If a casino charges a resort fee why not offer freebies such as a newspaper (local/USA Today), freeplay and etc. The freeplay could be something like this Silver Sevens / Gold Coast get $3 per day resort fee than why not $10 FP per day and if the resort fee is $10 per day than $30 FP per day. It's probably good that I don't run a casino as it might have a high occupancy rate.

ummm the whole point of the resort fee is to increase revenue. giving out 3x as much in FP as the resort fee would be counter-intuitive. everyone complains about feeling nickeled and dimed vis a vis resort fees, checked bag fees, service charges, etc, but if they didn't work to increase revenues, companies would stop using them.

There are things that are included, just that they were optional before. Things like wifi, gym, newspaper, etc it varies by property. Obviously the value of that stuff is less than the resort fee because as shifter said, the whole point is to raise revenue. But it's not like its just a "fuck you, pay me" type fee that you don't get anything for.

You are correct--it's good that you don't run a casino. I guess you are not really understanding the purpose of a resort fee, at least from the casino's perspective, anyhow.

Some Casino's attempt to create 'value' from their fees by offering token coupons such as $5 off their buffet per day, discount on Spa service's etc. I imagine these have been designed to drive extra revenue to the Casino, as some will want to extract as much 'value' as they can from their paid resort fees.

They have teams of people that do nothing but figure out how to increase profit for casinos all day, every day.

If it would increase profit for them, they would do it.

I do understand the casinos wanting to raise revenue. The longer you're in there the better for them. If a property were to give FP, someone may decide to stay there versus another that doesn't. Speaking of resort fees the Riveria doesn't charge them, if you book thru marketing. CET doesn't charge if you are platinum or better. It seems to me that some of the properties want wiggle room on the fees rather than an across the board fee(s).

unfortunately many of us feel that this is exactly what the resort fee basically is. The owners know that people who use wifi, gym, etc, are a small minority so they know that they can make money off these resort fees. I relate them to airline baggage fees IMHO, just another way of increasing revenue. Like others say, why don't they just raise their prices...but the reason is because they want to "appear" to have lower prices.

Not a problem for me, I just factor in these fees when I look for hotels to stay at. If their rates are good even with the fees then I would stay there, otherwise I would stay elsewhere.

I usually use kayak and constantly see Palace Station when I looking for rooms with the lowest rates. I just factor in their resort fees and then usually find that their rates are much higher than other downtown hotels. I guess they catch others (who don't know about the resort fee) who think that the palace station is cheap and find out when they check in or pay.

Not sure if anyone knows, but there are some downtown hotel casinos that do offer free USA today. The problem is that they only have a limited amount and are usually gone by the time the crowds get up. Don't want to spill the beans so I won't mention which hotels offer this.

While were discussing this, just note that even though CET has added resort fees (after bragging for a few years about how they DIDN'T have them), if you get to Platinum status, the resort fee is waived. (You still don't get free Wi-Fi in your room, however).

Platinum isn't that hard to get, 5000 points. (1 point for $5 through on slots, or 1 point for $10 on VP, various levels on table games.)

Not hard to get 5000 tier points? I gamble $300-$400 a day for 5 days each time i'm in Vegas. In May i gathered about 800 tier credits, in August, i probably will do about the same, and in Nov., again, about the same ($1500-$2000 per week). I only play slots, which is better for point total, but if i'm over 3000 points for the year i'm lucky, but well short of being Platinum. I am Gold and get plenty of free rooms (like Caesars in 2 weeks, i had free rooms at Rio, and free rooms at Bally's in Nov., and free rooms in 2014) which will offset the resort fees. In Nov. i am comped AND no resort fees (booked before March 1st). Many people in here don't go to Vegas for 3 weeks total, just weekends or maybe one week per year. We will never get to Platinum. So yes, it is hard for many of us. And personally, i will never gamble or get a Visa card just to bump me up. People may have upgraded to Platinum because of the Visa card, but for the next year you go back to zero........then you have to acquire 5000 points the hard way. I never play for a different color card, i play what is best for me. And like i said, i get comped even though i'm a measly Gold card holder. The key for TR members is the rate calender, that way i know up to a year what rooms are free. For me, free room + resort fee at Gold, is the same, if not better, than $75-$100+ per night with no resort fee at Platinum.

I didn't mean to set anyone off, sorry. CET IS good about handing out free rooms, and it doesn't surprise me at all that at Gold you can get your whole vacation with free rooms. But your last sentence doesn't make much sense. A Platinum player is also getting the rooms for free, (or really cheap, my next trip is $57 for 5 days).

I guess 5000 points ($25,000 coin through) would be a lot for many players. At a $1 slot, 3 coins per spin, this would be 14 hours at the machine. If you're willing to play $5 slots, $10 a spin you can get there pretty quick, but I know that many, probably the majority of Vegas gamblers don't play anywhere near that level.

Thats exacly what i get from it Nothing, dont use the gym, dont own any wireless device, not from the US so dont care about local paper/usa today.

I really dont mind the 25$ fee luggage fee for flying as you only pay it if you use it( i always use it).

5$ free play per day or a couple of bottle of water per day they could find a way to make money without offering the moon

Maybe we just need a separate forum where folks can go complain about resort fees.

(not saying I like em, but this topic comes up over and over with the same logic behind the arguments)

Given the rapid expansions of resort and other fees at Vegas properties the last few years, I think there are remarkably few threads about it.

I'm pretty sure you weren't serious about a dedicated forum, but I guess I don't understand why those who aren't interested in the topic of a thread can't just not click on it and move on. Instead of derailing the thread by calling people who do participate "complainers."

Not everybody takes advantage of the freebies in the funbooks as it is. Why would everybody suddenly have the urge to use up every single freebie included in the resort fee every time?

I would feel better about the resort fee if it had a spa pass included. I like hanging out in the spa, using the hot tub and steam room. But, I'm not big on spa services. And/Or some funbook type freebies; buffet or coffee shop meals, drinks, freeplay, logo trinket.

Or, they could scrap resort fees, scrap funbooks, and just charge the true price they want/need to charge for the room and for a la carte services and amenities. I know...crazy!
