Are they now charging resort fees on MLife comp night offers at NYNY?

We’ve never been charged resort fees on our comped rooms, and I never have to give a cc at the time of booking either. When I made my reservation at the Mirage for October, no cc needed (even though one of the nights is at a casino rate, the other comped) but when I booked a comp room for my husband at NYNY in which both nights are comp completely….the lady asked for a cc and said that they would still be responsible for the resort fees. The last time we stayed at NYNY was in 2009 on comped nights and there were no fees charged.

Is this something new or did I get someone who didn’t know what they were doing? I haven’t had a chance to call them back yet, thought I would check with all of you to see if you’ve had any issues recently.

Its always been that some hotels charge them on comp rooms and some hotels don't... and sometimes there isn't even consistency within the hotel where one comped guest might have to pay and another won't.

NYNY, Monte Carlo, Luxor, and Excalibur have been known to charge resort fees on comped rooms. (It's strange that the four lowest properties on the MGM side are the ones that are bad with this).

But as the poster above noted, it's not consistent. Some people get charged, some don't. Just ask them about it and see what they can do upon checkout and they'll probably take them off.

Not unusual for them to say you will be charged during the reservation process, or even at checkin. Then later not have to pay it. NYNY covered the whole resort fee and made me sign at checkin, but it was waived along wih the room.

    YMMV.

Same happened to me that happened to nostresshere. NYNY would always ask for a cc# but we never had to pay the resort fee on check out.

That really is interesting. Our last stays have been at Aria and Mirage....we've never been charged a resort fee at either. I'll have my husband ask at check out about it. We don't usually go to the desk to check out, do you think he could ask on the last night and not have to worry about it?

Here's an idea-- although I imagine this has been done before-- agree to the resort fee at check-in, giving them your CC. Then, if you have a host, try to get them to waive the fee when checking out.

I'm always amazed that players that gamble thousands on trips are dinged $20 a night for a resort fee.

I stayed at MGM in May for two comped nights and was charged a resort fee for the first time there on a comped room.

Yes it is confirmed that NYNY will charge you th resort fees. I go to Vegas 3 times a year and I am Platinum with MGM and they still wanted me to pay the fee with my comped room. Bellagio, with the same corporate comp, no fees.

I wanted to stay at NYNY though since they offered me more free play so I sent the offer to a host there and she booked it for me, no fees. This is how you get around it. I can also confirm that Luxor and MGM will stick you on a comp as well unless you do the host trick

Cosmopolitan also charges resort fees on comp rooms. at least when you book those comp rooms, not sure about at checkout.

I'd love to stay at Cosmo...just haven't played enough there to warrant any comps and can't rationalize paying over $50 a night for a Vegas hotel room...I'm spoiled.

If you get comp'd at Cosmo, it's only a $25/night resort charge. I think I mostly get comps there because of my Marriott points.

But, for my trip next week, they'd give me two free nights, then I'd have to pay for the third. Just $475 for that one night. So yeah, not going there.

I've never had to pay a resort fee at Cosmo on a comped room. Maybe it's because I am booking it through my host, but I've stayed there 4 times since they started the resort fee and haven't paid once.

As others have said, hotels can change their policies without notice. When I was at the MGM on an offer last October, when I asked if I would be charged a resort fee the check-in person was confused and essentially said, 'Of course not, comped rooms include that.'

Fast forward to a couple of months ago when I was making reservations for May based on an MGM offer, and the person on the VIP Reservations line explicitly told me that resort fees are not included, and I would have to pay them.

As others have said, I'm sure that true high rollers get that crap waived too - it would be pretty ridiculous to charge them $20 when they're getting free nights in suites worth hundreds.
