I have the d booked from this coming friday to friday for a great price.

we (wife has passed :( ) have stayed on the strip and fremont st many times

and love downtown but I was considering the weekend at the d and 4 nights at bally`s for a change.

I will have a car so could just drive to the strip and if I have too many beverages just leave the car there and get it later or next day or leave it parked at the d and cab occasionally or bus it with the savings.

pool at the d is not so good but there are lots of pools on the strip where you can drop in for a visit even if you are not staying there.

just tempting to just stay at the d and not have to change rooms and pay over a hundred bucks more when the rooms at the d are brand new and nice.any opinions appreciated.

I love downtown, but about three days there is my max. I can only enjoy the good gambling so much, along with strolling up and down the FSE checking out the entertainment. The strip always has something new you can go see or check out; downtown has the neon boneyard and the Mob Museum.

While having a car is nice, there's just something about having a homebase on the strip as well. My next trip is three days downtown, followed by 4 at the Rio (with their shuttle to the strip).

It sounds like you want to just stay at The D and you'd be happy just staying there for the whole trip... so why not just stay at The D the whole trip then?

Wife and I do the split stay because we really prefer The Strip overall, but like spending some time Downtown and doing 1-2 nights there lets us get in a lot of lower end gambling, drinking, eating, etc... and its pretty easy to just casino hop from one place to another.

However, we couldn't just spend an entire trip Downtown: as said, we do like The Strip, the "resortiness" of it all, the big casinos, selection of foods, buffets, etc.

I also think splitting would be good for a change and got a great deal at bally`s for the last 4 nights.

Then split it, and enjoy the change of scenery. As much as we all pay attention to prices, offers, etc., my first task is to figure out what/where I want to go, THEN find the best prices to match that. Not the other way around.

Survivor, we can assume little will be going on at D's pool but that too is somewhat of a problem if you are interested in viewing wildlife or simply having the luxury of cocktail service. I think you should spend some time at the larger pool

I too have lost my wife, so I can see where you come from. I love downtown, but 7 days is just too much. I like to split between there and off strip like Orleans with a shuttle to the strip. A rental car frees you up to more choices and ability to visit places like the pin ball museum.
