    Hey guys,

I'm working on the next trip for August, which I'm trying to minimize the room cost (not food, etc.) more than usual.

My usual haunts are Tropicana, and Hard Rock. I found a great deal at the Silverton, and now at the Stratosphere . Has anyone stayed at either of these properties, and could compare the two?

The room at The STRAT would be the Strat Select, and the room at Silverton is the basic. Both hotels seem to have nice, but different, drinking and dining options. The Silverton pool seems newer, but more generic, while the Strat has volleyball.

    Any advice?

I can tell you that I have 2 gals that work in my office and travel to Las Vegas 8-10 times a year for business. Like myself they have stayed at most of the major properties in town and they LOVE the Strat! They're both in their early 40's, look great and love to unwind in the evenings. They always stay over for a day or two after the business is done to enjoy wherever they are and they keep returning to the Strat.

I am about to make reservations at the Strat for a 7th time.

I've only stayed in the renovated rooms once but it was very nice.

Unfortunately can't comment as a comparison but have no hesitation in recommending the Strat.

Fellini's is a great restauraunt - Roxy's is a good and reasonably priced diner and the buffet is fine if unremarkable.

I am yet to try the new McCall's restauraunt or Top of the World.

All of the usual fast food options including a pizza place, McDonalds two sandwich places (one is at the top of the tower) and a great Mexican.

My first trip to Vegas was at the re-modeled Trop, last November I stayed at the Stratosphere, with a few others in between. I loved the place. The location is great- you are mid way between Strip and Downtown and it is easy in/out of the place since traffics died down a tad in that area.

I will tell you, there are going to be people on here that are going to bad mouth it, I can bet they have never stayed in nor even set foot in their rooms. They just did a really nice re-model themselves and I wouldn't hesitate one second to stay again. Get an ACE card and with very minimal gambling they will send comps.

Another Strat fan here. Next month I am making my 4th trip there in as many years. The first trip was in their lowest end rooms and honestly, I was ok with it because I was there for my daughter's competition for 9 nights, needed it cheap and it was just a place to crash. The following year I reserved the same room but was offered $20 a night more at check in to upgrade to the renovated room. LOVED IT!! Well worth the fee. And last year I got a comped suite. Could not have been happier. This year again, comped suite. And I'm no High Roller. I love the free access to the tower, the deals (half price shows, half price martinis in the tower bar, etc.) and the food options from super cheap to high end. Give the Strat a try!

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

We ended up booking Silverton because we are trying to make it to M Resort (buffet) and M-Bay (Ice Bar) on this trip. Part of me wishes we were at the Strat based on all the positive feedback. Seems there are some mixed reviews out there, but there is a lot of support here for the Strat, so it must be solid.

I'm hoping to make it up there one night to hit the Level 7 bar, and try out the casino (craps). I will definitely have to get the ACE card so I can earn a discount or comp for the next trip.

I went out to the Silverton in feb to get a t-shirt from Bass Pro, but that was closest I got to the casino. So weird seeing a Bass Pro hooked onto a casino. I have seen pics of the rooms, and they do look nice, you should be ok. Place is a tad out there, but if you have a car it is no biggie. The M is well worth the trip.

Silverton has been one of my favorites, but my room experiences have been limited to their suites. The suites are nice, with jacuzzis, walk-in showers and a big screen over the fireplace.

Other than the suites, the rooms are nice motel-style rooms surrounding the pool area.

IMHO, it really depends on whether you want to go to the strip or spend time in the hotel/casino you are staying in. Silverton has good bars, gambling and a few restaurants. Strat has access to the strip, even if you are very far north.
