Thanks for sharing! I can't wait to see what becomes of the old Sahara. I was sad when it closed and when the facade came down. But, onward and upward!

It was a full casino that had dirt cheap rooms and $1 beers and hot dogs yet still could not attract any customers.

This guy is living in dreamland.

What works in L.A. simply doesnt not work as well in Vegas. The vast majority of people are walking in Vegas. Take away that foot traffic and you will have major problems.

Are you going to walk to the SLS? I wont.

    Yep, I'm with you.

Besides, I'd gladly hop on the monorail to go up there and check the place out! (Am I the only one around here who still loves the monorail?)

I love how 1600 rooms in Vegas can be called a boutique hotel. That's still bigger than most hotels in every other city.

He's obviously targeting the self-defined hip-n-happnin' crowd who will willingly pay three figures for a room and four figures for bottle service.

However, is that crowd going to abandon their haunts at Palms and Hard Rock and Planet Ho and such to slum it on the North Strip?

I've seen the crowds at places like Palms, HR, and PH. I'm pretty sure that isn't the crowd he's going for. That's not the crowd thats typical of places like Hyde in LA or that drops thousands on bottle service in Vegas.

I also don't think he cares much about the looky-loo crowd walking in off the strip. I like walking in Vegas, but one of the things I loved about Aria was that they didn't get too much of that pedestrian traffic off the street (the way MGM does for example). It made the place much more serene. If he's going for a boutique hotel atmosphere focused on the guest experience I hope he'd want that too.

I think it may work, here's to hoping it does. It's got the low rolling Strat and Riviera nearby, and Resorts World will be going in just down the strip in a few years. So there's a bit of "gawker" traffic right there, plus the monorail as mentioned above. I think he's trying to get established on the north end now, instead of waiting until later. A bit of a gamble, but I don't think it's as risky as you first think.

And yes, I love the monorail too!

Like someone else mentioned, it would appear that he's not going for the walking crowd. It would appear that he's going for the Ferrari crowd with a healthy dose of limo crowd as well.

I think that's closer to his plan, at least, D Bags with money to flash.

That article was very well written. It reminded me of a novel I read a long time ago about a european boy who was (possibly) the illegitimate son of a Baron and when the kid came to America he called himself Baron and created a chain of hotels. The thing that struck me about Sam is that he said he could not get into fancy clubs and now he owns those places. A real Horatio Alger tale of Boy makes good!

Hope it is a roaring success - good for him on investing in the future.

Horatio Alger tales are about poor kids who grow up to become wealthy. Nazarian was a wealthy kid who grew up to become more wealthy.

Which isn't to suggest that the part about him now owning clubs he couldn't get into isn't seriously baller...:licklips:

Nazarian is a shrewd businessman and visionary adept at targeting niche demographics for his business model. And, what he does works.

    My money is on Nazarian.

The SLS will be a destination resort, not looking for walk in traffic. The target audience will make its way there. If it is well executed, which I believe it will be, it will be successful on the food/beverage/hotel side. What remains to be seen is what strategy Sam N will follow regarding casino comps/gaming rules etc. I am not as optimistic on that front.

I hope it is. Get them all in one spot and away from the other casinos on the strip.

knowing his bussiness from la, it will celieberty and realty star filled place.
thats what he did whith his hotels in la and nite clubs.ps hyde in bellagio is his.
i would expect paris hilton and lohan and the rest of that crowd to be his target audiance.
i predict his nites clubs will be the hardest to get into for a while,he would rather keep them empty and turn people away so it builds his brand
