Table Games Craps

Is there anywhere in Vegas to go and learn to play craps? My hubby and I would like to learn to play craps, but don't want to look like idiots on a regular table.

Most casinos will have a "lesson" somewhere between 10am and noon. They will probably explain the basic bets. I've heard that they endorse a particular betting strategy, but can't confirm that. Its a pass line bet with odds and 2 come bets with odds. Once you do the lesson, you will understand what that means.

Craps is a dangerous game. If you crave action, you will be driven to put money on several bets on every roll of the dice. Even the strategy mentioned above will have up to $30 at risk for every hand. With a $100 buy in, it takes 3 bad hands to wipe you out.

If you want your buy-in to last, you should seek out the $3 table at Freemont. I don't know if any Strip or Downtown casinos offer anything under $5.

 

Maybe read the craps section on www.WizardOfOdds.com . Also - there is a decent craps simulator there too.

 

Definitely plenty of places to obtain lessons.

Also, you will find some places tend to have more empty tables than others. You can try playing here first.

Just start with the basics and you will get more involved as you get more comfortable playing.

 

Monte Carlo runs a lesson around 9 AM, then they open a $5 table for the people who took the lesson immediately following.

Most casinos do this -- call to find the time.

 

Don't forget the most obvious, the internet.. Many online guides and games. Practice online, then just watch the live players in action. Seek out a slow (or dead), low limit game and the dealers (most) will gladly help.

 

I just got back from Vegas and played my first time. I think I was prepared via YouTube, this forum, etc. but nothing like being on the table. I found all dealers to be helpful whenever you have questions.

Also I recommend looking up "live" craps videos on YouTube to get an idea of a live craps game.

 

As others have said, casinos offer free classes in the am. Its similar to learning a new game of cards where you'll learn the intricate stuff at the table/while you're playing.

I consider myself a beginner still and I usually stand next to the boxman and he will help with any weird questions/bets.

Most of the MGM casinos also have that "Shoot to Win" craps. its an electronic betting terminal where you place your wagers and the dice are inside a giant "pop-o-matic" style bubble in the middle.

I know some don't like these electronic games but one advantage is that you can play pretty cheap ($2-2.50 minimums on some of them) and you can't really screw up placing a wrong bet on the terminal (plus it has extensive help files that explain all the wagers).

 

Go to youtube and search for "craps 101". A professor has put together nine tutorial videos that will show you how to play the game, from the very basic rules, to some decent bets you can use that have better odds. That's how I learned.

 

Just got back from 2nd trip this year. Last trip I took class with the Dicecoach. I t was a great experience and worth the money. It is very reasonable. Took a refresher this last trip and took a few friends...made money back first trip to the table. Casino classes only teach you enough to get you in trouble. Beau Parker is the real deal.
