A few people on the board mention tipping for drinks with $2 bills. Sounds like a neat idea and the CWs seem to like them. Where can I get these - within walking distance of downtown or TI? I live in New Zealand and it isn't an option at my local branch of kiwibank.
After reading other $2 bill posts several months ago, it sounded like a good idea and I had no difficulty getting them at my local bank. I would think going into any bank in Vegas might net similar results. I thought most cocktail waitresses would be happy to get a $2 and was surprised how so many reacted to the bill like a vampire confronted with a silver crucifix! Then I heard that some folks think $50's are bad luck too. I'm pretty much as non-superstitious as anyone can be in a casino and can't begin to understand this stuff, but the negative reactions to the $2's outweighed the positives and I gave up.
I take a hundred $2 bills every trip and EVERY girl I give them to loves them and most say they will save it. I do it to slow the tipping down because I tip every single time and either had 5's or heaven forbid 10's so I keep these on a clip with my room key specifically for the drinkies.
If the bank is out of $2 bills, you should get a roll of Golden Dollars instead. I take 1 or 2 rolls for tips every trip. The look on some peoples faces when you give them 'gold' for a tip is outstanding!
I took them once, and every CW I gave them too loved them. I got them at my local bank before traveling. As far as bad luck though, I was surprised that twice I was given a $50 bill in change from gift shops. My own fault I suppose for paying with $100 bill. Needless to say I stuck them in a change machine as fast as possible
Same here. I take a bunch. I only use them in my host hotel where I'll see the same faces because they most certainly remember you when you give it to them. Only positives, never ever got a negative reaction from using them. And since I'm usually with my wife I'm tipping for 2 drinks anyway, so a $2 spot is perfect. I ask my bank a week ahead and usually take 25 ($50) just for tipping.
The Wells Fargo ATM at the Rental Center was spitting out $50 bills a few weeks ago. I'm surprised that so many places do not want to take these.
I had the same result. They looked at me like i was insulting them somehow. I ended up handing the rest out to some homeless people. Suprisingly, they sort of looked at me funny too.
It certainly appears that we've gotten very different reactions from handing out $2 bills than others. I've passed out a few of the "golden" dollars before, which were well received. However, many CW's are too rushed to give their tokes even a casual examination, so I usually feel compelled to point out that it's a dollar and not merely a quarter or half dollar. Then again, who wants to get into any kind of discussion over $1? It's far better to occasionally give out a red chip!
One reason that $2 & $50 bills are shunned is that there isn't a slot in their cash drawers for them.
I've learned alot this thread. . 1)...I didn't know the superstitions w/ $$$. 2)...Turtleman's.....vampire /crucifix was funny 3)...Royal Flusher......ever the comic !
I like this a lot! People that "stand out" for good reasons tend to get better service. Their will be two of us handing out "gold"!
I love $2 Bills. I usually order a stack of 100 from my bank. Sometimes it takes a day or two to come in. Valet people seem to love them. I used to take a few rolls of $1 coins but they are heavy and I found myself having to let people know it was a Dollar and not a Quarter. $2 Bills are the way to go! I hate having change in my pocket. On another note: My Trip starts tomorrow. Have a few stops to make first but I'll be in Vegas July 2nd. It's been a long 150+ day wait.
I bring dollar coins and tip with those. I love the looks i sometimes get if they don't know what it is.
