    My Trip Report

I had bought the 24 hour Buffet special deal in Vegas. It was on my last day
of using the special deal of expiration date of 11:47a.m. I was in line and there were four persons in front of me. I asked all of them if I could get
in front of them because my dead-line time was going to expire in a few minutes.
I showed them all my receipt. They all said "NO". One lady said I should have planned better and gotten there earlier. I told them all that it wasn't my fault that the buffet cashiers had stopped checking in because they said we had to wait until the checked people line was smaller. We all had to wait until
    those people were seated.

I asked the cashier "what would happened if my time expired". She said, "I would lose out and not be able to get into the buffet".
She almost let me check-in when the people in line all YELLED NO! So she told me to go to the back of the line. I went to the back of the line and hoping I would be able to get in on time.

While I was waiting in line I noticed that one couple got checked-in and had finished paying and then decided to have a long conversation with the cashier.
I sensed they were taking their time so it would slow down the line and I would miss the dead-line. My distorted thinking?

I decided to ask a lady with four kids if I could get in front of her but she said she was in a hurry and needed to get checked-in. So I waited behind her.

I finally got checked in with just two minutes left on my time. The cashier had the nerve to ask me if I had waited at the end of the line. "DUH"....

I told her I was behind that lady with the kids who was talking with the other cashier. The lady asked her four kids who was planning to eat which was a stupid question. Then I heard her say that she didn't plan to eat so her kids
could eat. She only had three free passes to eat at the buffet.
I turned to look at her and I noticed she left with her kids because she wasn't willing to pay the extra money for all of them. "CRUEL SHOES".

PART 1 of my trip to Vegas. I was there from June 26th until June 29th.

I will write part 2 later. LucyR.

Awful lot happened between the time you were in line with a few minutes to go, getting sent to the back of the line, and when you "finally" got to the front with two minutes remaining... I don't really follow.

If it's that important to get another meal on the back end of a 24 hour pass then why cut it close to begin with? Plan ahead and get there early.

    Re: Buffet

I was there on time except that the cashier chose not to check us few people
in line. THAT is what held me up and took time. If the cashier had checked us
in I wouldn't have worried about it. There was only 5 persons in line and there
was space for us to wait after checking in with the cashier.

Looking back now..... I should have told the cashier that if I could just check in
and I would go back in line and wait at the end of the line while the other people
would get seated first before I was seated.

I was there early with plenty of time but the cashiers were taking their time.

    That was the problem. LucyR.

We don't know the whole story here, but if what you said was true, those people were ignorant and inconsiderate. Just like people in grocery lines who see someone come up with one item and they just ignore them and make them wait.

If it were me, I would have gotten there earlier so as not to have to beg people for cuts.

I also would have let you go in front of me is you asked.

So next time Lucy if you see a guy in a giant dumb and dumber sized foam cowboy hat who looks like he has been drinking since 6am, feel free to ask.

Eh, I don't know. One only has to look at the $20 threads to see how many people lie about it being their anniversary or some such just to get a bigger window in their room. It wouldn't be a stretch to imagine a similar thing to jump the queue at a buffett, and of course there is the added imposition of being asked to scry some receipt for an expiry time for a program you may not be familiar with.

When I'm by myself, though, I'm often so surprised that people would ask that I invariably acquiesce. I notice in this case that it seemed to be women giving you the hardest time, and if I think of some of the tart-tongued harpies I've been to Vegas with, I can easily imagine the "You shall not pass". Perhaps it is a woman thing?

What a ridiculous statement. While it would certainly be a nice gesture to let someone cut in line, by no means is it an obligation. The people that got their first have every right to enter the buffet before someone who arrived after them. While the people that didn't allow the OP to cut may not be as considerate as others, calling them "ignorant" is utterly ludicrous.

I know nothing about the buffet pass or the timing.

However, I was struck by the fact that a woman with four children left because she only had 3 passes?

Granted, I've never been there, but I just don't see Vegas as kid orientated.

Anyway, sorry you were met with such busy people and slow cashiers.

I was thinking the same thing. I bet out of all the poeple you asked and showed the reciept to have no idea what the 24 hour buffet pass is. They probably all thought it was some scam in order to cut the line.

I would of let you cut in front of me cause that's just who I am, but the fact is the people were there before you and they have every right to tell you no.

Agreed. See also: giving up your seat on a plane to a couple who can't bear to be apart for a few hours. :rolleyes2:

I have a hard time blaming others for my poor planing. But I suppose I just don't have that entitlement gene that seems to be so prevalent these days.

Another strange experience - Part 2 of my report

I am a handicapped senior and I was sitting at the handicapped area at Southwest airline waiting area to board the plane.with other special seniors. I only noticed seniors sitting in wheel chairs or just sitting in the handicapped area with seniors who can walk but very slowly and have limited walking.

I was first in line with my cane since I have a bad leg with arthritis. We are all given a blue cover to put our ticket in it. We are the first ones to get on the plane.
One of the senior man with his blue pass stood next to me and was standing ready to walk into the plane. All of a sudden a pretty young gal stood behind
me and told the old senior man he couldn't start his own line. She insisted that
he had to get back to the long line behind us.

I told her that he was handicapped and had been sitting next to me for hours
to board the plane. She said she had been waiting for three hours to get on the
plane too. I wondered why she was being so petty and demanding for the senior to move out of the line since she was third in line.

I decided to take his side and help him to stay near me. We both argued with her. Then all of a sudden we were able to get on the plane.
As the old man and myself were walking really slow I turned around and told the young woman to go ahead of me. She rushed on with two large pieces of
luggage with her. The old man and I started laughing and I said real loud.
"Look how fast she can walk and she is supposed to be handicapped". He also made some comments too about how fast she was walking. She chose to ignore
our comments. She sat in a front seat and the old senior chose to sit on the front row on the opposite of her.lol.

There was a "special needs" boy that needed extra care from one of the airline
steward. I told her he could sit next to me and I would make sure to take care
    of him.
We sat together and he was a good kid playing with a electronic lap game.
I ordered a cup of coke for him and a small bag of peanuts. He said he planned
to save the peanuts to give to his mother when he would arrive in THE Burbank
airport. It was a fast flight of 40 minutes and I was glad to get home.

That is very helpful for a future strategy and I bet it would have worked. Thanks for sharing that thinking with us.

At the Orleans the 24 hour buffet pass is just good for that casino, but it comes with a bracelet that you wear and show at the VIP line. That seems a much better policy to me than trying to figure when the time runs out. Too much like the old "Beat the Clock" shows from my childhood. If you are staying there the whole day, an added advantage is that you can easily pop in and out for just a bit of food and be able to graze rather than eat an entire meal.

Line passes are also something that can be given for gambling. The Golden Nugget live poker room gives a $10 food voucher for 4 hours of play, and the money is nice, but really nice is that you know you won't wait long because again you go in the VIP line to check in and be seated. Years ago the Mirage poker room issued Crave comps that came with a line pass. So sometimes, even if you have the buffet price covered, it might pay to ask where you are playing if they can give you a line pass. It might even be something you could get with minimum play since it does not cost the casino anything. I'd ask at table games.

Sorry about the D Baggery encountered Lucy, but I'm not surprised in Las Vegas/America circa 2013. Hope you had fun the rest of your trip.

I stayed at the Quad Hotel

I had never stayed at the Quad before but I wanted to have the experience of staying there. Plus, their resort fee was only $10. per night plus tax. I can be frugal at times so I only paid $154. total for three nights.

I had ordered a Deluxe room on-line and it looked exactly like the photo that I saw on my computer. The room was clean and spacious. It had a king bed and a nice new t.v. BUT..... one of the lamp lights didn't work and another lamp looked like it was ready to tip over from being so old. But.... the room was located on the 18th floor with a view of the strip which I really wanted.
The wash sink in the bathroom had a loose faucet but it worked okay. But...
when I was washing my face and had my eyes closed and when I finished rinsing my face and opened my eyes..... the sink was full of water and about ready to spill over. The sink drained real slow. It didn't get stopped up.
I had to flush the toilet several times to make sure I worked okay.

I did notice a coffee maker in the bathroom but I never used it. I am not really a coffee drinker unless I feel like drinking a cup once in a while.

When I went to bed I noticed the ceiling had the old "pop-corn" look. I compared my hotel room to a Motel 8 room or an old Best Western Hotel.

The best part about the Quad is that there is a very happy bar named the Catalyst Bar. It is filled with some great music and impersonators that sing
and also work at the gambling tables. It is the new area that was remodeled
and looks really nice. I could walk from that area to the Harrahs hotel and then take the local bus that is located in front of that hotel. It is still $8.00 for 24 hours for the bus. I truly enjoy taking the bus everywhere.

The elevators on Tower #2 still needs to be re-modeled because they looked old with scratched up walls. One day I was getting into the elevator when three guys were walking out and warned two ladies to watch out for the cockroaches.
I told the ladies that cockroaches are easy to get rid of but bed bugs are super hard to get rid of.LOL. I am aware that bed-bugs can last a whole year without biting a person. That is really strange.
MY HOTEL ROOM DIDN'T HAVE ANY KIND OF BUGS! I checked it out right away for signs of bed bugs. I didn't see any bugs or signs that they lived there. I did
leave the lights on most of the time and was careful not to leave any thing on the floor rug. I am bug phobic.lol.

One day a really nice looking couple were getting on the elevator because they didn't know the Quad was not up to their standards when they booked it on-line.
They chose to check out and go stay in a better hotel.

I did go eat at the HASH A GO GO restaurant for lunch one day. I had eaten there before and ate a nice Chicken salad sandwich. I do enjoy eating there
at odd hours when hardly anybody is there. I ate lunch at 4p.m. I do sometimes sleep late and eat breakfast at 12 noon.

Late one night I went to Denny's to drink a chocolate shake. It was really tasty and only cost $3.99. They cost more at the fancy hotels. I am a frugal person.
I had lots of fun talking with the other customers who were in a talking mood.
I went to bed at 2a.m. that night. It was a fun night for me.

The Quad had some great stores to shop at. I bought me a beautiful cap that
only cost me $6.00. The price on it said "$49.99. It is beautiful with lots of bling on it and it says Las Vegas with bling on it. It was on sale.

Frugal me... went shopping at Ross Dept. store and bought me some really nice summer shorts for $12. I know some of you gals don't like Ross but it is my favorite store.
I went shopping at the ABC STORE for a Las Vegas canvas tote bag. It is very pretty and lots of my things fit in it. I only paid $14.00. Worth every dollar.

I also had lots of fun being a Looky Loo at the Fashion Show Mall located on the strip near the Treasure Island Hotel. I didn't find anything I liked. But I did shop
at the "Forever 21 store and bought me something I needed.

Harrah's has a great afternoon Piano Bar and people were having lots of fun.
It is open from 2p.m. til 6p.m. on some days.

I went to visit the Flamingo Habitat in the evening and most of the birds were sleeping or trying to stay cool in the water since it was really hot in Vegas.

    LucyR.

The resort fee only gave me free wifi for the use of my personal computer in my room. Included free local phone calls. When I asked to get my airline boarding pass printed I was informed it would cost me $5.00. I rejected it.
I decided I could get it for free at Southwest Airline.

It was 118 degrees when I arrived in Vegas

It was so hot that I just wanted to stay two nights instead of three nights at the Quad Hotel. But I decided to stay since it was so cheap to stay there and my airline flight was paid with reward points.

I know how to be a desert rat since I do go to Vegas when it is super hot. I also go to Palm Springs when it is super hot. I just followed my own rules on how to
stay cool in Vegas. All the hotels and stores were super cold with their air conditioners blasting cold air.

The Vegas news was predicting even hotter days for the week-end. But I left
Vegas on a Friday morning. I do enjoy spending time at the airport. I went and bought me all the goodies I like to eat at the airport.

My health is going downhill now that I am getting older. My left leg is getting
worse with arthritis and I have to use a quad cane that was very useful for me
to use in walking around Vegas.
Some people don't pay attention and were bumping into my cane or stepping on my feet. I had to put on my sturdy shoes instead of wearing my flip-flop sandals to protect my toes. At my senior age I have to protect my feet since
I will be living to be 100 years old and I need to keep my feet healthy.
If I die younger it is okay with me but meanwhile I need to try to stay as healthy as I can.
I choose to write my trip reports as a solo single senior because some day some of you younger members of this website will reach my age and will know
what it is like to travel as a senior. I hope that some new technology will be
around to help you all to travel as seniors in a more comfortable manner.

I have noticed that some airlines have chosen to hire a private company to put us special needs travelers in wheel chairs or just escort us to get around the airport to our airport gate. I think that is a great service. LucyR.

Those people in the buffet lines were just dicks, I can't believe anyone is defending them. If its that important to you to get to the feeding troughs for your daily gorging before some elderly lady whose pass is about to expire don't be upset when karma bites you in the ass and no one ever shows you any civility or basic consideration.

I'm not saying they're "good guys". In fact I'm quite surprised that they wouldn't let her go in front of them. I certainly would have, and i don't think i know anyone who wouldn't.

However, expecting someone to give up his spot - because you couldn't do even a modicum of planning - is every bit as selfish and rude.

Unfortunately, at this day and age you can't always take people at face value. There are people who are always trying to game the system ( see rich people hiring handicapped guides to get to front of line). While I would likely let the person jump in front of me, it would be dependent on the person's actions. Is he/she rude etc.?
