I usually place bet and place the dealers on the point for $3-5. I usually start pressing and adding numbers when the numbers start repeating.

For my next trip, I'm going to spend a day on the darkside and was wondering how you toke in these situations. I'm thinking about just asking the dealer next to me how they want the toke.

I always play the toke during the game. However, if I'm leaving the table I always give it to them because it's a bigger token.

All the craps dealers I know just want the tokes straight up, no betting. They may not always say that because they don't want to spoil the fun of tipping via bets, but it's true.

I must get the degenerate gambler-dealers. the dealers at my home casino usually want to go on the line with me when I hand them a toke. At $3-5 dollars a toke, they aren't going to get rich taking it on the rail. If the tokes were at the green chip level, maybe it would be different.

You are right though, I'll probably ask them how they want it. I don't see a lot of don't bettors and I've never seen them toke. I'd just feel weird not toking, even though I'm playing the don't.

If you want to be "safe" about it, just toke directly, and not right after a win.

Obviously, the weird/awkward part is putting the dealers on the don't and then they get paid when most of the table loses. So yeah, it's a little awkward, because normally, they'll also say "thank you" when their bet wins, so they're raking in everybody else's chips and thanking you at the same time, lol.

In theory of course they would prefer a direct toke but in actuality they know they are better off if you bet for them. This is true for right/wrong side players.
    Why????
Think about it. If you were to give a toke to the dealers how often? Usually after coloring up or after a big score. People tend to make more bets for the dealer during normal play than give tokes directly to the dealer. A $5 player may make numerous $1 hardway bets for the dealers that would add up to more than what that same person would do as a single toke at the end or after coloring up.

Plus, if you put a $5 toke on a hard 6 and it hits, it seems to brighten their day.

I wonder if this is because so many craps players use sucker bets to tip (two way yo or hard ways seem the most common).

In 15+ years, every single BJ dealer I've asked wanted me to bet the toke. Of course there really aren't any sucker bets at BJ.

Royal match. 2.5x for suited first 2 cards. I've never seen anyone bet that for the dealers, but that bet is on the felt in Reno.

I rarely bet the hardways but when I do, I usually go 2 way. I usually parlay my buck and sometimes the dealers follow or sometimes they smile and say thank you while they put it on the rail. LOL.

Always just played hardways for the dealers - obviously they don't make as much as straight toking over time - but it feels good if they make $40 off of my $5 tip.

Sometimes helps if they 'forget' to take it down after a soft though.

Hardways are always okay. Just do it when the point is an odd number, so you can hit the hard way and still have time to win your don't.

So you are trying to make friends of the dealers while you are playing the dark side? Don't bother. Everyone hates you. The table, the dealers, the karma. They all are hating you.

    :evillaugh

I would say just throw your toke at the dealer. That way the dealers aren't conflicted about which toke to root for.

The dealers where I stay are very good. I'm tipping them for the level of service they provide, not a sad attempt at making friends. I'm not necessarily going to put their toke on the don't. Just curious to hear what other don't bettors do, since I've never seen them toke.

I know the other players will hate me, but I'll gladly root for their heaters. After 2 tries on a single shooter, I wait out his hand. They can go ahead and throw 10 more. :)

IAWTP. Another odd game that seems wrong to bet the tip is Mississippi Stud. You'd pretty much have to put it on the Ante, and then there is a strong possibility that you'll end up FOLDING this first bet. It seems really wrong, somehow, to fold a dealer tip. On that game, I just hand over $5 (or more) when I win something big.

Mathematically, all dealers should prefer you hand in every tip (they shouldn't want that money exposed to the house edge), but in reality, I'd say 95% of them prefer that you bet the tips, on 1:1 payoffs or long shots. They are also degenerate gamblers, it appears.

My last trip I played next to the biggest don't bettor that I've ever played with. He was laying yellow chips on 5 and 9 pretty regularly. He tipped a lot. Usually he did a two way hard 4 or hard 10 (or both) for $200 and $25 for the crew.

That's true if you're going to tip them the same amount regardless of whether you hand it to them or bet it for them. But I think they know there's a psychological component to it, where if you bet for them and lose you're more likely to try again. So essentially they become your partners in winning hands only. Maybe that's not the case for everyone, but I know I do that. If I bet for the dealer and it loses I'll try again right away. It also just looks better for them to appear to be on your side.

I hate to be superstitious, as it is unlucky to be superstitious, but if my hands with a dealer tip out keeps losing, I tend to stop trying. Start again after a new dealer comes in.
