" then I said "alright, well if you change your mind I am leaving at 2pm" then he said "well I cant let you go alone...pick me up in your way out"

We drove the 4.5 hours to Vegas, gambled and drank all night, slept a few hours, then woke up the next morning and drove back home...it was the weekend after Labor day so the roads and the strip were dead...one of my favorite Vegas stories
