Border Grill Brunch

Has anyone eaten at the Border Grill for their weekend Brunch? We want to try it in August and would like some info on it. Thanks!

 

We LOVE it! A must-do every trip. The machaca chilaquiles are the best dish. Restaurant.com has certificates you can use to save $. Do a search for "Border Grill" here. The search function is in the green bar above. You'll get lots of info. It's really worth it. Go for it!

 

I was there on a Saturday mid May, loved it. Mine was comped via MyVegas but my first thought was I would not have had a problem paying full price. As a solo traveler, the tapas style delivery was great for me. I had the skirt steak and egg, Yucatan egg benedict, breakfast fries, brisket omelet, and one more I cannot remember. Tried 4 different mimosas also, the cucumber being my favorite which sounded the worse to me actually. My fav food was the Yucatan egg benedict. It was May so I set outside, temp was perfect, and the 2 piece band was playing music but not too loud. I probably was there for 75-90 minutes just enjoying the day. I highly recommend the place!

 

Agreed! It's an excellent brunch and well worth the cost!

Have you seen it recently on Restaurant.com? I've been looking for it the past month or so and it seems all the Mandalay Bay certificates have been taken off the site. Fleur, Aureole, StripSteak, Border Grill, RM Seafood, Foundation Room, MIX...can't find any of them. It's possible Mandalay Bay had a sort of "grand re-opening" when they changed the carpets, opened Michael Jackson ONE, opened LIGHT, etc all in the span of a week or so. The location is suddenly relevant again.

 

Thanks for all the info. I don't think it is on Restaurant.com anymore, but I have two certificates I bought last year so I will use one of them. I like that you order a bunch of small plates and the menu looks delicious!

 

We have been twice this year and highly recommend it. Do include the unlimited mimosas. Here are my TR notes with photos:

3/30 We met fellow foodie and Vegas Message Board member Warren and his charming wife Louann at the entrance and were soon seated on the enclosed patio sipping bottomless mimosas while discussing Las Vegas restaurants and other matters of great import. Over the ensuing 1.5 hours, or was it 3 (inside joke), we did a lot of gabbing, eating and drinking, but I neglected to write anything down and someone kept plying me with mimosas so my powers of recall have been somewhat diminished.

Our waitress and her trainee brought us plates of fresh fruit with a sweetened citrus sauce (4 Forks) and guava empanadas. I was saving my appetite for the “good” stuff so I only took a bite of the empanada (4 Forks) which turned out to be very good.





Our waitress encouraged each of us to order 2 items on the first round with mine being Peruvian shrimp and grits (3 Forks) and short rib hash topped with an egg (4.5 Forks).





In the meantime, we, actually Warren, ordered another round of mimosas (4 Sips).



For the second round I ordered a bacon jalapeno PBJ (2.5 Forks) and shared Warren's eggs Benedict (3 Forks) while sipping yet another mimosa. I closed my meal with a thimble sized portion of rice pudding (2.5 Spoons).





My 3 table mates ordered a variety of other dishes with the huevos rancheros, bread pudding French toast and the breakfast enchilada garnering the most praise. In the meantime I had a 3rd or was possibly a 4th mimosa before it was time to say goodbye to those 2 Hot Tamales from Long Island.



After 3 or possibly 4 mimosas, it is fortunate that the Fox Rent A Car lot is a straight shot up the Las Vegas Blvd because it was time to return our 3-day rental and pick-up our 4-day rental.


June 8 - We departed for Mandalay Bay where we redeemed another reward for the Border Grill's weekend brunch including unlimited mimosas. I won't go into a lot of detail (see menu), but between the two of us we consumed 7 mimosas and 11 tapas size plates. http://www.bordergrill.com/PDF/bglv_border_brunch_flyer.pdf





We were served plates of fresh fruit and guava empanadas while reviewing the menu I printed from their website.





We ate, in no particular order, the short rib hash w/egg, chilaquiles, brisket omelet, churro tots and sweet potato pancakes. The weak sister being the sweet potato pancakes.











The stars of this performance were the bread pudding French toast and the fig and blue cheese quesadillas drizzled with chipolte aioli. These were so delicious an encore performance was deemed necessary.





Our seven mimosas included a nice cross section of the ones (watermelon, pomegranate, peach, passion fruit, cucumber) being offered this day with the best in class designation going to the cucumber.



Seven may initially seem like a lot, but, as I explained to our server, the first 2 were being charged to our friends Warren and LouAnn. LOL

Though I failed to note our delightful server's name, you will recognize her by the blue hair and assorted tattoos. ($18, MyVegas, 4.5 Forks)

You've convinced me that I need to eat there. Another superb food report.

 

My only addition to the food porn of Westie is that I enjoyed te shrimp/grits a bit more than he. I also tried the skirt steak and really liked it. We are going back in three weeks.

 

The green eggs & ham and steak and eggs are both great, too.

 

Here is a tip I discovered after our first visit - when Executive Chef Mike Minor is in the kitchen, he prepares one off the menu special each week. Neither of our servers mentioned it so if yours doesn't, be sure to ask.

Also, I confirmed via email that outstanding restaurant.com certificates will be accepted for both the brunch and dinner.

 

Anyone willing to trade a Border Grill Restaurant.com certificate for one from another Mandalay Bay property? I bought ones for StripSteak, Fleur, and MIX, but I'm more likely to use Border Grill (of course, the one I did not buy).

 

The Border Brunch is the only 'must visit' that I have during all of my Vegas trips, and I've sung its praises before on this board, so I definitely recommend it.

If Westie hadn't beaten me to it, I would have given this tip, but now I'll just emphasize it as definitely being worth doing. Often, these off-menu dishes given to those that ask for them during the brunch are meant to test new dishes that might make it to the menu later (as has happened in the past).
