    My Trip Report

I haven't written a TR since April of 2012 and am heading to Reno solo today. My fortune has turned around since 2013 started. Last year, I totaled 2 winning trips out of 9 as documented in my TRs. From Dec 2012 to now, I've booked 4 wins and 2 losses. Unfortunately, the 2 losses were my last 2 trips and they made me about even for the year.

I'm going to be trying some new things this time around. I will try and play the darkside for the majority of my action. I will also be travelling to the Bonanza Casino to sample their "Best in Nevada" steakhouse. Prime grade 28 day aged rib eye for $35.

I had taken up BJ for all my trips this year, because I had extraordinary luck. It was BJ that contributed to all my winning sessions. Unfortunately, the last 2 trips, BJ provided a much needed wake up call. During my winning trips, I was able to routinely press my $10 starting bet to $75+ range on win streaks. I thought it happened all the time and that I'd found my personal ATM. The last 2 trips, I couldn't piece together a streak of more than a couple hands. Most amazing was that even over 3-4 day trips, this bad streak held up. Hard to imagine you can lose a couple thousand bucks playing $5 BJ.

I've got a quick meeting before leaving town then I plan on arriving by 2pm.

Looking forward to your report. You're due for a win this time. Have a great trip!

Exact same boat. I love craps, only play Pass / Come, and place the 6/8 at various amounts depending on bankroll. Unfortunatly, I don't always have the bankroll to get past three cold shooters in a row.

Looking for a good game but with less volitility, starting last summer at Horseshoe Hammond and continuing in my fall Las Vegas trip, I couldn't lose at BJ using a progression (add $5 after each win) method. Love the adrenaline rush of having $35 on the spot, and doubling, and watching the dealer draw to a bust!

And on my recent spring trip to Reno and Vegas (and also locally last weekend at Ho Chunk at the Wisconsin Dells) I couldn't buy a winning session... they all seemed to start 2-12 for a quick $100 loss (and the beginning of The Chase).

After a quick stop at Sonic for junk food fix, I made it to Reno and into my room with a total travel time of 3.5 hrs. Could have been better had it not been for those dang slow left lane drivers.

Yes, the last 2 trips were rude awakenings to the perils of BJ. I think I will cut down on the BJ time because ot also dropped my average bet significantly. With my bad luck I wasn't able to get over a $25 bet so it tanked my avg bet for the trip. When I do play, I'll probably start a bit higher and not press. I'll ride the splits and doubles for whatever profit I can get.

After a quick change into some more comfortable attire, heading down for a marker and some dice.

Wow. The first hand at the table goes for 25+ rolls. I think he hit 4 points. I stuck to my plan of $10 don't with 5x lay and limiting my exposure to 2 points per shooter. I played 2 hrs and saw 3 25+ roll hands but still managed a 350 profit. It would have been $500 but I took a flyer on the last hand before breaking for dinner. $20 and full 5x lay on the 5 dor $150 in odds. Of course, the shooter nails me.

I realized how boring the pace is for darkside betting. While I missed out on the 3 good hands, there was a lot of point 7 outs. If I had played my normal right side bets I would have gone through 2 buyins.

There was a young guy that threw the first good hand right when I walked up. He kept reaching for more hundos as he kept busting. This guy would berate shooters for holding the dice too long, saying they caused the 7 to show. There's always "that guy.". Its bad enough they were all getting slaughtered but then they had to listen to this guy go on and on.

I just chatted up the dealers. I asked the 2 rotating next to me how they wanted the tokes. I couldn't believe they both wanted to go on the don't with me, LOL! They probably racked about $50 and then another $25 hand in when I colored.

Sitting down for my pastrami sammie. Then more dice. So much for working out today.

Chip refill. Down $250 but clawing my way back.

I stay at the Atlantis. Very generous to the low roller. I get comped suites for some reason. Certainly not based on my avg bet. Maybe on my losses :)

Another 2.5 hour session and managed to get back to even. Of course the last hand was a point of 4. That puts me in at a $10 flat and $100 lay. All night I was breaking 50/50 on the 10s and 4s. The shooter nails me on the second roll. Even with that hit I still broke even.

After about 5 hrs playing the don't, it was actually pretty boring. There were 2 very good hands I got to my 2 point limit. One of these hands had many box numbers though. Had I been betting right side, I would have made a decent profit. This is going to be my undoing. So far I've been able to stay disciplined and not switch sides. The table was mostly cold besides these 2 hands. I would have probably broken even overall.

I also realized that the only time I felt like I was gambling was when I had to lay $100 odds on the 10 or 4. For a guy that usually has a starting spread of $35 as a pass line bettor, having $110 at risk was pretty exciting.

Just had my single scoop banana split and about to take a soak and read some game of thrones. My backup plan if I blew today's bankroll was watching a movie. Woohoo for no movie!

I also checked my comp balance before the 2nd dice session. I went from 0 to $55 in comps with just that 2 hour session. I'm guessing my avg bet was in the $80 range. How does this joint make any money? Oh well, gonna milk it for all its worth!

Its official. I'm a degenerate. On my way back to the room I had to throw the dice once today. I have been passing the dice all day today. I bought in for $100 and went $5 PL 2x odds and continuous come bets at the same level. I actually repeated the 6 a couple times and managed to break even! After a couple laughs with the dealers, I colored and made it back to the room. I guess I'm not a complete degenerate.

Up an' at 'em at 5am. Usually, I'd head straight down to play some vp or bj, but I'm practicing some discipline. I managed to read Game of Thrones for an hour before coming down for some joe and breakfast.

I still feel dirty playing the don't yesterday but its hard to argue with the results. 1 winning session and another breakeven session. I can't remember the last time that has ever happened playing dice.

We'll see how the gambol goes today, but I may go watch a movie or go shopping.

I managed to turn $25 in free play into $100 on $1 BP. I got dealt 4 to the diamond royal and got trolled by a suited 5. I saw the red and had a very brief "Oh shit" moment. Last night a woman hit the royal progressive on the same bank.

I played a quick $100 dice session, playing PL/2x odds with continuous come bets. I lasted about 30 mins. At least I got to throw the dice a couple times. There was a don't bettor only betting when he threw the dice. He would start on the don't and switch to pass if he took his first point down. The first time he threw, he lost his first don't, then 7d out on his pass bet. Note to self, don't be that guy.

First reality check of the trip. Blew my buy-in in about 1.5 hrs. Stuck to my don't bets with 5x lay. Shooters kept making 2 points, putting me at my limit. I think I won 3 bets that entire session. I think I went 1 for 3 on 4/10s this session. Those were the biggest hits to my stake.

Struck up a convo with a local guy. Pretty sad stories of gambling too much with too little money. Child on the way. He was smiling at least.

It looks like I'll be using my backup plan. Go shopping for a bit, hit the pool and maybe a movie after lunch. Another dice session before dinner at Bonanza.

If my luck or bankroll would allow me to spend all day at the tables, I'd be there. I'd love nothinmg more than to spend 10 hrs a day gambling.

First score of the trip! Socks, LOL.

Holy craps! Another gut check session in the making. After my salad bar lunch I tried another dice session. This started exactly like this morning's session. Several shooters taking me past my 2 point limit. About an hour into the session I'm on life support. I actually re-buy with another marker after floating with only about $50 in my rail for a few shooters.

My man, Scotty, steps into the stick then the magic starts happening. The dice went around the table twice and only a couple people manage to make a point and they all can't make their 2nd. Scott leaves stick and taps into the spot right next to me. We share a non-verbal head nod. I've got them on the line laying 1x odds.

The table had been full and the table finally emptied. I look down and I managed to come back to even! I never dipped into my re-buy. I decided to gamble a bit more and shot from the don't. I freaking racked 4 more wins. On my 5th hand I lost my first point and decided to keep the hand going with one more don't. Instead of $10 flat I went $20 flat. I layed the full 5x against the come out 6. BOOM! 7 out.

I ended up 3 bills to the good, recouping some of the losses from this morning. This session was just as exciting as any right side session I've ever had. When I re-buyed I seriously considered switching sides. I stuck to my guns and it paid off. It could have very easily gone the other way.

$500 isn't as big as I had thought it would be. Laying $70 to $110 can be very sketchy with only a $500 buy in. That being said, I'm only down $100 if my memory is correct.

Gonna take a soak and head to the Bonanza for low rolling right side dice and steak.

Love the Atlantis, good food too. We've stayed there over 20 times and they were always good for us low rollers.

Enjoying your report. Hopefully tonight's the night for you to clean up!

That's too bad. The South Point has an excellent movie theater. The one on the strip isn't fancy but gets the job done. I usually see 3-4 movies per trip. I'm not a huge fan of the theater at Palms but for $22 on Tuesday you get 2 movie tickets, 2 popcorns, and 2 cokes.

The Atlantis has been the most generous casino for us. I gave about 1 year of play time to harrahs and I think I earned no more than $100 in comp dollars. I'm already at $150 comp dollars earned for this trip. That's not counting the comped 2 room suite.

The Bonanza was quite depressing. This local all the dealers knew by name could not catch a break. He came to the dice table, lost money. He went to the BJ game, lost money. He came back to the dice game, lost money. They offered a $2 game with double odds. It was fun rolling on the right side with so little at risk. I finished about even on dice using PL and constant come bets. Lots of 4/10s. I lost about $40 on $3 BJ, LOL.

The steakhouse was just OK. The pricing was fair but I would have gladly paid more for a thicker steak. The ribeye was off-bone and only about 3/4 inch thick. When you ask for med-rare you aren't going to get the nice char with such a thin cut. Unless you have a super hot grill. The beefy flavor and texture were there, but it was missing the all important char. The steak was underseasoned, which is ok since you can add salt, but the accompanying veggies were over salted.

Anywho, food-snob rant over. Time to gamble. I'm debating wheter to stay darkside until tomorrow. If I can preserve my bankroll until tomorrow, I can have a last-session hurrah.

Yikes. The don't is defintiely just as volatile as the pass line. I went through a buy-in in under an hour. Almost every shooter hit 2 passes. In preparing for this trip, I read that the don't is just as volatile as right side betting. This little experiment just confirmed what I already suspected. No matter what side you bet, you need luck more than anything.

Well, that bloodbath is making me shut it down early today. I still have another buy in for tomorrow and will go back to the pass line. If I'm willing to bet on something its a lot more fun to bet against the 7.
